I would lock up continually when using windows 10 professional x64 and EVGA 970TI. The problem was intermittent and I tried clean driver uninstall and re-install. Reverting to windows 7 x64 was my fix, my system ran perfect and continued to run perfect with the addition of the 1080-SC. I really want to use windows 10 to fully support my MS XBOX elite controller and games to be released. Can I get windows 10 to run stable or should I continue using win7? Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like you haven't tested the 1080 on windows 10 yet.

The GTX 970, 980 Ti, and 1080 are all fully supported in Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 by Nvidia and Microsoft.
Windows 10 instability is more than likely caused by a bad/not quite supported driver likely tied to the motherboard.
And/or, you did an upgrade from Win7 to Win10 which has been known to cause serious issues. A clean install from scratch should remedy that ptoblem.

+1 Clean install even if upgrading to Win 10\ EVGA 1080 FE = works fine in Win 7 Pro 64 & Win 10 Pro 64 Windows updates is sometime an issue --- I always install Nvidia driver myself especially if Windows update changed it and I use DDU I do Not load Nvidia Experience, Sound or 3D --- just GPU driver and PhysX
