I could leave that one chip alone... and it won't look like a duck.  That random chip makes the block jet out over an inch to cover it, making it look like a duck bill to me.

If it benefits cooling, by all means, cool it.  But a duck themed water block would be kinda fowl imho (sorry, pun intended).

see:

it is super cramped in that space, I still don't know if I can pull it off.  The CPU block will dictate everything on how far in that CPU block outlined in the board i can go into.

Yeah, I see what you mean, I will try and get a pic for you, or a measurement for the block.

Something is wrong with this forum. Can't reply to your PM, the edit box is just.... gone.

Same here on forum until a moment ago, when this quick reply box finally showed up.

Short answer is, thank you for the reply but my pocketbook can't handle that purchase right now. :(

You pic covers a LOT less than the original HS does, nothing else overly important in that area then?

yup.  Fits in the palm of your hand.  Not much larger then a tic-tac box... minus the "duck bill."  the factory heatsink only covers the SB chip and that one chip the duckbill is covering.  The plastic top won't go out like the duckbill.

Just a rough idea.  I am not sure I can pull this off until I see a CPU block on the board.

wont it be hard to get fitting in there with the memory and the vid card?

That does look  VERY tight. I'm using a EK Supremacy block.

If a little bit of light airflow is all that's needed to cool it. I'll probably give that one a miss. Looks to be a lot of work, and more tube routing for very little gain.

Although I've always wanted a 'duck' incorporated into my PC somewhere...

The block goes on first.  No troubles at all.  When Dave posts the pics of that block on the board, then we will see what we are working with.  I have packed it as tight as possible, so if the waterblock doesn't go to crazy with the mounting, then I have some wiggle room and its 100% possible.

Right now I am working on fixture plates.

This has nothing to do with the block, but this is a before, and after with nothing but surface finish:

Very sexy...

Looks great, I think the SB block would be nice to have since if you touch that block while the pc is running its quite warm but I will agree its going to be a tight fit and running the tubing to them are going to be even worse.

I would be interested in the blocks either way though, I have a quad ut60 cooling just my CPU and I feel the need to add more things into the loop.  Ill send you a PM once I have 10 posts!

If this is the case:

then I think we will be juuuuuust fine and I have some breathing room by the CPU hold down. Either way, a picture of the block installed goes a looooong way.

I bet if we used the LGA 1366 water blocks it would help fit

I am just worried about the amount of material by the cpu hold down.  The apogee block doesn't have a lot of material there, so it should be ok.  Dave has some calipers in any case.

NateMan, I emailed you pics , but between the Apogee HD and where the reference block sits, it is 0.160 inch.

Looks like we can move forward with a prototype for a chipset block.  Who would be interested in that?

Re:EVGA X79 DARK WATERBLOCK 2013/09/12 09:37:57 (permalink)
Nate, why don't you make the Delrin top for the block over sized similar to the shape
of the stock heat sink and have the duck shaped block underneath?
EK have done this with a few of their blocks.
That way it would look a hell of a lot better and it means you could engrave the EVGA 'E'
on the top of it similar to the stock heat sink. That would be awesome.
I'm interested in a block but not really keen on the Duck shape.
I'd be happy to pay more just for aesthetic reasons.

I'd be down for a chipset block...Even if it ends up that I couldn't use it with whatever CPU block my system builder chooses I'll still buy one.

Its a pretty small block:
I wouldn't worry to much about the shape, most of it is covered by video cards anyway.
