4.0 1.37v bios and the same above settings.

prime large i drop to 1.26-1.27 and 3.5ghz to 3.8ghz

without vdroop. Other settings coming. temps are 94-100 right now and I don't like it(not good for folding) :(

Thanks, rickss69.
I followed your screen shots and sure enough it was right on. I don't know to much about over clocking, so that really helped. It would really be cool if you (or anyone else) could do the same, but maybe with a core speed around 3.2 to 3.6 . I'm not sure about running this all the time. My temp's are around 27-28C at idle, so that seems good. I was thinking of overclocking my video card too. Not sure if I would get that much out of it in most games (running one 5870 card).

Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know that one of the reasons I bought a EVGA motherboard is because of all the support her in the forums. I was reading through them way before I built this computer and I like what I was reading.

Thanks: EVGA
Thanks: For all the Q&A form everyone in the forum!

Good to hear Alpha - In gaming you won't see any improvement with a high cpu clock...I suggest no more than 4GHz. Adjust your vcore and vtt voltages down as well...that will improve temps.

Thanks a ton rickss69!

I couldn't get past 3.8 before but now running smooth at 4.2 (H50 water)

I have issues with CPUZ and CPUZ resource monitor not responding but everything (including p95) runs just fine.
I think maybe too much voltage on the sensors.

You should'nt have any problem with that...DL the latest versions and it should work fine.

If you are using my bios screens you must have a really good air cooler or be water cooled. Lower your vcore and vtt and shoot for 4GHz first.

This guide originally started out with the CO - The DO will be the same with the exception of voltages needed. Refer to the post above ^.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt +300VTT dangerous also? My Classified reads Vtt stock at 1.23 with a multi meter (1.2V in bios), if I put 300MV into that's 1.53V, way over the recommended intel spec and what everyone on the forums says.

the I7 930 and 975 have been able to handle those voltages but it is rumored that the 980x will not be able to handle above 1.4 for long periods

Could not help but notice all the questions here. When this guide was written I'm sure it was with the 920 CO chip. Here are some bios screens that should get all with the 920 DO's in the ball park...

This should be fine for good air coolers and most water cooled set-ups. Once up and running don't be afraid to experiment and start to bump the vcore and vtt down...temps should follow.

what speed should you aim for with just using the standard intel cooler that comes with the cpu

I'm running a i7 920 on a X58 board. Great guide to overclocking, sitting at 4.2ghz with no system hangups. When I run Prime95 the temps shoot up close to 100 pretty quick. Any adjustments I can make to help? Thanks in advance.

Re:EVGA X58 Overclocking Guide 2010/04/13 13:41:09 (permalink)
Hi Jacob (and others !)
I know computers very well but this would be my first overclock.

I wanted to ask 3 quick questions:

1 - Can I use this guide to make a first overclock attempt on this system:
EVGA x58 e760 classified board, i7 930, 6gb (3x2g) Corsais Dominator GT pc3 1280 1600hmz ram 7-7-7-20, CMG6GX3M3A1600C7
(I'm omiting unimportant crap (psu, drives etc.) and I have appropriate cooling and ventilation
(megahalem with 2x 90cfm fans in a HAF 932)
2 - Will the memory related settings in this profile match up with my ram ? or cause problems
3 - can you recommend mem settings to optimise my ram freq etc based on this setup ?

Thank you all in advance

For all of the posts above...you can use my bios screens but I recommend you shoot for no more than 4GHz initially if using air coolers. Drop the vcore and vtt voltages a bit and run the remainder of the settings as is. Get RealTemp and monitor those temps as you go please.

Sounds like you need to back it down a bit, get better cooling or don't run Prime95. You can try lowering the vcore and vtt which will help...question is, will it still be stable? All you can do is try.

Set your memory to auto to begin with. Once your OC is stable and temps look appropriate, then go back into bios and manually set your timings and begin tweaking.

No more than 4GHz at the very most...and keep an eye on those temps! I recommend stepping up to a better HSF if overclocking in general.
