damn Crap drill bits...

Buy good quality stuff.  Just glad I was able to extract the broken section.

Here is the progress made today:

Here it is physically screwed into the board.  I managed to drill and tap all the holes for the north bridge section.  Now the very time consuming milling comes.

A new "improvement"?

Not sure if I would call this an improvement, but I thought I would give it a try.  It is painfully obvious that I am not using a professional milling machine, but it does get the job done.  Note the perfect contact with the North Bridge.

Got some work done tonight.  Carved out the outer 1/4" channel, and several 1/8" channels.  Its coming along quite well.

I still haven't ordered replacement taps, but that will get done hopefully tomorrow.

Here are the updates:

I cut out the south bridge block, and even extruded the material around the chip contact.

I was able to get a MUCH nicer finish to this by bolting down drill press, AND adding some threaded rod to the table and bolting THAT down to the table as well:

and now here is where I stand:

It is that shiny from the milling bit.  If this was a real mill and not a drill press, the quality of the cuts would be much smoother.  The one nice thing about having a rougher cut on the inside milling, is increased surface area so the water going through the block has considerably more cooling ability.

Finally!  All the milling, drilling and tapping is complete!  Now just to finish, seal, and test!

You wouldn't believe how much easier it is using a brand new tap.  It just ATE through the copper.

Thanks!! the block kept the Voltage Regulators around 40°C no matter the overclock during some preliminary tests that I did.  I will probably do more tests soon, so make sure you subscribe to the thread for updates!

Nateman,

Huge fan and just sent you a PM about this very block, but I think the reason he is talking about brass screws is because he might be worried about dissimilar metals and the increased chance for corrosion to ensue.  The basic theory of corrosion is you have 2 dissimilar metals and a conductor aka non distilled water or something of that nature and you will be having the completed basics for corrosion.  Brass doesn't corrode and works well with copper hence all the brass fittings and copper blocks.  I think the point here is if your not using clean H2O then you have bigger problems than 2 dissimilar metals in a block.  But I can only speculate because I'm not him.  Also, it doesn't even look like any of your drilled screw holes will even be remotely close to the water and I'm sure you put some sort of sealant around the block to entomb the water anyways further negating the fact that your 2 dissimilar metals will corrode.

Anyways, Love the work!

Your right in a way but it has notting to do with water .. copper will eat steel and brass is the only metal that can be use between the two as they can not touch each other or corrosion will start as copper and brass have an acid to them as why it burns so bad if your cut by one of those metals.. i have had to fix water heaters where someone didn't know this and made a screw joint with copper female and steel nipple and it only took about year and the steel nipple was no more..

How long do you think it will take to react?  Assume that oxygen is a catalyst for this reaction?  I do coat the entire block with a clear coat, which should slow down the reaction.
