    Sounds like an interesting opertunity

How do you like to pass the time when in the air ? (seems like a long trip)

Is it hard to get around ? public transit, company driver, Uber ?

Do you have a basic working knowledge of the language or can one get by with just English ?

It's about 14 to 15 hours flight time ....at least from MSP ...I'm going from Boston, to Minneapolis, to Tokyo....they have free movies, so I watched a few movies, and then slept on my first trip..probably do the same thing this time......It's not hard to get around, really...public transportation is ubiquitous...the problem is (and this is related to your language question) there's very little signage in English (tho some does exist)....Most people do not speak English..the kids do better because they're being taught in school (then they don't use it after, so it gets lost)....but adults ? Nope, not really...it's not really an issue...pictures of food you point at..etc...but back to the public transportation..You can use google maps and it does a good job for the most part..however, I found that it would say "Take the Keiyo line to the Hatchōbori Station, walk 900 meters to the Hibiya line then take the Hibiya line to Akihabara station, then walk 500 meters"...without saying which direction....so it's confusing at times, but you can get around pretty easily...

Google translates works pretty well...tho it's literal translation and it confuses the Japanese you use it with too...

Don't be afraid to go if you have a chance..just allow extra time and know you may get a bit frustrated and tired finding your way around

That would be a great experience I would think. Enjoy your time there. Some people will never get a chance like that.

Roppongi is fun and has some great clubs. It's expensive though. Just stay away from the Jamaicans and Nigerians. Went to some rave 3 stories underground way back when there and it was amazeballs.

I was in Okinawa for a couple years back around 2000.  Was ok, but the island seems to shrink daily.  I was standing on one toe to keep my foot from getting wet the day I flew out... or at least it seemed that way.

Okinawa is silly. The roads are like 99% turns and it takes forever to get anywhere. Then you have most things looking like cartoons from homes to road signs. I had a duty station there for almost 1 year and everything was "fun size" from the cars to the food. They had awesome vending machines though. One of my favorite drinks had a chicken on it that was always dressed as something different.

LOL... yep, 60 miles long and 10 miles wide, but if you drive the coast road all the way around, it's a long long long way.
