Yeah, I wonder if it's because too many people at once for the email thing or if they are doing maintenance? Let's hope it's not too many people buying through email. Because if it is, everything is going to get slowed down considerably for everyone else waiting in line.

Everyone here is praising EVGA for this checkout process, meanwhile im a bit confused. How exactly does this stop bots or scalpers? If i were a scalper, i would just make 15 emails (in fact, i probably already would have 15 emails, because that sounds like something a scalper would have), and sign up for notify 15 times using bots. I mean, i guess its good that the server doesnt die when new cards come out - now it will just die when their pages go up so you can sign up for notifying. Note that i am NOT knocking on evga. This is still better than old setup. Im just genuinely confused as to why the internet treats this as some kind of magic solution to everything?

llStripesll First of all, Awesome work! Couple of questions: 1) I can't verify whether my auto-notify is activated. Might put some people at ease (would be better to link it to your account's subscriptions) "(...) it will go by your earliest entry, so you can sign up again just to be sure." src: Jacob's twitter 2) As a result, I think I pressed that button a couple of times over the last few weeks, including this day. Which sign up day will it pick? "(...) it will go by your earliest entry, so you can sign up again just to be sure." src: Jacob's twitter 3) You mention you have 5 hours to buy the card.. I hope this means people in other timezones (europe) won't receive an email at 2am local time? 4) I assume this system is also in place for European customers? 5) What happens if you miss the link/email. Will you re-join the queue? Best! //edit: editting in answers I found/received
They said other regions will get the system once it's tested on the U.S. store, so yeah, probably going to get emails in the middle of the night - it's not your region so that's all on you. I'm surprised they even ship cards from the U.S. to anywhere else but the US, especially since EVGA is a U.S. company anyway. If you miss the link, you should resign-up anyways, but there's a good chance you'll be thrown to the back of the line because Jacob/EVGA already said to just ignore emails for the cards you no longer want (say you get an email for 3080 black but want to hold out for XC3), meaning timeout is the only way to pass on cards and since that's the case timeout is basically going to mean the same as "no thanks."

This isn't about emails - it's about when you signed up for the notifications. Obviously a scalper would go straight to the end of the line if they just signed up for notifications now. EVGA is doing this for those of us who have been legit trying to buy these cards for ourselves but keep getting screwed by bots. We're already signed up for the notifications since weeks ago and so we are at or near the front of the line. Scalpers and bots can't do anything to cheat their way to win now. EVGA has made it so that real people who actually have been trying to buy these cards, will now be able to. Fantastic, genius move by EVGA.

Hi just for clarification - Does this mean there will be no more normal "drops" on the website and that all purchases done though EVGA.com will come though this queue? Or will stock continue to also be made available through the traditional method concurrently? Thank you.

I failed to read ahead that those who already signed-up earlier had been grandfathered in - I registered again as soon as I saw 'sign-up' will my subsequent registration put me further back in the queue if I had already registered previously? I'm a little worried

I'm talking about the auto-notify button on the eu store page. I'd assume they are/will be using the same system. So it would be nice to know if/when Europe can expect the same system and whether I should be worried I can receive an email in the middle of the night.

As I was told when I asked the same question. It does grandfather those who signed up for auto notify earlier before the program. Over 40 pages long I don't blame you for asking.

I don't think I ever bothered to use the notify feature after so many reports of emails not going out or not going out fast enough anyway. :( I know we can't know our position, but any way of telling us how many total people are in the queue as of now?

I really don't remember anymore. I know at some point I basically just stopped using auto notify across all websites because the emails either never came at all or came after they were sold out anyway. I REALLY hope I just don't remember I signed up at some point right after they were available or else I'm waaaaaay down the list at the bottom now... :(

I assume EVGA already has been checking to see if an order has been made by a bot, but theoretically this can give them even more time to do various checks on an account.

Yeah, because it was bonky and never actually worked. Now you get an email when you actually get a card.

Because you need 15 separate e-mail addresses and 15 separate Home Address to actually get the item. 1 card (per part#) per household. Lots of requirements to get one. Then you also have to realize there are a TON of existing people who used the auto-notify , so bots have 0 access to those existing. Anything new goes to the back of the line anyways.

With this system, it doesn't matter. We're all going to get a guaranteed opportunity to buy a card. Only the most desperate, impatient and foolish of people would buy from a scalper instead of EVGA at this point.

It's unlikely scalpers bothered with notification emails because bots bypass all that crap anyway, so the only scalpers will be legit customers eying the rising prices on Ebay and going dark side, or those like some have already mentioned who already have a card elsewhere but are now in a position to get another from EVGA. The actual fulltime scalper and bots won't have direct access to the cards, they'll be in a lengthy queue behind tons of normal people. That's why it's a magic solution. It's just not practical or effective for scalpers, since it's likely they didn't bother with notifications and have no idea how long it'll take to get a card. This way, no one needs to compete against bots or people who have nothing better to do than sit there f5ing or running scripts 24/7. You just wait... and eventually you will get your turn, and there's nothing botters or scalpers can do about it. This indirectly acts as a release valve for scalpers too, since people "feel" they "have" a card and will wait instead of becoming stupidly desperate and buying one at double price because they feel they have no other options but waiting til next year. Of course, this won't last if it turns out EVGA is sliding out like 10 cards a week, but yeah... At this point it's just all a dice roll. EVGA says October is when tons of stock is coming in and then Nvidia's own CEO pretty much said if you don't have a card now SOL because it's going to be no man's land for 3+ months, and then he winked at all the scalpers who then sent him thank-you letters for confirming that they'll be able to safely corner the market for at least another 3 months.
