Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/01/12 06:14:01 (permalink)
The way I read it, nVidia was side-swiped by how much higher AMD allowed its partners to sell GPUs.

Tariffs, which will not exist in April (sans a q-anon 'storm' in which case video cards will not exactly matter) are no excuse.

The fact that everyone is selling cards for hundreds of dollars below their real value in the market is.

I, for one, think prices should be set to a point where supply meets demand. Its in UNDER pricing the 30x0 series - such that a MRSP $1000 card became a MSRP $500 card (3070 level) that demanded so many upgrades.

This was to compete with AMD which, relatively speaking, has been even MORE of a paper launch.
(i.e. Best Buy didn't even have the card on opening night).

I've been telling people for months, since the 30-series first launched and rumors started of the 3080 Ti etc after AMD's card performance was leaked that there's absolutely no way NVidia would release a refresh & undercut their own profit margins etc in January... looking more and more like I was right.
At the earliest, they're more likely to be in April-June.

Yeah, I reckon a 3080ti would have been around $1200 before the recent price hikes. Now? Either they postpone it or put it at the old 3090 price while the 3090 settles around $2000.... Its not like you could actually buy an AMD $999 6900XT card anywhere.

Are you insane? 1200$ for a TI? Why would it be almost 150% the price of a 3080 FTW3 for just a bit more power?

Ti would probably be around 1000$ now considering the FTW3 is now 880$. 1200$ is unrealistic and waaaaaaaayy too expensive.

Morning guys, can someone explain enewts notification queues for me? For example the 10G-P5-3888-KR says the notifications went out for 12/10 @9:08am.... so does that mean that people that got on the queue on or before that time/date got an invite to buy?

Yes people from before the marked time have most likely gotten a notification to buy.

Hope the 3080 ftw3 hybrid moves by 7 minutes today at least. I'm at 9:09:36 for it and it's the best chance I have of getting a card soon. Or the xc3 hybrid moves by 2 hours.

My next closest would be the ftw3 ultra on 11/27.

It's all self reported, so if you do get a notification, report back so enewt can keep the list up-to-date

I'm guessing it's the mobile stuff only.  Announcing Ti now I think would be a bad PR move as the main topic of conversation at the moment has been the effect of AIBs increasing prices worldwide even though it's only the US tariff exemption that expired and so should only have legit impacted US customers.  Announcing Ti now would just invite a flood of "great! more crap nobody but scalpers can buy".

Well actually at this point anything they announce won't be available to anyone because stupid scalpers and companies not producing enough (and blaming their mess on COVID as usual since it's so easy to blame everything on that as soon as something happens).

Well minus here because of the queue system, but everyone will flood to that as soon as the TI are posted so good luck for that too...

There better be a decent amount of movement for the hybrids today.

I have zero interest in the event personally where I assume they'll just announce mobile 3000 series and maybe small chance of 3080ti.

Nice find! Last image in the slider for those trying to find it. The link currently goes to an article that hasn't been published yet, so don't be surprised if it 404's until the announcement.

You think Nvidia will not announce a new product because it would be a bad PR move? HAHAHAHA! We're talking about Nvidia, I wouldn't be surprised at anything they do.  Having said that, I completely agree with you.  Announcing a new 3080 variant now is a slap in the face of us "regular joes" that want a 3080.

Companies keep announcing new variants of cards (and no inventory of course) yet they still can't complete the orders of people waiting in line since the past 4 months for the ones already announced.... Sigh...

None yet.  If past is precedent with respect to the waterlogged cards, expect EVGA to send "invite to purchase" emails to the existing queue for the Hydro Coppers (likely in one drop) and concurrently announce (likely via Twitter and, potentially, this thread) when they will open up the queue again for the HCs.  They will likely then leave the "auto-notify" button live for those cards going forward, but subsequent drops will be inconsistent (see all the other queues).  Given that the HCs have been delayed -- and this is just speculation -- I wouldn't expect to see the auto-notify buttons relight for them until well into February (if not later).  Again, it should be tied to when they have satisfied (or are very close to satisfying) the existing HC queues.

Correct.  Please keep in mind that the waterlogged cards (skus ending in an even number) were not launched until mid-November and then again (per the cadence I discussed above with the HCs) in December when the first tranche of waterlogged queue members had been satisfied.

EVGA has had plenty of time since January 4th to amass sufficient inventory for drops to multiple skus across our 30 series landscape.  Let's hope that today is the day that the dam breaks.  Best of luck out there and go get your card!

They probably cannot release much information about all this because it's under the cover of "if you reveal this information NVidia may bat you upside the head" meaning lower the yield allocated to said AIB or worse.

Let's just hope the information from last week that we "should" get a 3080 & 3090 Hybrid drop as well as some Kingpins this week was accurate.  If we can at least get back to the regular-drop pattern that was going on most of the December where at least most SKUs (that have moved, at all) got at least one drop every other week, it will at least get things moving again.

No information would be better than the messaging to date, which has been, "production is ramping, and it will continue to ramp" - Jacob's said this many times on Twitter.  And it's apparent that this is patently not the case.  So I don't fault EVGA for what are obviously industrywide problems, and I like the queue system, but EVGA have made several public statements that 'get people's hopes up' re: availability that simply don't line up with reality.  No statements regarding production capacity, or simply, "we don't know" would be better than "production continues to ramp up" when it obviously has not.

We'll probably never know but I'm wondering if some of what AIBs have said is because the AIBs asked Nvidia "when can we expect more chips?" and Nvidia told them "we're ramping up production, soon, etc etc...".  So the AIBs turned around and told their card manufacturing "ok Nvidia says more chips are coming so you need to be ready to crank out more cards" and the AIBs then publicly said "we should be ramping up production, soon, etc etc...".  Then those Nvidia chips never ramped up as expected, which means they couldn't ramp up their card manufacturing because they didn't have the chips and folks said "Hey AIBs, what the hell?" and the AIBs have been stuck between a rock and a hard place because of the control Nvidia asserts over them even though they would love to publicly say "Nvidia screwed us and in doing so screwed you, sorry, we're trying to make the best of all this."

_7ucky_ On top of that, honoring the MSRP price for those who queued before today's day up until April is a big deal.

They're not honoring everyone that signed up through the date that was posted.
Anyone still in queue after the April date will have to pay the higher prices, no matter when you joined queue.

Hence my "up until April" caveat.

I just hope when EVGA goes to release the updated cards they, kill off Queues and allow those in it to transfer to the new model instead of just leaving a queue to die.

At some point they have to stop giving false hope that these cards will ever be made.

I missed no such thing, you missed where they never said anything about those queued before that date getting that price.

Regardless of when you queued up, if you haven't got your email for purchase by the April date, you will pay more for your card when your spot comes up.
That's my issue with this, is that they're not honoring spot in queue at original announced price for those queued before the announcement date.
