I can't wait to get the 1500 with 4-way SLI on the new kepler's I just hope the new cards don't drain more power then that or i'd be a sad panda.

I doubt it, four GTX480s won't max a Silverstone Strider

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7epu4oEQVR4&feature=channel_video_title

And this PSU is in all likelyhood more efficient due to it being classified as 80+ Gold, contra the Strider 80+ Silver.

are we 100% sure that the power usage on the new keplers will be lower then the gtx480's though?

Nothing can be said for certain as the cards haven't been released yet. Logically they should consume less power because they are based on a die shrink of 28 nanometer, where-as the 480s are based off of 40 nanometer
development.

Meaning the coming 600 series will in theory produce less heat and use less power. Even if they were identical to the 480s, it still wouldn't max out the powersupply. So if you're intention is to run quad sli, then you're in the clear regardless.

Yeah all good points, unfortunately the x79 classy board only has 2 usb 6gb ports or i[d run like 4-6 SSD's in RAID0 just to soak up more power MWAHAHAHA

The built-in RAID controller will limit your speeds once you move past 2 M4s or faster drives.

ahh I didn't even think about that, with the x79 board isn't there still room for an add on raid controller?

Oh sure, that's not a problem. It gets really expensive really quickly, though.

The LSI 9265-8i is a common favorite for multiple SSDs.

It's a new architecture, so all bets are off.  A die shrink of a current architecture guarantees less power consumption.  However, this is a new architecture using a new process.....so it's possible it could use more power.  I speculate it power consumption will remain about the same.

Given an SSD drive consumes about 5w under load, I don't think adding a few extra drives is going to worry that PSU!

Hey Jacob,

Can we get more info as to when to expect the 1500w version? (or at least a decent review from, say, Hard OCP?)

Thanks in advance:)

My guess would be no, it would void the warrenty. Who knows what else people may do while "cleaning" the fan.

I know that you are planning that but for somebody to go out and mod their PSU to make more power would be unsafe and dumb lol. Then again... There are those kinda people out there!

Simple solution: Use more than one PSU. There are cases out there that hold 2 PSUs. A wall socket can only pump out so much power based on certain regulations. Might as well share the load on multiple sockets.

Share the load on different circuits, not outlets, homes have multiple sockets on the same circuit.
