Hi guys , Ok so my situation is I recently started to overclock my CPU and then went to do my Graphics card with precision x oc . Upon launching and running a stress test with 3d mark ( before any overclocking even done ) it showed my card was already using 100% and more of power to the card reaching power limit already ? I did a little overclock and it didn't work . Upon restarting my system I went into a game and after the game loads a buzz sound starts coming from my PSU (just minor but certainly wasn't there before ) .. I removed the PSU away from my pc but left it connected to just test and make sure the sound certainly was from the PSU and it was ... is this the PSU dying and the reason Precision x is showing power limit reached even before I touch anything in the software to overclock ? Does it seem I need a new PSU ?

I will be getting a new gtx 1080 soon to sli the cards so a new PSU will be needed yes ? 1000 watts do it ? Thank you

Sounds like psu coil whine, not an issue imo. Yes, the card can read above 100% without any overclocking done. 1000w is more than enough for 1080 ti sli.

If the card reads over 100% then does this mean I cannot overclock the card ? Or do I work finding a stable overclock ?

You can still overclock the card, you'll just need to increase the power target.

Won't let me share the video lol Um . Just one question do you know what setting that would be in Precision X Oc to increase power target ?

Put spaces in your link to make it show up on the forums. The setting you want to adjust is called "power target".

http ://tinypic.com/r/10wn039/9 A question also . Coil whine doesn't mean the PSU is dying and it cannot damage any hardware ?

Yep, that is coil whine. Coil whine is harmless. It's just annoying.

The whine is probably something that will not go away but the whine is normally just a coil vibration and not something to worry about. If it's annoying though a new PSU is a good idea.

That's awesome to hear guys thanks so much for that ... if however I am planning on a second gtx 1080 to sli my pc I would certainly need a better PSU correct ? Especially if I am going to be overclocking CPU and the 2 cards ?

Sajin it's interesting because if I set power target to even maximum in Precision 120-130% . As maxed as I can slide the bar I'm still getting the same results in my bench tests . It's still saying I'm using over 100% reaching 119% and higher in some cases ? I don't understand why it's not changing ?

Sounds normal to me. Some benchmark scenes use a lot of power.

So even when I haven't even overclocked anything . Just turned the power target to maximum and do a 3D bench test it still shows the power up over 100% no it's normal ?I'm sorry I'm a bit noob to that lol ?

Yes, it's normal for some benchmark scenes. Games will use lower power % than benchmarks.

Here is battlefield 1 and Prey screenshots I took . Also precision setting . No gpu clock overclocked yet . This power is normal ? Outlast 2 had power at about 90-98%

I think I found out why lol. The new cards today come with a automatic clock boost function that overclocks the card automatically . Even hence why my power is maxed but also I noticed the in game gpu clock MHz is way above the specs from the core and boost clock specs on the site. I was getting 2000 MHz in battlefield 1 with a small amount of gpu clock added and mem clock added ... manufacturer site for my card indicates a 1480MHz base clock with a 1582MHz boost clock... this indicates such a card feature does exist correct ?without adding any gpu clock or memory clock in Precision it was still about 1848 MHz . That was before any overclock

Looks like you have a good card. Other than the annoying noise, I would be happy.

Yep, the boost feature is gpu boost 3.0. Everything looks normal.
