Okay first the specs of my computer:
600W Fortron power supply
Gigabyte z170 gaming 3 board
2x8 kingston ddr4 2400 ram
6700k
GTX 1080SC
Here's the issue:last night I was in the middle of a windows 10 build update when suddenly my PC restarted and all my fans went full blast.I thought there was a momentary power outage or something so I restarted the computer and tried again only to get the same result.I noticed that every single time it rebooted the moment windows installed the GPU driver and my resolution turned back to native (2560x1440).So I thought well because it's an insider update it must be a faulty driver.I formated my entire PC and proceeded to install a stable windows 10 build when BOOM! same thing happened at the exact same moment.Okay...I thought to myself..there's gotta be some sort of hardware issue and maybe it just showed it's ugly face during update. So just like any of you would do,I looked over all my parts to think what could give? And ofcourse the immediate answer was the cheapo power supply.I must say I have a warranty on all of my parts but the problem is that it's Saturday and the shop I bought them from is not working. So I thought to myself that even if it were working I wouldn't want the cheap power supply replaced with another one and might as well use the moment to buy a better one.I finally found an open place and went with my computer to test a silver 750W brand new unit.We plugged everything in and BAM! same thing happened again.I am pretty infuriated at this point because I am in desperate need of my PC as it is my only one and it's my source of income and just the thought of waiting until monday for the shop to open and then god knows how long more to get it fixed made me cringe. So I went back home and I tried unplugging the GPU and plugged my monitor into the IGPU of my processor. And here I am now.My PC is working but I am still baffled as to why my gpu would act this way.I've dealt with broken cards before and I've only encountered 2 scenarious: 1 there is artefacts on screen and 2 the pc doesn't boot at all.So what do you guys think? What could be wrong..any ideas? It would be absolutely amazing if there is a problem I am missing cuz I am just miserable knowing that I wouldn't be able to use my computer properly in the next 5-6 days.

Well you're up and running now, right?

Disconnect from the internet>run DDU in safe mosde>shut down PC>install GPU>Switch video cable to GPU>Boot>Install latest Drivers from a USB while still disconnected from the internet>Test

Maybe unrelated: Do you know what driver Windows was trying to install for you?

Try the GPU in a friend or family member's PC. If it works then it is likely your power supply, or possibly even a grounding issue (which can be checked by removing all components and setting them up on a non-conductive surface, like cardboard).

I can't see which driver because it does it in the background it was a full build update, not a small update because I wanted to test an insider build but after that it started doing it even with the stable builds. The moment the PC boots for the first time it takes like 5 min for windows to find some sort of driver and when my resolution fixes itself the issues start. As for the PSU comment as I said I tried a new one but it didn't work.I will maybe test it in someone else's PC but most my friends don't have good PC's.

If you tested another PS it's obv not the issue.

Insider is Beta testing. I would stay away from it if it's your only form of entertainment or it's your only PC you rely on because you are a essentially a bug tester working for MS for free.

Let us know how how it works out.

OP. That is one heck of a block wall of type. Hard to read on a small format device, paragraphs...

I want to be clear here, you install windows and it installs drivers, the problem is, it reverts to back to native (2560x1440) resolution?
Windows loads and you can see what is on the screen with the new card, or is it just blank? What monitor and what cable type connection?
If you can see and use the new card, download the driver directly from Nvidia and install it.  373.06 are good drivers

EDIT install the Nvidia driver before doing a windows update. Then update and see.
Also you may want to check and see what driver windows installs after the update if that works for you.

Sorry about the lack of paragraphing. You probably deal with a lot of frustrated people in this forum and I am indeed one of them.
I have a 1440p 165hz monitor connected via DisplayPort.
Windows boots up fine the first time and works in low res right until it installs some sort of GPU driver and the resolution fixes itself to native.
When that happens the computer keeps working for another couple of seconds, then the screen goes black and all the fans start blasting full speed.
After that I reboot and the PC starts just fine right until the moment I need to
log-on and by the time I type my password it repeats the process described above.
I am following timmyboy's advice as we speak.I uninstalled the driver windows installed with DDU and now I am waiting for the new one to download
from NVIDIA.After that happens I will put the card back in and reboot with no internet connection. If the driver installs and the issue doesn't happen
I could only attribute that to bad Microsoft driver. But if that was indeed the case google would be overflowing with threads with people having
the same issue,wouldn't it?

It's possible that the psu is still the issue. 1 loose connection to the video card produces the black screen/100% fan issue or the psu was just bad. If the driver isn't the issue, then it could possibly be the motherboard. Ideally, you should do as Sajin said and test if the card works in another pc.

Okay. This time I videotaped it so you guys can see for yourself.Clean driver installation and in the moment the resolution changes to native the fans go supersonic and the monitor goes black.
Note:I used my other monitor with the HDMI output this time so that I can see if the display port was the problem

It was indeed the GPU.Got it in the shop and they tested it on their testbench where it did the exact same thing. They've RMA-ed it and said it would be 2-3 weeks for it to get replaced.I bought a 1050ti just so I can use my PC for the time being. The moment I get the new card I will purchase a new Power Supply as I am extremely concerned with the quality of mine. Thanks for all the responses.

Do you guys happen to know if they'll switch it with the same card or if they'll give me one with the ICX system?

You'll most likely be getting the same card back.

One last thing I am worried about
If they're gonna give me the same card then there's a chance the same thing will happen again. Is my warranty extended or does it continue from where it was?

Continue from where it was.
