The 1000W unit is based on the FSP Aurum Pro platform.

FSP Aurum Pro 1200W

I wonder if it's any good.

Aurum Pro is supposed to be the bee's knees.  FSP is getting serious in the high end enthusiast market it seems.

Corsair 650D   -  i5 3570K @ 4.6GHz  -  Corsair H80i  -  MSI Z77 M-Power  -  16GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator Platinum
WD 1TB Caviar Black x2  -  OCZ 120GB Vertex2 SSD  -  Corsair HX620  -  GTX285 SSC  -  Samsung T240  -  DIR-655

And just when I was about to pick up a Seasonic Platinum... hope this gets to JonnyGuru quick!

Hmmmm, what use would a 1,500 watt PSU be? To power all 5 of your computers with a single PSU, each of which run dual-8 core Xeons, quad-SLI, and 15 SSDs in RAID-0? XD

MSI Z87 G45 | Intel i5 4670K @ 4.0 GHz | 32 GB 1866 G-Skill RAM | nVidia GeForce GTX 1080 SC | Samsung 1TB 850 EVO | Dell U2718Q & Dell P2715Q | Still on Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit

Planned Upgrades:
Samsung 2TB or 4TB SSD
2nd Dell U2718Q
Windows 10 Pro

well on an sr-2 build, 2 highly overclocked 5690's can draw as much as 300w each. 4 580 classified ultras can draw 400w each. so you are already over what a 1500w psu can supply. I would imagine that the top overclocking testers like kingpin know exactly what is needed to get the most out of this setup and that is why that 1500 'overclocks to 16whatever to provide a single psu solution for the extream benchmarker.

I don't know, 'max load' of a 2500K and SLI 580 GTXs use 650 watts, hardly 400 watts for each GPU.

Though I'm just being silly, I know there are uses out there for one that powerful.

Yes, but when you overclock in combination of overvolting the GPU power consumption jumps up considerably.  A highly overclocked SB-E 6-core + 3 overvolted and OC'd GTX 580 Classified cards can easily draw more than 1200W.  Such users are .1% of the market.

im talking about custom bios on the 580x4 with liquid nitro. kingpin does that sort of thing. i can get my dual 5672's to pull 400 total from the wall on standard water. havnt tryed a a 580 classy ultra though I have read 400 happens when way overclocked.

think about this though. 7 years ago if I told you I was getting an 850 watt power supply, people would say the same as you just did about the 1500:) some psu are waranty for 7 years.

but I understand your point.

Not me. Just poking fun at the idea of a PSU that powerful, but I know all about it. Never have I judged anyone that put a 1000 Watt PSU in their computer. Except those that put it in a computer that honestly only needed a 300 watt PSU, but I kept an open mind about their needs. Perhaps they wanted to make sure they had the power when they upgraded. *shrug* I had a 750 Watt before it blew up :( Then downgraded to a 500 Watt. Then back up to a 700 Watt to handle a GPU upgrade (because the 500 watt didn't have the amps needed to push it, and kept shutting down).

I wonder exactly what my power draw would be.  I run the AX1200 for 3 overvolted and oc'ed 580's, and a healthy 4.8 OC on my SB.  I am waiting to throw those cards in my new SBE setup.  I think I might jump on the bandwagon with this new EVGA 1500 watter if reviews are good.

Edit:  But doesn't a unit perform better if it isn't taxed to 80 percent of maximum output or something like that?  I mean if you run a 1500 watt unit for a system that only draws say, 1000 watts, won't you get better efficiency than running a 1200 watt unit?

Well after todays upgrade I just justified a 1500w PSU by adding my Fourth video card to my folding/ gamming rig.

My poor AX1200 is pulling +/- 1,200w from the wall when running F@H on all four GPU's + CPU SMP.

Yup, just played BF3 and my 12v drops down to 11.6v while on Ultra and 11.76v on Medium according to E-Leet, this is a brand new AX1200 mind you

It all depends on the unit.  If 1200W is working and there are no issues, then there is no worry running it at 80% of it's rated output.  Generally PSU's are most efficient when running at 55-70% of their rated output.....each psu having it's own sweet spot.

I hope its only a month or two away... i really need the 1500w unit to relive my AX1200..... I just re-tested some stuff and its pulling just about 1,150w from the wall at a rate of 88% efficiency, so my actually usage out of the 1200w = 1,012w with the +12v @ 11.52v minimum under 95% load, this is a little to close to minimum 12v spec of 12.4v and the constant max load of 1200w(only 188w left) and nothing in my rig is Overclocked at all
These power reading were pulled while Folding on all four GPU's + SMP, so while in game usage would be slightly more do to high DDR5 RAM usage on the GPU's.

You used a multimeter to get those readings right? EVGA E-Leet, or any software for that matter isn't accurate.

Seems like an amazing PSU that 1500w model!.
Do we know if it will find its way to Europe or is it just limited to the US?

Straighted it out, some how my Nvidia settings got messed up, and was forcing the wrong rendering mode.

Thanks for the info EVGA_NickM.
By the way, the 1500w version seems awfully long. Could you give us the dimensions? I'm contemplating getting a TJ11 from Silverstone, is there a chance it will fit in this case?

Would also be interested in this.

I'm looking forward to a review of the 1500w, I don't suppose anyone could hint towards what kind of warranty will follow these?

I'll buy one when it comes to Europe. I don`t need 1500W but it looks cool.

I doubt it, four GTX480s won't max a Silverstone Strider

And this PSU is in all likelyhood more efficient due to it being classified as 80+ Gold, contra the Strider 80+ Silver.
