Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/01/06 19:19:35 (permalink)
Personally, I do not think the tariffs are at the heart of the issue.  Truly, supply is constrained, and these manufacturers have realized what people are willing to pay the scalpers for these cards.  There is such a shortage and subsequent frenzy that plenty of folks are justifying the +$200 to +$400 or higher increase over the retail pricing.  So why wouldn't they raise their prices until they can't sell the cards?  That is how a business profits - all of them - by assessing and charging what the market will bear.  Here's another interesting observation: already the prices for Amazon's affiliate sellers and eBay scalpers are on the rise, even though their particular cards were originally bought for much lower prices.  This whole situation is really messed up.  And at the heart of it, NVIDIA (and AMD) are to blame - they created this frenzy knowing that they couldn't deliver the needed supply.  Sad.

I would really love to believe that EVGA will hold the line on price increases, but I know that is an optimistic, yet total unrealistic fantasy.  And I feel sorry for those in the queue for 3 to 4 months or more who will have to face these increased prices for a product that should have been more available long ago.  It is also disheartening that after this long Holiday break, there hasn't been significantly more movement.  :(

I'm trying to be optimistic, but the whole world seems to be in a state of utter chaos right now.  BUT, enough grousing, please hang in there, friends...we will get there eventually.  And, in the big picture, this isn't really a life-threatening problem which so many others are facing.

Thanks to our friend eNewt for all his fantastic contributions to this forum.  His diligence to provide meaningful information, optimism, and positivity are invaluable to this thread!  Thanks!

Let's all hope for a better tomorrow (with a bigger supply of GPUs for gaming goodness).  :)

If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you.
If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.

Seeing how slow the progress is for the cards I'm in line for, I am not worried about a price hike anymore, it will happen well before I get a shot. Granted, 32 minutes of progress, with 22:00ish hours to go for me, in 3 days, that's only 140 ish more days before I see a shot at a card.  Pretty damn depressing.

I was hoping for a bigger drop on the 3667. That means it was either a tiny drop, or a lot of people signed up between 6:50 and 7. I'm hoping they have a more substantive drop soon that brings the queue up past 7:01.

I think it will be but it would be amazing to get confirmation.  I doubt they will considering the Ti's aren't technically even announced yet.

There is a zero percent chance you will get any sort of information of any kind from an eVGA or NVidia official about anything having to do with an unconfirmed/rumored GPU that we have zero idea of when it will actually come out... so far it's migrated from January to February, I still say I'll believe it when it's announced.  NVidia has no reason to rush a refresh to market with how bad the AMD cards perform at ray-tracing and how they trade blows with NVidia cards at given price point performance.

My conspiratorial brain thinks EVGA is holding back cards until they get their prices update on the site and then they'll open the floodgates. I hope this is not the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

That makes no logical sense though.  They are NOT making more money from the price increases, they are PAYING more to get the cards made & to people, which results in higher prices...

Somewhat disappointed in the "wait queue" for 3080FTW Ultra since 5th Oct!!!.....especially now that FC EK Blocks are available for pre-order, my 1080Ti's are getting tired :)
Really....5th Oct and now 3 months later and nothing? Wow!

May as well hold out now for 3080Ti ...I've been pretty much lost interest in it now ;)

I'm fairly confident that we'll see something. There seem to be real circumstances where the 30 series cards benefit from having more than 10GB of memory. Based on the rumored specs, it sounds like they'll probably use it as a way to get slightly more money for the GPU dies that just barely miss the bar to be 3090s--why disable a ton of good bits of the die and sell as a $700 card when you could leave it much more intact and sell it for $1000?

I could absolutely buy the idea that they're holding back a bit, at least in part to see what happens with the tariffs--if they're going to have to pay higher import tariffs going forward, they're going to want to raise the prices before they sell out of their current inventory. When your cost for something you sell goes up, you raise your prices before you run out, so that you can afford to pay the higher costs of restocking. From what I understand, the margins on GPUs are abysmal, which would absolutely explain why everyone seems to be raising their prices.

There is a short term opportunity to increase margin on the products that cleared customs in 2020 and in their inventory now, but I doubt the delta is material enough to cause them to deliberately delay drops....  The numbers are just not large enough to matter, especially when you factor in all the other channels (including RMA) that they need to feed.  The headache of deliberately holding back is not worth the effort.

Circumstances raise your real costs by $X
You raise your prices by $Y where Y > X
You defend the price increase as valid due to circumstances
Pocket additional profit

When people are paying scalper prices due to scarcity and people are making giant crypto-mining farms, you can set Y well above X and get away with it.  All you need is the pretext to deflect accusations of gouging.

Pretty much how pricing gas works.

Maybe.... just maybe, I'll be able to get a 30 series when the 40 series comes out. Guess I'll never get new stuff again, thank you bots and scalpers (and coin miners).

How do I know what email I used for the notifications? If I log into my evga account and it shows them listed, does that mean I used the same email?

I ask because I thought I setup notifications with my phone number/email and I cannot create an account with it.  It now says the two emails must be the same.

Those blocks are not shipping until next month, I've preorder that and a backplate and should be getting them mid February. The 3080FTW is about to get over the hump where we can count in days instead of hours because most people signed up the first two days.

I'm also not sure holding out for a card that is "confirmed" but no one knows when the release date is a good plan.

Yes. Just make sure you are checking that your auto-notify registrations are showing up on your page on the eu.EVGA.com website and not the EVGA.com website.

If you are logged into your account and you see your auto-notify times listed, then they are associated with your account and you should be “good to go.” Good luck.

Someone's gonna have to explain something to me: why if the prices are going up in the US because of the Trump tax thingy I keep hearing about does the 3080s now on Newegg.CA (Canada) are now up 200$++ in price?

I mean I know Newegg was always a bunch of scammers and thieves but seriously why should it even affect us here, and why the hell is the price of the cards now jumping by hundreds of dollars here in CANADA???

I swear to god the whole cards fiasco keep getting worse and worse even when you think it reached the bottom of the barrel...

Word : Corona!! it's the magical word everyone is using now at business to justify anything, even companies that are making HUGE profits in the ongoing situation still reduce salaries and so, why? Corona.
Cards going rare, why? Corona.
Cards going more expensive, Why? Corona.
Shipping is delayed and they can't find enough people to handle carge, why? Corona.
People are unemployed and not even hired to fill in the places of business in dire need of labor, why?! Corona.....

Sorry folks, I just am not feeling jovial today....  I'll do my best to rebound for tonight's update, but yesterday's events in DC really shook me.

Am I reading that right that the 306ti FTW3 only moved 56 seconds?  Or is it 56 mins?

That's 56 seconds.....but that COULD cover a large quantity of products, being as early in the queue as it is.

56 seconds.  Keep in mind that this is the launch day congestion, so it is not unexpected that the movement along the timeline is so short.  Other skus that launched after 10/5 (the day the queue system was announced), on their launch days, have moved less than 10 seconds on a material drop.  The movement on the timeline per drop will increase as the timeline moves farther and farther away from the launch hour.

I am 10 minutes away on the FTW3 queue. I am going to be furious if they raise the price before mine drops.

I feel you. I'm not as close as you are, but it'd be pretty disappointing to have to wait 4 months and then get hit with a price increase all because they couldn't fulfill the demand.

Price increase is thanks to Tariffs, not demand. And since it's a done deal, even if they get repealed I doubt prices will go back down anytime soon.

Good news is it might reduce demand. Bad news is the tariffs will probably also reduce the amount of stock heading towards the US.

Yep, I know it's from the tariffs, but everyone who's queued up to buy now was ready to purchase 4 months ago - hence my comment the manufacturers not being able to fulfill demand. I also think given the relative inelasticity of these products, the demand won't drop very much. We'll see what happens if/when Ti and Super versions are announced, possibly next week.

The tariff stuff is only part of it. Especially since it’s been a factor since August. Still glad I got my 3080 for the original price instead of jacked up.
