I bet I went through more pain than you have trying to fix my crashes with Fallout 4.
I have no doubt that you did. My goal was to stay away from that which causes this other than the game itself and to be honest here so far very few problems in that area. Whew.

Dukman Okay had to skip past a bunch of posts because you guys are farther into the story than I am, despite the length of time I've been playing this. One thing I will hand to Bethesda, they can make it difficult to stay on task. Im constantly saying that I intend to pursue the story line, only to get side tracked by somehing else entirely. This time it's more settlement building. Or to be more specific it's building my workshop/storage building in Sanctuary. As for Dogmeat, he has his own personality. Just watch him when your kicking around a bit, that's when it'll show up. And despite his obvious limitations in combat, it is kind of nice to not have someone chattering on and on and on about the same old things over and over. @Whiskers, Stalin and Zuhl If you are curious about a mod or mods, let me know which one(s). I'm currently running a total of 90 mods. So chances are Im probably already using it and can tell you about stability. Many of the mods Im running aren't affected by the updates and patches while others are. Yes, if you get one of those mods it will require you to update the mod itself after the game is changed, but if you use a mod manager, it's not that big of a deal. And it's only really the big mods that need updating. Alot of your others are simply "set it and forget it" as they tend to affect things that patches don't need to fix. I personally don't hesitate much when it comes to running mods in a game and I accept the risks and frustrations of doing so. Personally, I think it takes mods to fix all the stupid crap that Bethesda did or didn't do to the game.
Bethesda did a good job here and kept it very interesting. It's to the point I have to ask myself if I have a son floating around somewhere. LOL I am spending a lot of time building now that we can use cement to do so. Been buying like crazy and then going out to replenish the caps. Cait sure whines about it too. Then she appreciates me showing her a good time by letting her get wild in the killing department. Women. Do you have a mod that raises the settlement building cap? I have read (Bethesda) that this is touchy as it screws thing up. Also, is there a mod that increases the settlements in the game?

stalinx20 I'm having this weird problem with Fallout 4. All the music is cutting of about 5-10 seconds, then the announcer comes on. It doesn't matter if its the minutemen radio, or Diamond City radio, they both do it. I have tried restarting the computer, but it still does it. I would hate to have to uninstall and reinstall to fix this issue. Maybe I need to check and validate the files on steam, who knows...
I'll give this a try and see if it happens with me. I didn't see anything different before but it may have changed.

This is what I noticed once I got the radio up and running. I'll verify it though.

I am using two. Build High - Expanded Settlements increases the overall size of several (16) settlements. Higher Settlement Budget: This one increases the cap, but requires you to use the console to some extent. So, I haven't effectively used this mod yet as I haven't pushed the cap yet. Another one to look at is Settlements Expanded. This also increases the settlement budget/cap.

I listened to the Freedom radio and the Diamond City radio and both work normal. The song ends normally and either the announcer comes in or another song is played.

I scanned those recommendations and the way I see it, they aren't quite ready for prime time. At least for me that is. I am looking for height but more so for expansion. And definitely the raising of the cap so as to be able to add more goodies. Lots of goodies!!!! LOL

Those are older mods, so technically, they're past prime time. Build High expands the Sanctuary area up to Vault 111 to across the river to just up to the statue. Height wise, well it will allow you to build structures as high as you want. Higher Settlement Budget and Settlements Expanded both increase your cap to allow you to far exceed what Bethesda capped it at. So either mod would allow you to add goodies to your hearts content. If you're looking for a single mod that does both, I haven't seen it yet. But I was looking at the forums for SB and it sounds like the latest patches and add on's have rendered the mod useless. If I remember, I'll look into that later and see if it can still be activated. But with the beta release and imminent release of the GECK, there should be a number of mods coming out that are able to dive alot deeper and cleaner into the guts of the game.

Thinking about the height that one can go with these mods, I wonder if anyone has noticed that there is a range limit that the defensive weapons can go. I've noticed this when I was building high (no mod) and watched as the lower elevation weapons engaged but the higher elevation weapons would not. And I am talking about a massive invasion where all guns should have been blazing. The GECK should allow for better mods.

I spent almost 3 hours downloading and reinstalling my game and in the end it didn't change a thing. I was trying to get rid of a stuck quest where Breakheart Banks says 'cleared' on the map but the quest to clear it won't complete so I can't turn it in for my XP and get another mission.

I'm not saying that redoing the operating system is a good thing. It's not. I look at it as rebuilding your transmission for your car. Once it's done and completed, it runs a little better than before. That's all. Maybe it's what your PC needs, I don't know. But I wouldn't do it to have a mission be completed, that's for sure.

My personal point of view is that there is no reason to ever have to totally reinstall your OS. It is meant to be installed 'one and done' and last for the life of the PC. Of course if you're one of those people that insist on using automated maintenance software you're bound to damage the OS beyond repair. Unless you know how to manually edit your Registry you shouldn't trust someone elses software make these decision for you. Just saying.

You should have said when you're using the "free" automated maintenance software, you're bound to mess up your PC. That goes for free virus protection too.

I had the pleasure of repairing a laptop that had three different speed up my PC type utilities on it at the same time and CCleaner with every single box checked. It was a total wreck. It was Windows 10 so I just did a total refresh and kept no software. It had a RAMdisk built in from the factory. It was fast enough without that rubbish software. It had a ton of viruses including something called a Delta Search redirect that was a PITA to get rid of. I spent a while fixing that. Can you say 'cha-ching'? I charged plenty but the owner was happy. Didn't listen to me though and downloaded the same junkware and a week later they came back again. Cha-ching. I keep telling them to leave it alone but do they listen? Nope! You want to know how they speed up your PC? Change all of the power settings and modify the Registry so it never shuts off and only goes into Sleep mode. You hit the Power button and it's right at Desktop! Wow, this is really fast now! The problem is that since it never reboots or shuts down, the updates never get installed. Hmmm?

I keep getting popups from AVG saying they'll tune up my PC for free the first time. I want to know what settings they're changing and what they're doing before I'll let them touch my OS. There are no options to see their changes or any way to select what you want them to change and what you don't. They'd probably defrag my SSD RAID-0 array if I wasn't paying attention.

They don't really change any settings, only if you say so, then it will. What it does it is it monitors what you do within windows, down to the core, (with very minimal power or resources being utilized) and then it comes back and recommends things you can deactivate based on what you do on your PC. It also clears your registry, temp internet files, gets rid of the garbage, the standard cleaning that most programs do already. Uninstalls programs, suggests programs you can delete based on the last time you used it. optimizes your hard drives, clears the junk, fixes errors and broken shortcuts. It does a lot more. It's very innovative, and very thorough. It really is an awesome program to have. But i'm so disappointed that they made it a monthly subscription. I'm just appalled.

Yeah, after some recent changes with how AVG sends it's info and with it's constant barrages to upgrade, I ditched them on all builds I am doing and moved to Avira. CCleaner is great though as long as you know what you are doing. We had someone use it on a work computer that junked some important registry entries as well as some other small things that were checked and thought of as junk. Thankfully, all of our systems were imaged and it wasn't even worth trying to fix what this guy did. Anyway, I hope next time around, they do a totally different Fallout game. I love the idea of waking up or having to go into a Fallout shelter with something happening. I love the combat system, crafting and weapons/armor. What I wish they would do different is another take on the characters. The companions were a great add-on but some of the characters seem tired to me. Deathclaws, mirelurks, radscorpions, eyebots and the raider-types as well as the Revolutionary war type stuff just feel over used. The synths were a great addition and I understand there can only be some many variants after a fallout. Sometimes I also wish they would cut down on all the text on terminals and backstory stuff. Some of it was interesting reading logs and emails but I lost track of who was who and everything else. I think it would be cool to have one set in the LA area with a destroyed Disneyland where you could go inside all the inner workings of the park and roam around Compton. I know that's far out but I think it would be cool.

I am stuck at the 'Battle for Bunker Hill' quest. From what I've read it becomes available after you have completed all other quest options from the other factions and it can't be avoided. I would prefer to play it on my main PC but I am stuck with this one until my fittings get here on Friday. That's like an eternity to me without being able to play Fallout 4.
