Ok you're right, I was mistaken. The argument that 3080s are being cannibalized by 3090s somehow is likely fallacious though. The reality is that 3080s are vastly outselling 3090s. There's more to it than just the die. The memory is expensive and limited as well. It might seem like people will buy whatever they can get their hands on, but the reality is that most people are not buying 3090s even if they can find them. It just seems that way when you're in a community such as this one.
There is no official numbers on what cards are selling however we can speculate. As yields improve there are less defective dies for lower end cards. This normally would not effect the different model cards distribution as in a low demand/high supply market people are more price sensitive. Nvidia would want to distribute dies in a way that meets market demand to sell the most chips instead of only making more of a higher end model fewer people would buy. This changes in a low supply market. Individuals unable to get the product for MSRP will begin shifting their price sensitivity. We are seeing this now through the market price for 3080s shifting towards ~2k USD. Nvidia would normally have to disable parts of dies in order to fulfill 3080 demand however since demand for all cards is up, they can choose not to disable parts of dies and keep them as 3090s. There are other factors that go into making a card besides just the die but just looking at the MSRP you can see NVIDIA makes much more selling a 3090 over a 3080. 14 extra gigs of vram doesn't cost anywhere close to $700. The fact that there are not any 3090s in stock proves people are buying them. You can also check on ebay and see people are buying them even used for 2.5-3k. So yields up means more 3090s in a low supply market. Demand for any card means more 3090s. CMP 90HX means less 3080s. All together this leads to a decrease in supply of 3080s for consumers. We don't know how much the 3090s are cannibalizing the 3080s but its more than likely happening.

He went months without posting the roadmap here. And then he posted pretty consistently for a few weeks. But when the stream seemed to dry out, his roadmap posts became a bit infrequent. I am confident he still monitors this thread, but given the resizable bar and other issues/initiatives that he must be dealing with, I expect the roadmap fell off his priority list again.

The "1-2 weeks" is cutting it close for the grandfathered prices (captain obvious at your service)... I really hope we get a good set of drops before the 16th, otherwise, it will be impossible to defend against the group insisting that EVGA is holding out until the price hike, not with the lack of information we are privy to.

If they end up basically screwing the people already in line for months and drop the 3080 FTW completely in favor for a brand new queue for a 3080ti then EVGA will definitely lose my trust, and probably a lot of others too.
I doubt they would drop the other lines but least of all would they drop the 3080 FTW. I think once supply catches up in 12-18 months, they'll finally start being able to push out some actual good numbers in those other SKUs that we aren't seeing movement on. My guess is the reason they won't announce certain SKUs as dead is that they have every intention of restarting production on those once it is possible.

I’m going the other way with it, I hope there’s a ton of drops just after the price gets moved to cover the cost of tariff because 1) EVGA shouldn’t have to foot the bill for it and 2) I look forward to seeing all the posts saying they bought the card from the people who insisted they wouldn’t buy a card at the new price

The price increases are surprisingly reasonable, especially when you compare with similar offerings from asus and msi. I would be fine paying the increased prices now if it meant I could get the 3898 sooner. The 1-2 week delay we are seeing now for 3898 is probably due to the backup of cargo ships reported in that wsj article (thanks for sharing it btw!)

It's just driving me crazy, i just want to finish the build. There are days when i think i should just go on Craigslist and pay 1500 for a 3070 just to get it out of my head.

I just passed down my old system with on board graphics to my son until I can replace my 1080 ti. He was happy to finally have his own PC but very disappointed at its limitations. Especially since he has been drooling over it for quite some time.
