I've gotten two cards now outside of evga now (still waiting for the FTW 3080 Ultra here though). Here is how I did it.
I got both from Best Buy and used only a single device looking for one specific card instead of spreading out and trying to get multiple cards at the same time. Best Buy has been doing large drops with multiple cards and brands. My theory is that the Best Buy system thinks you are a bot if you try to get multiple cards at the same time and will not let you check out (e.g. no store within 250 miles for pickup). I used my phone and the BB application for both purchases and set it up for as quick as a purchase as I could, add to cart, check out, double click for Apple Pay. You will have to pick up the card and in both cases I was able to pick it up early. In both cases I had to wait through the "Waiting for inventory" message until the add to cart button showed up again.
Note for one card it purchased through a Best Buy CC which it somehow signed me up for (Or I just checked out ASAP and hit agree to it) - not a big deal really as it can be paid off and cancelled.
For notification I've been using the YouTube channels that have been scrolling stock checks, I was also using the Discord channels but there was about a 30 second delay both times from the YouTube siren to the Discord notification.
Another note: I also use OctoShop and they have sent notification for when New Egg is doing a drop about 30 - 15 minutes ahead of time. I wasn't able to buy a card through New Egg but at least some people are getting an early notification there.
I hope that this helps some others get the cards they want this week I would not reject out of hand that Best Buy would not do a drop on the 24th, you would not be able to get it for the 25th but you would be able to play some of the Steam Winter Sale games I'm sure we all will be picking up this month.
Now thats some good tips there!

Don't you hate that? Now that we can see them on the map it drives me crazy to see him go all over my neighborhood and surrounding areas all day long only to get to me near the end of the day each time.

Maybe, depends on what clocks you were getting out of the 3080 XC3. I was able to hit 11.8k on Port Royal at stock vs 12.8k (almost 12.9k) overclocked to +150/+800, which gave me an actual average GPU core of 2118, with the peak being 2175MHz. Should be noted, all that "score gain" was only a 4FPS improvement in the benchmark... but, 4FPS in an RT title like say Cyberpunk, average, is actually a decent game for nothing but some slider adjusting/a higher quality GPU model upgrade. Overall I would say such a sideways upgrade is not worth it, unless you're doing it for other reasons, I.E. the 3080 FTW3 Ultra runs cooler, has higher power target, etc.

Literally this. It's absolutely better if your main use for it is OC/benchmarking/leaderboards stuff where every clock cycle counts, but as a lateral move for gaming, not so much. My personal observation (as an engineer, not an overclocker myself): Ampere's performance for gaming and overclocking is already power hungry, to the point that undervolting gets you a similarly performing card at a huge power consumption benefit; to me, that says even "stock" Ampere chips likely don't have substantial overclocking headroom (for gaming purposes) even with Hybrid coolers or stock water loops. Maybe if you're piping a waterblock through a honkin' huge radiator or using a coolant mixture that's excellent at heat conduction, then you might get some respectable clock boosts (Dabadger84 seems like a better source on that than myself), but part of the reason I opted for the XC3 Black myself was the huge power draw relative to clock speeds of the cards and memory. Factory-OC this generation just doesn't seem particularly worthwhile for game performance, given how close to the edge Ampere is already running. You'd likely see better stability from investing the price premium of the factory-OC cards in some Noctua fans or a higher performing PSU, and more performance by investing that cash into a better CPU or faster RAM/SSDs.
That being said, if you want your card to have disco lights, then the FTW3 with its smattering of LEDs is the better choice. Plus, that gigantic cooler assembly will likely keep the chip cooler than the XC3 variant, even with factory overclocks.

The biggest delta will be in additional RGB goodness.  In all seriousness, it depends on how much you push the card via overclocking.... If minimum (or none), then I think on most games you are looking at a few incremental FPS at best.

These NewEgg combos are terrible. $1100 for an Asus intel motherboard and Asus GPU. 3090 is looking like a deal.
