Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 59 Released Sunday, May 02, 2010 7:26 AM (permalink)
i was not able to even test 59, i needed to do a fresh install and updated to 59 and windows 7 x64 would not install, it errored on the formating of the drive. Went through all my raid settings and no go.

After reading about all the 40's and 50's bios updates really being for just the 980x i think im just gonna stay with the s61j for now.

EVGA needs to fix the S3 resume issues. Getting real tired of having to shut down and full start each time i use my PC. Not to start something negative, but these are BASIC's that should work flawlessly... i have never had a that had issues with s3.

Split up your teams and create a separate bios for each processor...

There are many many many posts about the s3 issues, and they show up agian with each bios release. EVGA please put some extra effort into getting it fixed. Please and thank you.

Firmware is good but I have issues with s3 also.

I did clean isntall windows now on each startup after a shutdown i get blue screen of death and corruptions. I do a restart and back to normal, never happened to me before this is first time since the firmware update.

I had this issue too. The problem is lousy programming for the AUTO setting for the "Run VGABIOS if S3 Resume"...I have not tried with ATI, but with Nvidia the programming is WRONG. AUTO will choose the "Yes" option by default instead of the CORRECT selection of "No". Override this and lock-in "No" and you will be good to go with Nvidia (and ATi if the problem is the same). I've tested the default setting with GTX295, GTX285, GTX480, GTX275, 9800GTX+, 9800GT, etc. and the problem is identical. Make this change and you are good to go...

This BIOS has allowed me to boot a 210 bclock something no previous update has done thus far and I was a launch adapter for this vanilla board. Thanks.

Like every BIOS since 41, this BIOS causes my Extreme Vantage GPU score to drop from 22,500 (S61J) to 19000-20000.  I benchmarked these results with all settings at stock, and used the same BIOS settings when testing.

I loaded defaults before flashing, flashed from CD, and loaded defaults afterwards prior to changing any BIOS settings.

975s don't fair well with bios 41-59. I'm on 1J right now and doing fine. 975 is a real picky chip.

Don't know if this is related but....
Do you still have the problem when you resume from S3 that GPU-Z reports a PCI-E speed of the 1.1 standard instead of  the 2.0 standard?
I believe it was mention in a couple of prior releases and I don't know if it was fixed in 59 since I am actually still running 51. When I get home I might try messing with this value to see if it has any effect.

Thanks,

What is strange is that the CPU score is consistent; only the GPU score is showing a drop.  I can't account it for it.  Once I reflash back to S61J the GPU score goes back to normal levels.

Had a bunch of trouble downloading the bios, finally had to use filezilla (L/P as anonymous/anonymous) then "manual transfer" to get the file.  Using Opera/IE/Firefox on Win7.  Kept downloading 3.7kb files :(

Is it just me or are the servers wonky in web browsers for anyone else?

I downloaded the BIOS only file and it worked perfectly for my case.

Btw, will EVGA be able to extend the voltage range to all settings like vCore, CPU PLL, QPI PLL, IOH PLL and so on...that would be helpful when setting up a cool, quiet and power saving profile? Thx~~

What? All those settings can be changed and saved in profile.

But they cannot be undervolted....oh I've mistaken that CPU PLL and IOH PLL has a wide voltage range while vCore cannot go under 1 volt...what I'm concerning is the most power consuming part is the CPU itself and also the IOH...
Sorry for my bad english XD

Hmmm. Interesting. I run a 975. You'ld think it would have the higher voltage. Guess 6 cores needs a little more.

I can confirm that on BIOS 59 resuming from S3 on a E760 results in GPUz saying that PCI-E is running at 1.1 instead of 2.0

Seriously EVGA, this still isn't fixed yet? Pathetic

Thanks for the tip, but no, it didnt help. Mine will just SIT THERE for about 2 minutes and do nothing, and then it will respond. Some of the past bios would mess up my ram timings when i would resume, S61J does not do that, but still has S3 issues.

Thanks for trying though.

Does your computer get stuck when trying to come out of monitor power saving mode? The screen will come back and I can see my desktop, but it remains frozen and I can't do anything until I hard reset the computer.

This has been happening since last year, ATI driver updates and E760 bios updates have never fixed it. UGH

Hi. No - I am still running at PCI-E 2.0 according to GPU-Z after S3 resume. Try these settings below as well and let me know what happens. Also, if you are running a 975 let me know...they've been problematic for me on this board. I recommend selling it and upgrading to a much better 4.4-4.5GHz+ i7. There are some on ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/voodoo1337 ... ;)

Does your computer get stuck when trying to come out of monitor power saving mode? The screen will come back and I can see my desktop, but it remains frozen and I can't do anything until I hard reset the computer.

This has been happening since last year, ATI driver updates and E760 bios updates have never fixed it. UGH

Let me know if you've tried the BIOS settings shown in my last post and if you are using a 975. A board that fails S3 is a non-starter for me...this one runs perfectly for me. If you guys still have issues let me know and I will upload my entire settings template. S3 works perfectly for me without a hitch with my 920 o/c...
