feniks

you most likely won't be able to install OS from a CD or onto HDD connected to one of Marvel SATA III ports (1st row of red ones on top) and Windows installer doesn't know divers for it.

you can use any other port (black or red) as all the rest is connected to Intel PCH (Z77) and so will run normally without drivers.

Thanks for the speedy reply feniks. I guess I'll try an OS install on a HDD using one of the SATA II black ports.

Cheers

Hello all, I am new to overclocking and I am going to attempt to overclock my 3770K this weekend.  The only part in the guide I am not 100% sure of (and understand) is the memory settings.  I am not sure what to do, or what to put there.  The memory I have is:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM (PC3 12800)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Temps in OCCT test is preaty similar temps under LinX.
I want to leave 5h but I need comp in the morning

I change MAX temp on 100C to stop test.
Internal PPL is enable. OK I'm preaty sure I have 4.6-4.7GHz stable CPU only when new RAM arrives I hope soon to see what happens than and how much I can to work stable with 2x4GB faster memory.  This and test before was for CPU stability, yes with all RAM but ...

Hello Jacob awesome job with this tutorial you really help a lot thanks for the time dedicated...

Wich bios you were using for this test? 1.07 or 1.10

CPU: i7 2700K.
MOB: EVGA Z77 FTW - BIOS 1.10.

MEM: GSKILL TRINED X - PC3 19200 F3-2400C10D-8GTX.
GPU: EVGA GTX 480 OC.
PSU: CORSAIR HX1000.
HDD: WD CAVIAR BLUE 250GB IN RAID0 MODE.
CPU COOLER: CORSAIR H80.

1) MEN ISSUES DON'T REACH 2400MHZ EVEN DON'T RECOGNIZE ANY XMP PROFILES, STAY LIKE DON'T BEEN SELECT ANY OF TWO PROFILES OPTIONS.
2) DOWNCLOCKING OF CPU, ALWAYS REMAIN IN 35X EVEN IF I CHANGE MANUALLY AND PUT ANY VALUE (36X,37X...40X) SAVE AND EXIT, THEN BOOT SYSTEM ENTER ON BIOS AND AGAING SHOWS 3500MHZ.

Hello Phily there a few post that explain how but i will give a little help:

1) Instal you're memory modules.
2) Go to bios in to this path overclocking-memory configuration-memory frequency limiter=1600 (if i no mistake 12800 model runs at 1600mhz), let the rest in auto (this is not the only way but this mobo automatically adjust the timings when boot, either you can proof with the XMP profiles you're memory support) then back to overclocking-memory configuration and set DIM voltage control to 1650 (this means 1.65V you have to check the specs of you're memory first to avoid damage).
3) Finally save and exit, i hope this can help you and other fellows. For more i leave one guide made by Jacob one really experience member:

Re:EVGA Z77 FTW Quick Overclocking Guide 2012/09/29 12:51:29 (permalink)
I hope someone can help me out.  I recently built up a new EVGA Z-77 with the i7 3770K, 16 gb of Corsair CMZ16GX3M4X2133C11R memory and a GTX-580.  It has worked flawlessly for a month now and very pleased with it.

I am grossly under-qualified to do overclocking but I thought I would try using Jacob's guide.  I was very successful until I got to the memory parameters.  I have no idea what settings I should be putting in for the memory set that I have.

I guessed at some settings (not having a clue what I am doing) and several programs worked just fine in Windows 7 64 bit but a couple of others kept giving me errors.  Resetting the CMOS solved those problems so I am guessing that I am not setting the memory parameters correctly.

Sorry for being such a newbie but I just don't understand the 9-9-9 etc. and what settings to put into the BIOS.

Re:EVGA Z77 FTW Quick Overclocking Guide 2012/09/30 18:03:22 (permalink)
So and you have RAM problem and of course again 4 sticks.
I can't see from this pictures like your RAM work on 1333MHz I think.
When no screenshot on software than best way is Printscreen >
Paint type CTRL+V Save As PNG File, open that with Microsoft Office Picture Manager and Crop only software. Save than and open some program like Imgur, upload that little file and you have Insert Edit Image. Than show only that and picture is bigger.

Try XMP 1 to load, if you can't load XMP1 you must try manual first to boot on 1600 than on 1866 ... you must to look on your memory specification too. Latency for your memory are
11-11-11 27. On lower speed you can probably to set less latency but on higher maybe you need to set manual more higher latency. I think best way for you because that is Vengance...don't tuch latency. Try how much speed you can, first with XMP 1, that manual. That is not some super speed super overclocker RAM, that's excellent RAM for daily use but our board have problems with much better RAM, people can't set memory in specification for 4 modules.
2133MHz 11-11-11 27 2T is some ideal set for your RAM.
If XMP fail than you must Manual to set same if it's unstable than lower 1866,...

Hopefully these images are better.  I do not understand a lot of the terms such as XMP 1 etc.

Sorry I am so new to this, perhaps I should not be messing around with overclocking with my lack of knowledge.

Re:EVGA Z77 FTW Quick Overclocking Guide 2012/10/01 19:09:17 (permalink)
Yes your memory work now only on 1333MHz.
Your memory support XMP. That mean you maybe don't need to tweak every option, with XMP auto set fabric voltage, frequency and timmings. I say maybe because sometimes people have problem to boot Windows with XMP. Than you need manual to start to OC RAM.
Every RAM after clear CMOS work on 1333MHz, XMP is short way to load factory settings for you model that is 2133MHz speed with latency 11-11-11 27 I think.

In BIOS under Overclocking section you have Memory Configuration (first on list on the top) go in and again first on list you have Performans Memory Profil with User Defined option(default). Inside that option you have XMP Profiles.
You need to select that, ESC two times and Save settings and ty to boot Windows.

Edit:  I finally had to call EVGA tech support.  They had me switch to the second BIOS on the switch and all is normal now.  I won't try overclocking again until I am more qualified.

Vlada011

Thanks for trying to help me.  I have not had time to get back to it until now.  But obviously I am not qualified to be messing around with this.  I messed it up so bad that windows would no longer boot.  I reset the CMOS, restored defaults, saved (F10) and restarted but windows still would not boot after multiple tries.

I am currently loading a backup and hopefully that will get things back to normal.

I will give up on it until I am better qualified for this.

Thanks again

John

Never mind John but after clear CMOS BIOS should load default settings, never mind if you can't boot because wrong OC setting.
You only try to load RAM fabric specification. You didn't do anything wrong.

This guide is great, however, my CNPS12X isn't performing like I thought it would, or my thermal pasting job was not good enough.

With prime95, stock settings, I get around 80c with prime95...

Once overclocked, in a few seconds of prime95 and my temps  jump 100c degrees.  It has me seriously considering watercooling...

I have about 70-72C with Prime95 on stock, you can count that is H100, temps with Zalman are higher.
How much you OC??? 4.4-4.5GHz it's possibile 100C.
I have 80C with probably best cooler on world or one of three best.
My advice for 3570k and special for 3770k is H80(push-pull), H100, Phanteks,
Silver Arrow, Noctua NH-D14 and custom watercooling. It's not CPU to play and choose cooler like on Sandy Bridge.

@Jacob
I have nearly the same build as the one shown in this guide. The only difference is I'm running 2 evga 670 FTW's instead of the 680 in the picture. So if I follow this guide, step by step, this presumably should work without ANY hickups, and kick my computer to a 4.6ghz overclock right?

I've never OC'd before, so I'm kind of nervous to just jump into the bios and start changing stuff I'm not familiar with on my 3000 dollar gaming computer, that I am NOT in the mood to troubleshoot or RMA if I screw something up lol :P

Edit: Also, how might I go about pushing those 670's a little harder? They're at their stock clocks.

New* Prime95 27.9 Build 1 show up...

http://www.techpowerup.co...owthread.php?p=2800349

Maybe someone know but ....

I make mistake next time when new motherboards show up I will make one place only for new drivers and softwares for that motherboard, everything necessary and all updates will post on that place...SATA, chipset, audio, RST, .... because now updates are scattered all over forum.

Followed the quick setup from Jacob and got an easy 4.6 on my 3570k. Looking forward to playing with the setting further seeing how far I can push it on water.  :)

That is not possibile!!! If you see my is same.
You can raise in ELEET under Overlocking BCLK from 100.0 to 100.3 with slider than Bus Speed 100MHz but than problems starts
Freezing in games, on desktop, driver stop working....

If you have lucky you have finished some test and show 5000MHz but that's it.
Problems will start soon or after restart... and only way is to back on 100.0 and 99.7 reading.

Cannot sustain ~ 4.9GHz (air, H100i) for the life of me - managed the following with the below settings:

+ followed Jacob's guide to a tee.

Additional settings altered:

→ Changed VSA to 1270
→ Changed following power settings:
IA Core Current Max(1/8 AMP): 2040
Power Limit 1 Value(1/8 WATT): 2040
Power Limit 2 Value(1/8 WATT): 2040
Long Duration Power Limit: 255
Long Duration Maintained: 120
Short Duration Power Limit: 255

Halp plx.

4.9GHz is high clock. I can't too, but I have high temps.
I can't imagine temps on 1.400V with my CPU.
