I wish that I could get my replacement KINGPIN card already (it has been two weeks since it was received). It is a shame that it will be my fourth one, but I do really like the performance that it offers.

Seems like there may be some sort of root cause not being addressed ?

Having done 3 RMA of Kingpins is got to be more than "bad luck"

    System spec ?
    Temps ?
Power: using a UPS or power strip ?

Which kingpin card are you talking about? My 1080 ti kingpin is still running strong on just air.

How on earth you killed 4 1080Ti K|NGP|Ns? Oo

Are you running 24/7 with a too high voltage? That is a big no-no ... for benchmarks you can crank up the voltage above 1093mV but for 24/7 usage I strongly advise against it...

Is your PSU a new one or older one?

4th would make me think I had an issue somewhere else as well..
Probably would think that on the 3rd....but maybe we few, we proud, we band of testers, think differently

Your second 1080ti kingpin, because you did rma your first. Im guessing that wasnt because its a fun experience. I would guess it was because the first card failed.

Wow, thanks guys for all of the suggestions and for splitting the post.

    To answer Cool GTX:
    My system spec includes: i7 6800k, 32gb g.skill trident Z, EVGA 850W G3 Power supply, EVGA DG-77, EVGA 1080ti kingpin(currently using EVGA 980ti hybrid) and MSI x99a mpower
Temps: The CPU is normal as I have it water cooled, but my most recent 1080ti got to around 85 degrees C most of the time with the fans set to max with the side panel off still.
Power: No UPS just straight into a wall socket.

My first one didnt get 2025mhz and would experience bad artifacting. (Using a EVGA 750W GQ)
The second one burned out due to a power supply issue. I tested this on my other 980ti and that burned out too. (I spoke to an EVGA rep and this is what they told me to do) which resulted in 3 dead components. I got a new Power supply afterwards just to be sure too- 850W G3
And the third one, which EVGA currently have, always ran hotter than the other two had done. I specifically didnt overclock this card due to my two previous bad experiences. I followed the troubleshooting guide and the card only worked in debug mode through the NVIDIA control panel, otherwise, it would just crash after 5 minutes of "heavy" use i.e gaming.

    To answer the_Scarlet_one:
All three were air cooled still, I missed out on buying the waterblock for this which was really annoying.

    To answer Sajin:
It is the 1080ti KINGPIN, the same as you. I wish mine had run strong like yours.

    To answer Y3didya:
I never touched the voltage except on the first card where it went wrong.
I had a 750GQ since july 2015, then it failed with my second card so I brought a new one (850w G3)

To answer transdogmifier and the common question being asked:
I also have suspected that something else could be affecting this but I am unsure where to start looking, I am open to everyone's suggestions.

When you get the RMA KPE, Bykski has a full cover block for it. A member in the forum here has it, worth a shot maybe? ;)

Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely check this out once I get the replacement although I am unsure when that will be. Looking at the other member's thread about his Bykski block and it looks good, hopefully, they will reply to your question about its performance.

That is awesome that you answered all of the questions! Most people glaze over that part, so thank you.

So far, it honestly sounds like bad luck in multiple ways. Hopefully the newest will solve the issues.

You're right I'm on my second one because my first started to artifact. My first one only lasted 4 months. I've been using this second one for 4 months and three weeks without any issues.

Note: My replacement card was also a brand new in retail box replacement.

With the K|ngp|n cards being a very limited run, I wonder how many are out there to replace the ones that die...

I wonder the very same and wonder what happens if they run out and other KPEs die and cannot be replaced... also would wonder what happens when e.g. new generation comes out and your KPE dies :/

I can't speak for EVGA but I'll assume the RMA replacement stock for Kingpin matches the RMA stock of existing SKUs.

Well a few months ago i had to RMA my 980ti Hyrbid due to the testing suggested from EVGA and I somehow got a 980ti Hybrid back so i expect that they will have a few but then maybe they will just replace it with a new generation card.

At least we can kind of figure that two died because of the PSU issue which makes me feel a lot better as to why so many would be needed. Glad the PSU issue was found and fixed.

My experience with the 1080ti Kingpin HC is RMAing it out of the box due to a bad paste job.  Temps would jump 20c opening Chrome .  EVGA reset the card and sent it back to me.  Now the temps are good but one/some of the LEDs are bad, which wasn't the case out of the box, so a connector was likely tweaked during the fix.  Can't find the energy to RMA again for bad LEDs...

That is rather unfortunate :/ I had no such issues with my KPE HC, works like a charm :)
