I think that an new version would be awsome. I have one question, is there any way that it could be made to fold a specified number of units before stopping work? Just like setting oneunit mode but being able to set it to say 5 units or 25 units if you wanted. I think that would be a nice feature.

Just wanted to post and thank the EVGA community for turning me on to GPU Tracker.  Makes things SO much easier vs. running the old school clients for both CPU and GPU.

I'm not quite sure how difficult this would be to implement yet, but it's definitely possible. I will know more once I get started on the new version.

Also, my workload from classes gets rather heavy this time of year up until the end of the semester in May. Don't expect to see the new version until at least then.

No pressure from me, for now the current tracker works great. I just think that would be a cool feature so that if you go to bed it can be set it to say 12 wu's then If you forget to check it in the morning and don't want it to fold all day for heat reasons or otherwise it will stop folding after the allotted wu's. Good luck with the rest of your classes.

A scheduler sounds more like what you're wanting, so you can set it to fold at preset times/stop folding at preset times. What if you set an smp wu on 5 wu's, and you get a strain of wu's which have a TPF one minute higher then 'average', that's allot of minutes difference.. Heat controlled pausing should also be possible ( not on all platforms but on windows it is possible ).

Hi
Having just popped in a P67 mobo and a 2600K, my next step was to put my cpu under 1 unit and then go for big adv :)

I have done this but still pulled a smp WU, I understand this is still possible, but on checking in - View client stats, I'm not showing Core A5 just Core A3.

Now is this correct? I have read the last few pages here and saw that the update should be automatic.

So what I'm saying is: Help please :)

I think you totally have enough people that are interested in the Tracker for the new v7 client. I know I don't even want to switch over untill you have one for it unless I absolutely have to. I really appreciate everything you have and are doing for the EVGA folding team. I was almost going to quit folding because it was so much of a hassle. Thanks.

I guess a scheduler is a better way to put it, but if it were set to fold say midnight to 6 am I wouldn't want it to stop folding in the middle of a wu because it was set to stop folding at 3. I think it would be better to have a set number of wu's to fold that way you didn't have anything just hanging waiting to get folded if 6 am came around and you weren't done with the wu.

To resolve this, it could be set not to start any new WUs after a certain time. This would allow greater precision with the stop time, (different WUs take different times to complete) without stopping in the middle of a WU.

As Jedi says, it should be 'smart' enough to judge the average runtime of the previous x work unit's where x needs to be large enough to indicate the current spread of work units but not large enough to have data which is invalidated by age ( for instance with tpf references from projects which are no longer active ).

Not arguing against 3rd party applications but I do want to make a point.

The functionality offerd by GPU Tracker which prevented you from quiting the project, most of that same functionality and more is now going into an official client. I don't see how this could be percieved as not being an improvement since:
  • The client has a socket interface allowing 3rd party developers to add functionality by using the client in service mode and providing an alternative interface to FAHControl
  • To top it off, FAHControl is an open source project meaning there is allot of potential for people to add functionality when there is a need.

A switch to V7 is the same as switching in the Tracker for an official beta client ( with it's flaws being beta ), there should be no difference in usability ( which is a BIG compliment  to Jedi95 ) only in 'getting used to the new shoes'.

If FAHControl will be beter then what a new Tracker version should/will look like, that remains to be seen for now ;) It depends on what official features are going into the release version, and if features isn't the issue but interface well then there are always allot of options for providing something different then the official FAHControl application ).

I guess you didn't read the last paragraph :p

A socket interface for the FAHClient means there is lots of potential for 3rd party applications, the only thing I said is the thing which Tracker gave you and which to your own words prevented you from giving up, that those functions will now be part of the official client. So, don't dish V7 based on being different from the tracker, be glad it's here since it will mean that both a new Tracker version, as well as the new official FAHControl application will be capable of more then the current Tracker.

Hey Jedi! I recently re-booted one of my rigs after stopping all clients [smp (-advmethods) and 3 GPU's] to install window updates. When I went to start tracker again, the SMP client does nothing. The logfile just shows that "client was stopped by the user". The GPU clients pick up right where they left off. This happened once on another one of my rigs too. Ended up re-installing tracker to fix the problem. Am I missing something or is this just a glitch? Any way to kick start the client or something?
I still use process lasso from my old manual flag days, just as an FYI.

I am not Jedi but I might help if you post the logfile from Tracker and the logfile for the smp client itself ( mostly the last ).

I dumped everything except the client config and client info for the SMP client.. sorry! Tried to get it going before leaving for work and was in a hurry. If it helps, the log file for the SMP simply went through the %complete steps then just stated that I stopped the client, which I did to install the windows updates. No other info there. No error messages or anything like that. It just would not "run". The log file showed no further progression when I restarted it and the client stayed "yellow' all night.

    Re:FAH GPU Tracker V2 2011/04/07 04:16:23 (permalink)
Then Tracker had an internal problem, and while I have acces to the Trackers source code I'm not as familiar with it as Jedi himself obviously.

But, the config files and client info could help to see if it's malformed ( eg maybe the Tracker failed to read the configuration file and thus couldn't start the client ). Post what you got, I might not check it right away since I need to run the config through a debugger to be sure but maybe Jedi himself will spot the problem before I have to check it.

It might be that the updates restarted your computer while the tracker was still bussy writing to a file, resulting in a corrupted file, otherwise it's hard to see where a windows update would break the tracker's functions.

Thanks for your help but I'm stuck at work anyways until 5PM est.
This is only the second time its happened in the months I've been running tracker, so I'm not too worried. I can always -oneunit the GPU's and just re-install tracker afterwards. Just wondering if it's a common issue, or just a random glitch.
The only thing I have left is the two config files in the SMP folder anyway, so I don't know how much help they would be, wait.. they just go to the recycle bin I think.. so I may be able to retrieve the logfiles. I'll check when I get home. Thanks for the help.

I remember a post about an issue like this on the support forum, can't find it right now but I think Jedi knows about the issue.

Haven't been able to contact him in some day's sadly, and seeing this -> http://fahtracker.forumotion.com/t236-looking-for-developers#921 makes me wonder if he isn't pushing something which I am trying to coordinate as being part of a .net interface component.

Jedi again, get in touch as we really need to talk, there is no sense in splitting development of features I been promoting for a long time, especially if you want to go the open source route. If you want to have a more leading role in such a project don't worry I might be the one trying to coordinate an initial startup of a common interface component, there is nothing fixed about who will take a leading role here. In fact, let me repeat here that I would like to see Harlam take on a leading role if he is interested and if we can get a good discussion going.

I'll just go ahead and start a thread on foldingforum to try and get you, Harlam and anyone who is interested to discuss the possibilities and link you to it as your input will be appreciated.

OK.. got home.. finished up the GPU wu's. Completely deleted Tracker and re-installed. Clients downloaded fine. GPU's are running. SMP says "running" but is NOT. No core or wu downloaded. Let it sit for a half hour. Nothing in the log file because nothing is working as far as SMP goes.
    Stumped here... halp!

Um, if your settings are being wiped out after rebooting you did something seriously wrong. Did you run the Tracker directly from the .zip file without extracting it? If so, you will need to redownload it and set it up properly.

    How to:
    1. Extract zip archive
    2. Move extracted folder to someplace where you can keep it (the Tracker sets itself up in whatever folder it's placed in)
    3. Run the Tracker

You can also move the Tracker's folder without losing config settings because it keeps everything in its main folder.

I was wondering if anyone was using the XML FTP upload option and how it was working for them.

I recently installed the F@HMonitor app on my phone and saw that they had the option to do check status via XML uploads. Before I go through the trouble of setting a FTP server, I wanted to see if people had success with this app/upload. Maybe even ask if anyone would be willing to share a small amount of space on their FTP site for the sole purpose of this app/file. I would just like to keep an eye on my machine when I'm at work to ensure everything is running like it should.

    Thanks all.

I was wondering if anyone was using the XML FTP upload option and how it was working for them.

I recently installed the FAHMonitor app on my phone and saw that they had the option to do check status via XML uploads.

    Thanks all.

Yup, I'm running the FAHMonitor app and gpu tracker.  Works great.  Every now and again you get a ftp upload failure from the tracker, but it doesn't affect it, because it will get the next one.  Allows you to see tpf, wu#, ppd, and completed %, all on your phone.

Thanks for the reply. I'm about at my wits end with trying to set it up to be honest. I made an account over at drivehq.com and can't seem to get it play nice. Maybe I just need some sleep since not matter what I do seems to working at this point.

At least I know it works and its my fault so I'm not left to wonder if it would never work no matter what I do.

I thought I already offered to host you stats? :) Offer still stands anyhow.

First off, thank you both for offering space on your sites to a fellow folder. I appreciate it. But before I accept the offer, I just want to make sure I'm clear as to what I'm doing wrong.

I setup an account over at drivehq.com. Now I can get to the page through my web brower using the following url:

    ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@ftp.drivehq.com/

I can also use my Filezilla FTP client to connect using the following info:

    Server: ftp.drivehq.com
    Username: USERNAME
    Password: PASSWORD
    Port: 21

So in the tracker I went to the "Web Settings" tab and did the following:

I checked the box that says, "Enable XML status report" and put a path to a folder I created on my storage drive. I then clicked the box that says "Upload status file to FTP server" and entered:

    Server: ftp.drivehq.com
    Username: USERNAME
    Password: PASSWORD

After several failed attempts I changed the server to, "ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@ftp.drivehq.com/" leaving the username and password fields blank. Again I got failed attempts. So I then added my username and password to the appropriate fields and left the server the same, still getting failed uploads.

I just want to make sure I'm not crazy. I mean I know I'm missing something, but I can't seem to put my finger on it.

    Thanks in advance.

Its harder on those sort of sites as theyre uploading to a specific directory but not telling you where. I found another free hoster (made a forum topic in here somewhere) but likely it would be the same issue.

Problem is you dont have a direct link to YOUR space.

Like mine, which would be, http://sleinous.dyndns.in...ingkody7839/status.xml

Also whats not helping is you're not putting "status.xml" at the end of the URL, you NEED to do this or it WONT save the xml is what I found.
