They're referring to a post on the Nvidia Subreddit but OP in that post doesn't actually specify where they got the 3080 Black. I assume they got it from a retailer though, not the queue.

Does anyone know if the step-up program is a long wait? Would like to step up to anything better than a 3060 but not sure if that queue will be just as long.
Step up to the 3090 is super fast. I was in the queue for 3 days. The complete process took about 2 weeks. I got my RTX 3090 last week. I heard the step up to the 3080 is 6-7 months....
I originally did not even consider the step-up program because, I was so certain that a regular que for a 3090 would get to me sooner than a step-up que. Your post, if true, proves my assumption flat wrong. As such, I immediately put in for a step-up to step my 3060 up to a 3090. I mean, there are some disadvantages. I do not know if you can use a coupon code on a step-up purchase, and if I use my coupon code on a 3090 it will deduct almost the cost of the 3060, meaning I do not 'save' anything by doing a step-up if I cannot apply the coupon to the step-up. It would make sense that you could not use the coupon code, because a step-up is a subcategory of RMA, it is like I bought the wrong product in error, and so I would not be able to use a coupon I got after I made the purchase, sense I am replacing that purchase. Also, I would rather have a pre-waterblocked card, as that would save the hassle of installing an aftermarket water block. Some have posted on this forum their cards bricking when doing that. EVGA will RMA it for you if that happens, but that is another period I would be out the card. You can, however, only step-up to air cooled cards. Anyway, I'll see what happens. If my place in the 3989 comes up first, I'll jump on that and try to cancel the step-up.

There might be a glimmer of hope here in the UK. One of our retailers who have been overcharging for all the graphics card lately have stock of RADEON RX 6700 . 10+ of most versions. Price has also fell but still overcharging so there is hope that the miners have their cards and it might be starting to level out. Looking on Fleabay most of the cards are settling down in price now. Still massively overpriced but most not selling it seems. Could this be the light at the end of the tunnel. You're seeing EVGA stock at stores.. from what I understand, there is a set amount of stock that EVGA has contracts to provide to stores, this is not part of the stock set aside for EVGA.com's own web store they sell directly to customers.

EVGA it looks like has to send a % or a set amount to retailers. Contracts made before the shortages, and scalping, lack of silicon, and COVID hit. So we get what is left, after they set a % aside for RMAs. <rant> The kicker for me was when they sold at least 100 cards to LTT and his verified gamer stunts. Forcing folks to have to watch every video, join up for his float plane, and so on. Even selling cards at 20% under cost he would still make profit from sponsor, views, and float plane subs. As EVGA can not short retail, those cards came from elsewhere. But PR is king these days, looking nice to many, while knowing we have waited months so we are not leaving. EVGA set the queue up which was great, better than most, for folks like me no where near a Micro Center, really about our only choice. But every new queue, no info on ones that have not moved since launch day, more effort on doing gaming streams than info to folks still waiting, that all wears on folks. We get a half hearted quote every few weeks, that is about it. Causes the salt to rise a bit, in chat here. <rant off> SO EVGA is still the best of the worse if you can not get to a Micro Center :) But we will get a chance at a reduced function card for the same or costing more soon, so Yea Us.

With the 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti "opportunity"/"debacle" fast approaching I "eagerly await"/"cringe in horror" for a chance at a fresh queue.
I think we might as well start referring to them as the 3080 TsunamI and the 3070 TsunamI.

The kicker for me was when they sold at least 100 cards to LTT and his verified gamer stunts.
Forcing folks to have to watch every video, join up for his float plane, and so on.
Even selling cards at 20% under cost he would still make profit from sponsor, views, and float plane subs.
As EVGA can not short retail, those cards came from elsewhere.
But PR is king these days, looking nice to many, while knowing we have waited months so we are not leaving.
EVGA set the queue up which was great, better than most, for folks like me no where near a Micro Center, really about our only choice.

I couldn't agree more! If Linus was willing to donate all of the money he made from each of these video stunts to purchasing GPUs for real gamers, it would be a different story. Otherwise, it was just a way to pad his pockets. I was furious the whole time these videos were going on--thinking... these are GPUs that should have gone to the queue.
