Issues?

everyone BIOS post people, ask if S3 is fixed, if it isn't then people just say BIOS fails.

Does S3, keep your pc from working?, no
Is it something so important, that you HAVE too have it?, no

If you don't have it able will your pc have complete meltdown and blow up?, no.

Too me S3 isn't that important, and don't see how it ever can be.

@_Blackheart: That doesn't mean that the problem is not there. There are a number of people suffering from S3 issues. Just do a quick search here.

Its fun when you don't face the issue that others are suffering from...isn't it? I am glad it works for you though!

I believe he's smiling because you telling him to do a quick search here but you linked him to his own profile.

That was a copy paste error...Sorry!

Blackheart: what's important for someone is subjective! For me S3 is super important because it helps me save electricity (and many would say, planet!). An overclocked system should always be turned off when not needed. S3 solves that problem efficiently because 0.) Its a complete shutdown of the system, just RAM is powered. 1.) it brings up my desktop in seconds, 2.) I don't lose any sessions or any applications which I was running before I put the system to sleep. You probably can't appreciate the usefulness of being able to  use your session without having to restart your applications, but I am a developer and I do.

Well like I said, I use Windows 7 sleep mode. 10 mins after I goto bed, my pc powers down.

Only thing I can see on is my flashing E on my classified and the mobo lights.
When I wake up in morning, I just tap my keyboard and it wakes up where I left off. Which normally is on EVGA forums.

So the S3 thing is moot.

You are describing S3 and then you are saying S3 is moot.

The thing that you are able to do with tapping of your keyboard, doesn't work on my motherboard. And that's called resuming from S3 sleep. Windows sleep mode is nothing but a wrapper around S3 provided by motherboard's BIOS. Its part of the ACPI spec which all modern motherboards are required to adhere to and implement in BIOS. But Evga gets away without getting it working properly. And on a 300$ motherboard!

I'm not sure but think your are confusing me with someone that cares.

but too make things simple. My S3 in BIOS is turned off. Windows 7 sleep works = I can do same thing, and not really give a crap if S3 is fixed or not.

Maybe if EVGA fixed S3, but made where you have too 5.6 Vcore to run your cpu on stock settings, then S3 may seem less important.

My opinion BIOS is here to help my pc run smoothly, not sleep.

I don't know squat because I don't find S3 to be all that important, Erm that's funny.

But think I'm done, since I was ranting only over same guy posting same thing in every BIOS release.

Just someone wanted to turn it into some sort of debate.

I could care less is if S3 works or not, if does great, if it doesn't, great. I am not going say the BIOS are fail because one thing isn't fix..that idea seems silly.

S3 is awesome to use and to have working. S3 completely turns off the computer and if you set it up to wake up from keyboard all you do is hit a key or move a mouse to wake it up. Much faster than shutting it down and saves energy.

Also you have a Classified like I do and S3 works for us maybe it doesn't work for him cause he has a Regular X58 board. His problems are different then what you have so you shouldn't even be complaining that he keeps posting that cause you don't even own the same motherboard. He paid a premium for EVGA's customer service just like all of us and he has a right to complain if they don't deliver to his standards.

Hey,  S3 isn't world peace, but it is a (claimed) feature of these boards that hasn't worked from day one.  It's a nice power saver and makes for almost instant "boot".  Combined with Win 7 hybrid sleep it would be an excellent feature - if it worked.  I rather suspect there is an underlying hardware issue, like a register that can be written but not read back, so restoring state is a crap shoot.  Or not...

That "windows sleep mode" sounds more like S1.  Saves power about like throwing a towel over your monitor - or maybe just turning it toward the wall :)

On my non-overclocked box some combination of Windows and BIOS updates got S3 mostly working.  It only garbles some eLeet temp readings after 3 sleep wake cycles. It used to crash the machine on wake, or later on next reboot.

I'm not going to complain about S3 on every BIOS update, but put me down as waiting not-so-patiently.

Z.

Same behavior here, when using S3 state.

i don't know... slightly different build here but S3 works just fine here and I'm OC'd 24-7 (see below)

Now I have the BIOS set to S1&S3... keyboard to wake (and I'm using a wireless USB keyboard and mouse)...

I set a keyboard function key to the following command line for "Sleep":

rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

If you want hibernate the command line is:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Hibernate

I have hibernate turned off, however, and also set that with a command line:

powercfg-h off

There's a lot you can see at this site with regard to power configurations...

One more thought on the "Geezer Build" & S3... those RAM timings look pretty tight and S3 is basically a save to RAM... I'd make sure your RAM voltages are set at the MAX for your sticks and that they're NOT oc'd... could be a power issue too, so a bump in the CPU VTT might help...

Hey, thanks for the tips.  Those timings are as-specified for the RAM and RAM voltage is at 1.65, also as specified.  Everything else is  @ auto.

This machine is rock-stable as configured, with the sole exception that system temp becomes nonsensical after a few sleep/wake cycles.  I can live with that, but it is a sign that something still isn't quite right with S3.

BTW, I _think_ S1/S3 is more like napping than sleeping :)

Later,
Z.

S3 issues have nothing to do with timings. Just set the manual vcore (as opposed to Auto vcore) and stock settings (for BCLK, memory timings and voltage as per specs from vendor for stock usage: 8-8-8-24-1T for 1067Mhz for my OCZ Gold series) fail to resume at 3rd attempt. The system reboots instead of resuming. This is with 758 rev 1.1 board.

With Auto vcore, the behavior for me is same as what zoltan described.

S3 problems have to be a board issue. Not a BIOS Issue. S3 has always worked for me (unless my overclock was a little unstable, then it would not resume, click the mouse and screen would stay black, no signal)

For all of you with S3 sleep problems, I feel for you. That would really piss me off, maybe enough to send the entire board back. Have any of you tried tweaking the voltages at stock settings to get S3 to work?

I have been chasing the S3 issue for almost a year now. I have tried every freaking possible combo of voltages and settings (for stock CPU and memory speeds, no overclocking!) but 3rd resume always reboots!

Welcome to the club of missing RAM! I am seeing (and reported) the same issue. Back to SZ50 for me now because my 12GB works very well with that BIOS!

Someone said setting MCH to DRAM worked for them. It was too late for me because I had already reverted to SZ50 by then.

Yet another pass for me.  I want the "perfect" BIOS, lol.  It will most likely be on another board.  No reason to upgrade unless I get a 32nm chip and I don't have a grand to spare right now.

Back to 59 for me, I literally can not boot anything but defaults with this one.

Were there any improvements in 64 over 59?

XXChronicXX

S3 problems have to be a board issue. Not a BIOS Issue. S3 has always worked for me (unless my overclock was a little unstable, then it would not resume, click the mouse and screen would stay black, no signal)

For all of you with S3 sleep problems, I feel for you. That would really piss me off, maybe enough to send the entire board back. Have any of you tried tweaking the voltages at stock settings to get S3 to work?

This used to happen to me with S3 as well, black screen on resume with no signal, until someone on the boards told me to feed my 5870 with two seperate power leads instead of one from my PSU, and that fixed it for me :)

Apparently the file being available was also beta.  Maybe they hit S3 on the server?

No S3?  .... S3?  I mean, they bought this server so it would sleep and do **** else.   That must be it!  Yay!  It works!  We're saved, and the file is gone.

I can confirm this "Dual Channel" listing as it now appears with Beta 70 you must set the MCH manually to the desired setting. I've tested this thoroughly last night with my E760 with other BIOS releases and this is the first time this has occurred as such. I have mine now for the moment set at "DRAM RATIO" and I'm now back to "Triple Channel" and the system works as normal in every respect given this change.

Explain this a little for me?  I've actually had the missing RAM problem since I switched to my x58 mobo (12gb ram 9.99 usable).  It only happens once my BCLK gets to 160+ and I've tried upping/lowering almost any combination of settings you can think of. I haven't had a chance to install this new BIOS yet to see if it fixes my particular issue but if there's more options to fiddle with maybe I can finally get past 3.6 ghz without dropping to 4gbs of RAM.

(By the time I hit 3.8ghz my usable RAM shows 2gb.  I'm afraid to go any further than that. :P )

Edit: In case it helps my RAM kits are 1.6v 9-9-9-24-t2.  I keep seeing everyone's voltage set to 1.65 but my kit specifically says 1.6v max.  Are people pushing the limit or did I just pick bad RAM? http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820231225
