I got this fixed today. i have shown 4g in Bios and OS as well.   So i completely taken my system out into parts and cleaned cpu and re-seated. Now everything its showing 6G.  I was reading 'shockthemonky' that it would be one of three reasons.
1. CPU needs to be reseated (if both bios and os showing 4gb)
2. voltage adjustment
3. msconfig.

mmuthiah

I have updated this BIOS.  I'm still having  "3.99g usable out of 6G" memory issue.   So its not useful for me at least.  I hope they will release a fix for this issue.

g 2 gigs of memory. T

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 70 BETA Released 2010/06/05 09:30:31 (permalink)
Sin e i just received a replacement 965 i have been tinkering to see what its capable of (this is the best 965 i have ever owned and i have owned 3, it came in a new Intel box that shows the die circuitry on the corner of the box but its still says C0/C1 as the stepping.  That said its a004 version and it seems to act like a D0 in regards of overclocking potential and voltages)

Anyway back to the point of this when i had set the memory to DDR3 1866 7-8-7-20 with a BClock of 134 ll the memory showed up but when i upped the BClock to 135, 136, 137 only 4GB was available.  I tried changing voltages etc and reseating the memory but in the end it seems it was the Block.  I tried 1866 with 8-8-8-24 @ vDimm 1.62v + CPU VTT +!00mV but it still only showed 4GB, i upped voltages/loosened timings but the misisng 2GB would not appear.  I eventually tried a BClock of 143 to give my DDR3 2000 8-8-8-24 @ vDimm 1.62v + CPU VTT +100mV, the same settings as i used before but with a higher BClock and to my surprise the 2GB returned so i had a total of 6GB.

So it looks like certain BClocks will make memory drop out, possibly its individual for each CPU and some IMC's dont like certain BClocks.

Thats one other thing to try if your having trouble with memory dropping out, try a different BClock whether its higher or lower. I tried all the usual suggestions and the one about setting the MCH Strap for the Memory, none of them worked but using a different BClock did, as soon as i went back to 135, 136, 137 BClock the 2GB disappeared again, if i set it to 134 or to 143 it would return.

Having to use a different bclock isn't a solution and was the main problem atleast for me. At higher bclocks I would lose the ram like most people and I would also only be in Dual channel..Changing MCH to DramRatio fixed it for me.

Do I lose any performance or anything by having it set to Dram Ratio?

I did trya nd remember what the MCH Strap option was that supposedly fixed this, i tried a few like DDR3 1600, DDR3 1866 but i missed setting it to Dram ratio (it was a half hearted attempt as i didnt have the exact info), i will try again and see if i can use the 135, 136, 137 BClock with Dram Ratio set.

As for loosing performance i dont think so, you can increase performance by choosing a lower strap but Dram Ratio should just mean that it sets the correct Strap for that Memory Frequency, for example if you have DDR3 1600, the Strap will be set to DDR3 1600.  So it shouldnt be a huge deal to have to us this to fix the memory issue.

This is getting promising. Makes me believe that evga screwed up with the BIOS's default settings and/or one of the tens of memory timings other than the common 8-8-8-24-1T style settings.

Screwed up is a bit of a bold statement, more like tweaking and making adjustments which often make sacrifices in one area to make another more efficient. You're forgetting it would seem that this is indeed a beta release and should be taken as such. One could make the argument that all BIOSs are beta but not in the strictest sense. This release is quite solid and is very good with keeping voltages in line more than most any other. I'm sure the techs at EVGA are working out the kinks and are aware of things so have a bit more faith in what they do, they have been good to us and we should be grateful for it.

setting MCH Strap to DRAM Ratio did not work for me, the only thing that brought back the missing 2GB for me was changing the BClock to a different value.

That said its good that it works for others as not everyone has the option to set a different BClock.

Hi...
I just got in hands my new Mobo EVGA X58 SLI Micro and my new processor i7 980X EE. But because I Live in Brazil I don't know the time my local seller acquired this board into his stock. Also I don´t know if this Mobo has already the minimal BIOS to run my this processor.

I need some help here.
Can you tell if this processor will damage if I turn it on with the previous BIOS release before rev44 ? Yet can I proceed the update using this processor or I really need use the a previous one?

Its possible the EVGA to verify in the what BIOS my board was assembled if I send the serial number from my board in private way ?

Thank you.

If you look in-between the 2 Red PCI-E x16 slots (near the middle) you will see the holder for the BIOS chip, it has a sticker on top of it stating which BIOS your board was shipped with

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 70 BETA Released 2010/06/07 07:29:43 (permalink)
If you get memory dropping out, the IMC may not pick it up again with small changes in the BIOS. If any of the previous fast MRC boot or nvram values are retained on a re-boot or small BIOS change, the memory that is missing may not appear.

The only way to get the memory to reappear is to make a major DRAM change in BIOS that forces the IMC to retrain or to reset CMOS from a power down; this will start again with all memory showing. If that fails, power down, remove all DIMM's, clear CMOS, reinstall modules and power up again.

Anything more than this can be down to physical seating issues or at worst a dying memory module.

Later
Raja

Provably this mean the bios version is rev12 right ? hat would be my options to put this board running. I just have the 980x Processor in moment.
Probably if I turn it on could damage it right ?
Exist some place where can I buy this chip and just put in the socket again ?

Thank you

wow that must be the initial BIOS, if you look at the Micro BIOS list it starts at S817, the initial BIOS is not included on that list, that means that the current BIOS would not support your chip and it would likely not POST successfully.  Whether or not it would damage he chip i am not sure, maybe PM raja and ask him if using the 980X in a board with a BIOS that doesnt support it would damage it.

one option is to contact EVGA support and ask if they would kindly send you a BIOS chip with the latest BIOS flashed on it, otherwise the only other option would be to get hold of a Bloomfield (920, 940, 950, 965) and flash using it first.

You will not damage the CPU by trying it out. The sticker on the BIOS socket may say one thing but it may be a different version BIOS inside.
The best way is to try it out!

Another thing that I noticed. I run a BCLK of 200MHz. No matter what I set the RAM Divider to, 2:6, 2:8, 2:10, 2:12, the memory is running at 1600MHz always.

Anyone else noticed that?

Do you have Turbo Performance enabled? this is different to turbo mode and can effect Memory in the way your describing.  Turbo Performance is meant for the 980X also and the trade off for the boost in performance when the CPU is not using all its cores is that the memory runs at slower.

Boost in Performance??? Ha ha.... I enabled it just for giggles. It lowered my memory speed (divider), and I LOST approx 11% in LinX going from 70+ GFlops to 63 GFlops. Anyone else have a better description of exactly how this is supposed to operate? I looked all over the net and I've still not found anything that gave anything in depth.

It wont boost performance in LinX because it loads all cores to 100%, Turbo Performance helps performance when the CPU is no using all 6 cores, say its just using 1 core, Turbo Performance helps the higher Turbo Mode multipliers kick in.

Turbo Performance works in conjunction with Turbo Mode to try and get the most out of your 6 core 12 thread CPU at all times.

Thats atleast what i gathered from my conversations with Shamino about this feature which we were discussing in regards to what looked like a bug which turned out not to be the case.

In most real world scenarios you wont see a performance decrease from running memory at a lower frequency, especially if you off-set it with tighter timings, some benchmarks like memory speed but most real world apps dont really care what speed your memory is at, there are a few exceptions.

Yeah, I also noticed that when running at 1600MHz from 2000MHz. No difference at all at my usual tasks, some Photoshop, gaming, HD Video editing.

Apart from that. This new BIOS gave me quite some extra stability at 4.2GHz with the memory running @ 2000MHz. Before that (I think I had BIOS 44) I had problems above 4GHz and 2000MHZ RAM speed.

Hi guys

Looks like there are many ways to fix the memory to show the full amount. What worked for me was changed the HPET mode( i think that's what it's called) from 32bit to 64bit. Full memory amount showed correctly after that.

Hi Jacob,

What's the RAID ROM version of this BIOS? Is it still 8.0.0.1038? The latest one is v8.9.x.x.xxxx...
If it's 8.0, then why has it not been updated for ages? The new one is much faster.
BIOS 64 still uses the old one...

E757 SLI LE here

When I boot the iso, it asks for the .bin filename for the BIOS update, but if I leave it alone, it says that the entered file does not match my board.

Anyone else tried to flash on the SLI LE?

The reason they stay with the same firmware is because they found the newest breaks support for large raid drive configurations.

XXChronicXX Have any of you tried tweaking the voltages at stock settings to get S3 to work?

Monitor your VREG temp before and after sleep.  Let me know the results.

Try to sleep/wake 10 times in a row.  Let me know the result.

If you can sleep/wake 10 times in a row without a lockup or your VREG temp changing like mad, then it does indeed work perfectly on your machine.  But I have tried on MULTIPLE motherboards (all E758) and they all behave the same.  Some of the people here saying they don't have issues are not even on the E758.

I'd say the VREG temp changing doesn't matter if you can sleep/wake 10 times in a row, thats just a display bug in E-LEET.
