Hi all. From the research I have done I have found this isn't a new problem. My issue is as the title suggests. My PC that is running i7 6850k at 4.2 GHz, Asus x99 A-II, GTX 1080, and 32 gigs of Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz fails to boot whenever I put it into XMP mode or manually set the DRAM to 3000MHz. I tried updating the BIOS and no change. Any advice would be much appreciated. If you need anymore information let me know!

Note on page 18 and 19 of your manual.  Item #10 is an Easy XMP switch.  Change the position from where it is...then reset to the other position.  Reboot...enter bios and set XMP.  See if that helps.  I remember on my X99-A, that I had the same problem and couldn't overclock my CPU without changing the switch.

I gave it a shot and no dice. I tried both on and off. It it was in XMP mode it won't start up. With some further testing I got the ram to go as high as 2400MHz but as soon as I put it to 2600MHz it wouldn't start. Good news is my 6850k is running at 4.4GHz stable at 1.35 volts. Gonna work on bringing that number down if I can of course.

Your probably gonna have to run it a little higher in ram voltage with 4 8gb sticks, plus they are lpx's your trying to run at 3000. Your gonna have to hand tweak them to get them stable with those parameters....and make sure you set the command rate at 2 or they def won't boot.

Sometimes, the more overclocked the CPU, the more finicky the memory controller in the CPU gets.  Try down clocking the CPU to 4.0 and try again...or even to default and raise overclock 100 Mhz (.1) at a time to see if that helps...then you might find the top overclock for the CPU with memory running properly...

I don't have the answer, but you might also poke around and ask about it over at the ROG Forums in the Overclocking & Tweaking or the X99 Motherboard sections if you haven't already..At the top of the forum, under Articles, there's some Guides with good info too..There is a post here about raising VCCSA and VCCIO voltages to get XMP working, but that's for a Z270 mobo and those voltages might not be safe for your X99 or if that would even work..If you monkey around with the voltages you'll need to put the RAM frequency to where it POSTs so the voltage change becomes effective first and then try changing the RAM frequency after POST..That's all I can tell you..Good luck.

Your cpu imc may not be able to handle anything over 2400. The 6850k is only guaranteed to run at 2133/2400 MHz. Anything over 2400 MHz is considered overclocking.

Also make sure that when you set the memory to XMP, that the BCLK changes to 125.  Then you can set your CPU multiplier to that.  Example...to set CPU to 4.0 GHZ, you simply set the multiplier to 32.  32 x 125=4.0 GHZ.   Memory voltage should also be 1.35
