Two American Ebola Patients Coming Home to U.S. for Treatment

IMO they should remain in Africa for treatment. Bringing the disease here is just asking for trouble. Dumb.

Well they were in a French hospital for a while and it's not heavily contagious unless you have super intimate contact with someone...  It's so deadly because in third world countries they don't have a ready supply of IV fluids (which is how it really kills you is by dehydration and then organ failure)...  Plus if I'm a village doctor and see it and it mimics something else I might not realize it's Ebola...  So as long as you do not drink their bodily fluids, come in contact with their feces, or make love to them then you will be fine it is not airborne...

yeah...I agree. My 12yr old daughter will beginning school soon and there are so many shots and what not that she needs or proof that she has them. If she doesn't have them she won't be allowed to go. Which IMO is a good thing. Especially with all the other races that are migrating to the states and into our schools.

Some vaccinations are pretty ridiculous though... I'd go as far to say some shouldn't exist... My parents usually got a waiver to not disclose even though I always had up to date shots thank goodness a flu shot isn't required I refuse to get one..

I'm also not against vaccinations completely only force .

Seems legit, lets take something we really want to stay put and give it a huge help spreading by flying it all over the world.

Seriously, given the period without symptoms that this virus has, if these doctors are going home, they can give it to their wife or kids, and then they spread it at work or school. By the time the doctor is showing symptoms, there could be 15-20 more infected and they are already spreading it. Not to mention that it hasn't been here before, so for all we know, it will attach to some common animal or insect that we have which africa doesn't and WHAM, massive spreading.

The people working on this in africa already agree that something is different this time, despite all the advances they have made since the huge outbreak in the 70's, the better suits they have, the easier ways they have to spread info, ebola is still running out of control over there. For all we know it has evolved and is using a new transmission method we are unaware of...and we just gave it a ticket to one of the largest cities in the USA.

I have made the joke at times that we need a new plauge. I just hope this isn't it.

1000000:1 says that when a virus starts making zombies we will do this exact thing, fly it on over. Then its the last of us in real life.

Obama Has Signed an Executive Order to Allow Detention of Americans With ‘Respiratory Illnesses’

As the Ebola outbreak continues to cause concern, President Barack Obama has signed an amendment to an executive order that would allow him to mandate the apprehension and detention of Americans who merely show signs of “respiratory illness.” The executive order, titled Revised List of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases, amends executive order 13295, passed by George W. Bush in April 2003, which allows for the, “apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals to prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of suspected communicable diseases.”  Although Ebola was listed on the original executive order signed by Bush, Obama’s amendment ensures that Americans who merely show signs of respiratory illness, with the exception of influenza, can be forcibly detained by medical authorities. Although the quarantining of people suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus seems like a perfectly logical move, the actual preconditions for this to happen aren’t restricted to just those suffering from the disease.

This along with sending ebola testing kits to national guard in all 50 states as well as giving 140 million dollars to a drug company with zero success but good "theories" on curing it.

Gee, almost like they are preparing for something that has been planned out. All those conspiracy videos about the stickers on the backs of signs giving cryptic information on nearest fema camp sites almost seem legit.

Also, you can look at that detention order as a death sentence. If these camps are setup, then you can guess conditions will be poor and if sent you will have a pretty high chance of contracting it if you didn't have it before you were forced to go there.

CNN breaking news.. A patient at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York is being tested for Ebola after recently returning from West Africa, the hospital says.

Great. My wife was there last week for a test. Something like that gets loose in NYC with the crowds in the subway system and there's no stopping it, no way no how, not without shutting down the entire city for a month, and still there would be a LOT of deaths before that ever happened (if ever). Btw, it CAN be spread by air via a sneeze or cough, and I couldn't count the amount of times I've caught a flu on the crowded NYC subway from 'matyrs' who refuse to take sick leave when they're sick, but instead opt to make everyone else sick because they think that coming to work when they're sick will somehow earn them brownie points with their boss. It happens a LOT in NYC.

I also have to wonder if someone in the CDC was getting kickbacks to let those people in? The CDC says the risk is very small, and they have it 'under control'. My opinion; ANY risk with a disease like this is too much - it's just asking for trouble. Better to fly a medical team and all the gear to W.Africa in a big C5 transport than to intentionally put 317m US citizens at risk (well.. 297m US citizens and 20m illegal immigrants).

I'm waiting for the conspiracy theorists to claim it's intentional and link it to all those hundreds of thousands of plastic coffins FEMA have. Gotta admit, it's a great way to allow the Govt to completely control the entire population.

edit a little while later: wow.. on CNN.com the "breaking news" banner has been removed. The news item about the ebola victims in the US still had the new possible case above mentioned in the article. I just refreshed that article.. they've now edited out any mention of the NYC person. WTH?

wow.. there was discussion about it in the comments.. but now all the comments mentioning New York or Mount Sinai have been deleted...  I guess they don't want to start a panic, but a little late now to retract it - it's all over other news outlets [link].

..lol, watching CNN article and refreshing the page and looking at comments. Every comment that mentions the possible NYC case gets deleted within seconds.

I know but it has had many years to adapt unless the CDC releases a new form onto the general public for REX 84 to take effect...  Then we will see the camps established by HR 645 put to official use along with the NDAA being enacted officially...  Bruno the FEMA camps already exist and so do the fusion centers...

One sneeze or cough in a crowded Manhattan subway carriage could easily do it.

Also don't forget the 'unprecedented' African Conference in Washington D.C. this week with nearly 50 African heads of state and government, each having an entourage of 10-20 or more depending on who they are... nice timing.

Yes and no. If a droplet of mucus from a sneeze made it's way into the eyes or mouth there could be transmission. However a simple sneeze or cough won't infect everone on a plane like some claim.

So, if someone had mucus on their hands, or some how got some on something, and you touched it, or were touched and then proceeded to touch your mouth, or eyes . You may become infected?

Yes, but the risk of infection via that route is minimal. So wash your hands and don't touch your mouth or eyes until you wash your hands. Same practice as avoiding other illnesses like a cold, flu, etc. Don't have poo throwing fights either.

In 'normal' conditions perhaps catching it through a sneeze is unlikely, but have you ever been on the NYC subways in rush hour? Usually you're packed in like sardines, and sometimes your arms are pinned to your sides. I've had people sneeze on me more than once and felt the spray on my skin and no doubt breathed it in and certainly become sick myself as a result. It is unavoidable in that situation. I never said "a simple sneeze or cough would infect everyone on a plane like some claim". BUT certainly a simple sneeze could easily infect someone who is no more than maybe 8 inches away, and in a packed subway car generally you will have maybe 5 or 6 people easily within spraying distance of a sneeze. If maybe 2-3 catch it during the course of the first persons 1 hour trip just that one day going home from work, then in a few weeks when those 3 are on a train in different carriages and they sneeze, suddenly maybe 9 more people get it out of the 20 or 30 they sneezed on every day, and it increases exponentially from there.

The fact is ebola IS known to transmit through saliva (and other bodily fluids including sweat), so of course it's a huge risk in a city like NYC with the crowded transportation - because of the proximity. The CDC are trying hard to convince everyone there's nothing to worry about because they don't want people to panic, meanwhile the people who knew the most about it drop dead.

I'm just hoping this guy in Mount Sinai Hospital is negative for ebola.

So your saying its minimal risk? Then tell me this. More than 100 health workers that have been fighting Ebola in Africa have contracted the virus themselves.  Considering the extraordinary measures that these health workers take to keep from getting the disease, that is quite chilling.  We are not just talking about one or two “accidents”.  We are talking about more than 100 of them getting sick. So Ebola is spreading this easily among medical professionals in biohazard body suits that keep any air from touching the skin. Many are attempting to play down the threat from this virus by stating that unless you "exchange bodily fluids" with someone that you don't have anything to worry about. If that was truly the case, then how in the world have more than 100 health workers contracted the virus so far? Health professionals that deal with Ebola take extreme precautions to keep from being exposed to the disease. But despite those extreme measures, they are catching it too.  So if this virus does start spreading all over the globe, what chance is the general population going to have?

The following chart which shows how this Ebola outbreak is beginning to grow at an exponential pace...

Well, today the World Health Organization says that the total number of cases has risen to 1,663 and the total number of deaths has risen to 887.  So just imagine what that chart would look like now.  Yes, it is definitely not an exaggeration to use the word "exponential" to describe what is happening. If more than 100 health workers fighting the virus have already contracted it, that means that it is already completely and totally out of control.  If this virus does start spreading globally, it has the potential to kill millions of people.  It could potentially be the greatest disaster that any of us have ever seen.

I never said minimal risk. In my first post I said not to transport these folks to the U.S. I was talking about sneezing/coughing.
