Pretty sure my plunge into gaming goodness started with Ultima Underworld.  Couldn't get enough of that game.  Have been an RPG junkie ever since.

Forgot that one.  Many hours spent with that RPG.  RPGs were definitely my game(s) of choice.

Ok per our favorite Amphibian here is my list:
Asteriods, why is a subject for an adult form.
Amiga Archon
Early PC Warlords and Warlords 2

MMOG World of Warcraft.

I got into first person shooters, got lost in the old 3D.

Played Starcraft and StarcraftII, really never any good.  But I enjoyed the game.

I started my computer gaming with 5.25 floppy disks (where in the world is carmen sandiego, The oregon trail). Moved on from there after some time not having a computer to starcraft on a Pentium 133 with mmx technology..good times!

Gravis Ultrasound!!!!

It was better then the sound blast cards around the time it was release :)
The Sound Blaster AWE32 came later.

I still have mine... no idea if it still works - ISA ports left mother boards decades ago.

I know this it the GPU thread - but it's funny to see Sound Cards making a come back.

Related to the thread, I posted before that I got a notify for the 3080 Ti FTW3 - I did buy it.

Can I queue up for the nvidia RTX 4000 series cards? Trying to get ahead of the curve.

ha ha ha ha... seconded!

Maybe EVGA should roll over those of us that remain on the queues when the RTX 4000s launch in September 2022....

that is a good idea

Not my first game, but one of my first "real" PC games was Bioshock. I played it on a Pentium 4 Dell with 2gb of RAM and some nVidia GPU from Wal-Mart. It was PCI only, as the system had neither AGP nor PCIe busses. I distinctly remember the last boss fight; I would stare down at the floor, move out of cover, aim and shoot at ~1 FPS, pan back down to the floor, move into cover and reload. Playing that game again a few years later on a well-specced Macbook Pro (back when they came with dedicated GPUs) was a transcendent experience.

Looking back, I honestly wonder whether that GPU was better than the iGPU in the P4 . I really should go back and bench it sometime.

3D Pinball Space Cadet anyone? It was my go to when I got sick of hearts, solitaire, minesweeper and ski free.  Other PC games I played early on were things like Chips Challenge, Treasure Mountain, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Wolfenstein, etc...

At some point I switched to snes, sega then n64 and didn't play pc games until I was older and started playing Counter Strike.  Around that time I discovered a game called Natural Selection.  Definitely one of my favorites and sometimes I still miss playing it even after 20 years or so.

Talking about these things reminds me of how time flies...

Good luck to everyone else out there waiting for a card!

Wizardry on the Apple IIe.
The Bard's Tale on Commodore 64.
Twisted Metal on Playstation.
But the game that solidified my love of PC gaming, online gaming and FPS games = Starsiege Tribes,  On my Pentium II 400 mhz (blistering speed!) with a Riva TNT 16MB card (no one will EVER need more VRAM than that!)

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/08/05 12:14:44 (permalink)
enewtMy first gaming platform was the Apple ][e.

Edit: Thanks for these stories.  Please keep them coming.  This is so much better than just working in the salt mines of queue purgatory.

I had an Apple ][e in the 80s. It had a dual 5.25" floppy drive, color display, and Apple pin-drive printer. My parents were teachers and got a steep discount on it but even then the whole thing probably cost about the same as a new car. At first I wasn't allowed to touch the computer and it was in a locked room in the house. As I got older they relented, realizing that computers were the future. I recall playing some text-based RPGs like The Hobbit and the Zork series. I recall Mystery House added very simple graphics to the text-based adventure (and I never did solve the murder). Then there were the "graphics heavy" games like Choplifter, South Pacific Quest, a turn-based RPG called Ali Baba, the usual school classics (we actually had a computer lab with Apple ][e) like Number Munchers, Oregon Trail, Odell Lake, and Rocky's Boots, then finally Sublogic's original Flight Simulator. I even got pretty good at BASIC.

Our next Apple computer was an oddball, the Performa 640CD which had a daughterboard with a 486DX2 which allowed you to switch between Mac and PC without the need for any emulation. That allowed me to play Mac and PC games like Doom, Rise of the Triad, Wolfenstein, and the Marathon series. Fun fact: I was a Marathon map designer and helped two of its major 3rd party mods EVIL and Tempus Irae (any vidbois here?).

I would follow the Flight Simulator series through almost every title it had to present. I was so enamored with it that I actually went to school for commercial aviation. The 3080 Ti I picked up here was to help feed that tradition. I'm sure when my son is old enough I'll get him flying in flight simulator like I did almost 40 years ago.

This comment gave me an old TV ad flashback.  I recall Bounty paper towel ads where they would wipe up a spill and there would be nothing there and it would be shown side-by-side with the evil LeAdInG bRaNd of paper towels who was still dripping all over the place.  My mind is sadly imagining an EVGA logo in place of Bounty.

Any idea how long it may take EVGA to respond to my email?
I was literally on the road all day yesterday and arrived at my destination with minutes to spare until my 8 hours were up.
Then to get hung up in the address verification part of ordering, only to refresh the page and have the link no longer working was extremely frustrating.

I would go ahead and give them a call since you've already replied to the email (+1.888.881.EVGA (3842)).  If they don't have inventory in that card today, it will likely be a day or XXX before they can send you a new invite to purchase email.
