Does anyone here not move there user folders off there ssd? Was looking at doing a 1TB ssd.

i did at first but moved them back to my C drive, i do store all down loads on my 3TB seagate drive though, they by far take the most space aside from my steam folder which is on a 1TB SSD just for that and my Origin Games go on a Another separate HDD (soon to be a SSD also.)

One day when I have money all my HDDs will be upgarde to SSDs and I'll move my folders there and store a backup in the cloud or buy myself a NAS.

why not build a NAS, Nas4FREE is a awesome OS and lt has great features, i have been using it since clarkconnect went comercial only and free nas went dead, i was using a old amd mitx board but have since acquired a dell power edge server with 12TB of storage and a 8core xeon lol, so it will run on some old gear pretty well as well as on new. if you look into it they have a live version that runs off a usb stick so you can try it and if go with it do the embedded install on a small SSD (i picked up a 60GB one for $30) , its way easier to do updates and upgrades on. mine has been running for 8 months straight with out a hickup, power setting make it pretty energy efficient

I do have a hard drive with a lot of my big data files on it, another one has games, another has all my photo editing and video editing stuff, and then my main drive is just for all the software, etc. All are SSD except the data drive.

Wouldn't we all love to do that, but Ive got 1x2TB 1x1.5TB 1x1TB 2x500gb and all are at 85% capicity or more lol

I used to do this in the past, but with the ssds becoming more affordable i have been leaving them on the primary ssd.

For what it's worth. Currently I am running 2x256 SSD's in RAID0 as my OS drive. A couple of months ago I discovered that thanks to the user folders (mainly Documents) that my drives were totally full. I ended up moving the folder locations to another drive to free up room. When I finally get around to finishing my "new" build, it will be getting a 1TB SSD and I won't relocate the user folders, I will leave them alone. rjohnson11

I see no reason to store music or other files like that on my SSD. Which ever you do decide to store it on, be sure to make a backup on an external storage device. That way if you ever screw up and format the wrong drive, or the internal HDD or SSD dies on you, you won't lose all the files.

the very reason i have a server, i run allway sync once a week to a raid 1 in my server, out of three copies i feel pretty safe lol

I do this with most of my systems. Any videos or pictures go on the HDD, leaving the 1TB SSD for all my games.

I do not keep "storage" files on my faster drives unless Im an regularly accessing them. When I do a clean install of windows I update the location of the default file locations to an HDD.

The my documents I move to a HDD but I do have a photo and video file on the SSD. When I am opening up photoshop and working with a photo I normally will have it on the SSD but then move it back after I am done with the edits.

I run my old & trusty HP Micro Server n54l as NAS equiped with 2 x 4TB 5400 rpm in Raid 1 for multimedia and documents, 1 x 3TB 7200rpm and a 32GB SSD for the OS and works like a charm (and very cheap to build). You don't need the preasembled and overpriced ones. Is more cheap (and fun!  ) to build one yourself.

yep, i have maybe $400 in mine total, with 12 TB of usable storage ( all in a raid 5 ) with two gb nics the speed is amazing, looking at some 10gb stuff now to really speed things up  the last one i had before this one i used a zotac amd mitx board i got for $25 and a $20 AMD dual core, worked great for a few years until i got this dell poweredge server.
