Welcome to the world of open carry, that most of us enjoyed already.

I find it interesting that because Texas finally decides to get with it, it's a news making event.

It's too bad that they're still very restrictive as far as where you can carry, though. But hey, this is a step in the right direction for true firearm freedom, so it is cause for celebration.

    Congrats Texas!

In NC I still have to get "permission" from the sheriff for handguns, but I'm glad we don't have an "open carry" law.  We're free to do so.

I wonder how long it will take before we see a video of police claiming right to identify, when the person is only open carrying a long rifle.

Fortunately, the Supreme Court is on our side and has ruled on this already.

In Texas you can open carry a long rifle without needing to get "permission".

    You're almost there Texas, almost!

Requiring conceal carry license to open carry is still LOL.

I didn't see anyone openly carrying today while out and about. I don't know if I'll ever openly carry, but it felt good to not worry about printing or accidentally revealing my weapon today.

I live in NH which is a "must issue" state.  I recently got my permit to carry concealed in 3 days.

My Business is in VT, the land of Bernie Sanders, and there I don't even need a permit to carry concealed.  Go figure.

In Texas you don't need a permit to open carry a rifle. The CCW was for pistols only, now it will be come a CHL that allows you to conceal or open carry a pistol. The firearm must be in a shoulder or belt holster when open carrying.

I wonder if anyone will challenge it in court when stopped by police for to make sure you have a CHL when open carrying a pistol. Police will us that to identify people, they will use it to harass people that open carry both a pistols and a rifle. District attorney's in Texas have said they will go after anyone who refuses to show CHL upon request when open carrying a pistol.

In Oklahoma we have to tell law enforcement when stopped or being questioned that we have a CHL (if were carrying), if they ask to see it we must present it with our drivers license or state id. If we refuse we can be fined.

Yeah you have to have a permit for open carry of handguns... That's what I was getting at... That's getting a permission slip... In NC if we are carrying we only have to inform that we have a CHP and have to give it to them, we do not have to disclose where the handgun is located unless asked. They usually don't even ask. When open carrying a handgun, they cannot stop you.

Frankly, I look at open carry to be less bothersome than concealed carry. It's a visible deterrent.

In Los Angeles, California Open Carry is legal, However the restrictions as to distances from schools, government buildings, etc. make it impossible to do.

There's schools and police stations every other block... for real.

I agree with visual deterrents, vs something like concealed carry.  But, the current feel for a majority of Americans these days, their emotional state, being too defensive, and desensitized but at the same time overly sensitive.

Open carry and even concealed carry, I see too many freaking out over nothing, and far too trigger happy. Being to frank with some dummy would get you into a fire fight vs just breaking each others noses........

So this is my very first No Open Carry sign I seen this year. This is at my local mall and I am surprised that they have it out of all places I been to so far in my area. Especially since we are a military city. So my mall says we can't open carry huh. Well there is no 30.06 sign displayed saying I cant conceal carry.

This will be a bit of a strange first post here.  :)

When carrying any weapon you are required to avoid provocation and retreat if provocation occurs.  It's taken quite seriously; and those of us who carry, much like those of us who train in martial arts, tend to avoid as much conflict as possible.  You become much more aware of yourself in either event, and feel quite compelled to avoid potentially volatile situations.

I personally can't be bothered to carry in everyday life.  It's generally uncomfortable, and I don't like to dress around it, and constantly remove the firearm before entering any establishment that serves alcohol.  It's just too much of a pain.

Here in NC, it's nice to have the ability to buy something with the background check alone though, rather than having to go to the Sheriff's office every time you want to make a purchase.  That's really why I got the permit, in the end.  It's the same reason for many in NC.  It's a great way to waste more money when you see something that's hard to find in a shop; like happening upon some difficult to locate computer part that just arrived in stock.  LOL

Don't take this post the wrong way, though.  I don't mean to debate or argue.  I just thought I'd point a few things out that are not often mentioned.

Yeah, in Kansas they passed open carry last year. I have not really seen people utilizing it. But we have it...

If it's not public property they can always deny guns on property. You can always get away with it until you get caught and banned from the property... A lot of malls in my area employ off-duty police that usually stroll around the mall undercover. I remember working security at a mall... Once a month they would have about 10 police officers undercover rolling around the stores to catch people doing all kinds of stupid stuff. Usually had 2-3 arrests every time they did that.

The owner of a private property is entitled to restrict the carry of nearly anything.

That's widely been practiced for millennia, if only as a matter of respect on the part of the visitor at times.  It doesn't always make sense, but it doesn't need to, in the end.

In general you are correct. And this also applies in my state unless there is rental involved. According to the law in my state any person or business that is renting space in an apartment complex or mall area can not be discriminated against. Even if the land lords hate guns they can not infringe on their tenants rights.
