Model: Evga RTX 2060 Super SC Black P/N: 08G-P4-3062-KR I've got a new 2060 super that tends to cycle fans up from 0 RPM to 2000+ RPM, seemingly at random. It's pretty well driving me nuts. I've tried to get the fans to run at a constant speed via Precision X1, but I can't get the settings to take from one boot-up to the next. Any help would be appreciated.

Randomly even while just sitting at the desktop with nothing going on? If yes, what temps are you seeing just sitting on the desktop with nothing going on?

My EVGA 2060 super black is doing the same thing when just sitting at desktop or web browsing. I have monitored the temps and nothing shows that the fans should even be on. I opened a case with support and though they acknowledged the issue and said try x1 for a work around no permanent fix has been released to my knowledge. I started a thread for mine a few days ago

Temps were around 32⁰C, give or take. HWMonitor reported fan at 0 RPM and then, randomly, it would shoot up to 2000+ RPM and then cycle down. This would happen throughout the day, just hanging out on the desktop or browsing. I have got X1 running the fans now at about 40% and that's keeping things consistently cool and I'm not hearing the random ramping up now. However, I am not interested in overclocking and do not like having X1 running in the background. It shouldn't have to be this way. Hmm, this seems to support the idea that there's a hardware problem within the card itself. I'd like to get it fixed.

You don't have to run precision x1 in the background if you set a static fan speed.

FYI - setting static fan speed in X1 does just that. It locks in that speed until you reboot, so fans don't cycle up in gaming situations. Curve is the way to and that means running X1 @ start-up.

Not a problem for me as I set my fans anywhere from 80 to 100% before gaming.

I have this exact model and have the same problem. Any plans for a BIOS update that fixes this issue?

You should be able to set a fan curve and then if you go into the Precision X1 settings there should be an option to use previous apply settings on startup. As for the issue I will see If i can get more info on this.

I have this card and it is having the same fan issue. I don't like it. So much so that I took the card out of my rig and put it back in it's box. This card has a fan issue. I'm waiting for my step-up to a RTX 2070 Super and hoping that it does not have this same fan issue. I'm not happy with my RTX 2060 Super SC Black. The fan issue just drove me nuts. I only used it for a few hours and then stuffed it back in it's box. I tried a custom fan curve but that didn't seem to help. The fans start screaming whenever they feel like it even without a load on the card.

Model: Evga RTX 2060 Super SC Ultra P/N: 08G-P4-3067-KR I just installed a 08G-P4-3067-KR and have also been plagued with this issue. At idle, the fans in X1 shows a jump from 0 rpm to ~500 then back down. During this jump in RPMs it sounds like a brief grind. This is very distracting and I will likely have to reinstall my old card. Does anyone know if the step-up program takes any longer than an RMA? I'm not confident enough in getting the same card. [edit] grammar, added model, p/n

This works BUT if you do some GPU heavy stuff. you better don't forget to enable Auto-Speed again. Still looking for a final solution

even at 30% the fans are basically silent ... the bigger issue with static settings is when load & heat does increase, your fan does not MSI afterburner if the other OC software that people use .. not sure about Linux support though

hi, yes i'm aware of the heat situation, at 15% fixed fan speed (~526rpm) my card idels at ~50°C on my 3x4k+1xFullHD setup, running Linx Mint There is no MSI Afterburner like software for Linux (well ok, just found one called: GWE i'll try to set min. fan speed and a custom profile with it later today) To be clear, i'm not complaining about the fan noise when its running faster than 100 rpm, just the startup sound I think you have seen "Fan Startup Noise" or "RTX Fan Clicking Sound" threads here tl;dr; if the fan speed switches form 0 to 300 to 0 to 190 every couple of seconds in idle mode, the noise of the starting fan drives me nuts. there are a lot of videos/posts in this forum about it like or and youtube or just google it ) I also know: It's NOT just EVGA, it'n NOT just RTX 2060 Super, there are many RTX cards with that kind of issue. But EVGA can fix it with a BIOS update And the senior software dev inside of me thinks: If starting up a fan makes more noise than running it, don't stop the fan! You can't notice them on 100-200 rpm... why not set the minimum rpm to 150 and call it a day?! [EDIT]: Tested GWE: GreenWithEnvy (GWE) found on gitlab It's possible to create a custom fan curve with GWE, to run at system startup you need to build it yourself from source GreenWithEnvy

I ended up returning my card after evga support said its normal for the fan to rev up and down when the card isn’t even being taxed. They suggested a permanent fan curve of 35% as a work around but I didn’t want to do that. Support never suggested step up as a possible solution for my issues even after months of back and forth. I would of welcomed that discussion but like I said nobody in support suggested it as a solution. I hope you have better luck with evga and finding a quiet video card than I did.

I'm just waiting for the 2070 Supers to come back in stock. I'm already in the Step-Up Program. I'm on step 2 and waiting for them to email me and tell me I'm at step 3. I'm sure I'll be much happier with the 2070. It's what I should have gone for in the first place. My mistake.
