If you were to have a 7980XE, then 1600W would make much more sense....since it pulls 1000+ watts just for the cpu.

Wait what???!!!  Got a source? lol  I bet you it doesn't.

Bepzinky
Yeah but only at crazy volts under chilled water. I've had it on a custom loop (560mm rads...), could do about ~4.3-4.4GHz before some cores would throttle. Measured consumption from the wall was ~550W running cinebench R15. Fully loaded with 2x 1080Ti the whole rig would pull up to 1000-1100W from the wall.

Sounds reasonable for the extreme cases but not for your average user.

What do you have of value to bet with?

Again, do you have a source for this claim?

Of course I do.
Again, what are you willing to lose?

It's not about me losing something but you do when you make such exotic claims.  So you're a bencher, ok cool like many other members here.  1000w on water or LN2?  I haven't seen a shot of a LN2 setup nor have I heard anyone push a CPU to 1000w on water.  All I'm asking is for a source but you keep playing hot potato makes me doubt your statements at this point.

I can run my 7980xe at 5.0ghz and 1.45v but no idea what watts it's pulling. I am using the 1600watt T2 from evga. That's with a 360mm radiator.

Are you using the X299 Dark?

Reason why I ask is because when benching on my Dark I have been running into this weird 12V problem that shows up on the KingPin display. I am using at 1600W T2 Plus a 1200W Thermaltake and it still says it. I do not remeber it saying that on my Apex board. And I do not get it on this Aorus Z390 Xtreme either. Or at least not yet. Trying to figure out why the 12V rail is dropping so much. Thanks.

No I'm using the Asus Rampage VI Extreme Omega. But even with 2080ti Kingpins in SLI I wasn't having any issues

Thanks for that. When my ASUS ROG Rampage VI APEX comes back, I will reverify to see if the 12V error happens

Just because you haven't heard about it doesn't mean it's not possible. You never seen GOD, but yet you believe?
And this back an forth is because you made a statement. ""Wait what???!!!  Got a source? lol  I bet you it doesn't.""

You made a general statement to the masses that you'd recommend a 1600w PSU for a CPU that pulls 1000w.  I challenged it because your average user doesn't NEED a 1600W PSU and not everyone is a extreme bencher like der8auer or Kingpin.

As far as seeing a source about someone using one, I was curious who had done so but that doesn't negate the point that you still recommended a 1600W PSU for a CPU unless of course you're one of those world renown top end extreme OC's on LN2 with sponsorships to afford said hardware.  If you wanna be like them and just get the parts they use, that's one thing but to recommend it in general I just disagree with is my point.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but...
You might want to go back and re read that. And try to understand it in the correct context.
I used words like IF and MAKE MORE SENSE. I did not once say go buy one. That is a very big stretch from what I said my friend. So with that being said, there is no point to be made. It was a misunderstanding.

Side note:
I already have what they have, but without the sponsorships. :)

Your comment... err ah general blanket statement. Opinion.
You people are nuts. lol I thought I was bad with overkill but yall take it to another freakin level. I think that's a waste of money that could be used in other areas of a build. 750w-850w on single GPU and 1000w-1200w max if you're doing dual GPUs otherwise, it's a waste of money tbh. The extra funds spend for a higher watt PSU won't be returned by 90% or 92% efficiency. To each their own I guess.

So I then go take a look at your "maybe" current setup to see why this would be so hard to believe and if that's what your running, then allot of what you said would makes sense, but with the hardware most people are running today, it makes no sense. And they do not need to be using LN2 either. And buying the wrong 750W/850W PSU is just as bad. And i'll leave it at that. No hard feelings.

Cool.

Now, if you have 3dmark11 and a kilowatt meter you can use that to try to pull as many watts from the wall and record it. Run test 1 only. it likes to try and max the cpu and gpus at the same time.

I pull about 500W with a 5.2ghz over clock and gpu running on normal bios maxing at 320W.

I'll get back to you on my 7980XE when I set it back up.

:) just checked my power draw from the wall using a Kill-A-Watt tonight. Card at 2190mhz and CPU at 5 2ghz all cores on the 9900k and on only pulling max of like 612watts during Firestike extreme. First test pulls the most. The 2nd 500+ and the 3rd which is just physics at 400+ watts.

Nice! So guessing the card is only pulling under 400watts using the ln2 bios on the oc switch position. Would be different if I was to use the xoc bios as planned later on under full water.

Happy knowing I'm under half my psu max! PSU is obviously happy and never stressed.

Oh idle is only 260watts.

Dont have the other loop up though so only 1 d5 pump and 18 fans running. Normally would be 2 pumps and 22 fans.. not that, that would add much more.

EDIT: I could add another Kingpin and ha e plenty to go around.

Hahahah.. not at these prices. If it was last run at $1500 ea maybe.. still doubt it.

Excellent!
I'll load up the xoc bios and crank up the overclock to 5.4/5.4 ghz and see what she brings back.

Still messing with the laptop and these 2080's as well.

Realbench 2.56 puts a bigger load on the system. Pulled 698watts highest seen so far. GPU shows 260watts during.

The firestrike bench isint putting a big enough load on the CPU and GPU at the same time. CPU is only at like 23% durring the first test.

Give me my KP copper and I'll make it happen.

Superposition again.. GPU only. CPU is only doing 7% and power at 8k test is only at like 570watts.

Need like prime 95 running at the same time haha

Tried OCCT 4.5.1 running for the CPU while running superposition 8k bench and max power draw was 786watts. Hehe

Edit: OCCT 4.5 1 has a test for the psu.. as in running the CPU and GPU at max.. prob is it only used about 75% for the GPU and 100% of the CPU. Max wattage was around 720-730watts. :/

So we are looking at 400W to 800W depending on what someone is doing all while using single gpu and 9900K cpu.

Yeah so id say 1000-1200watt 80+ gold rated PSU should be good enough.

So some period of time later? Hmm

Neighbouring country here (to germany), bought kingpin from caseking(since its the only site with a "reasonable" price) as well, we have to wait until they get stock which might take anywhere from a week to few weeks just like it was with kingpin. I too asked them and they said not yet available but that it should be in the near future.

Also, EU EVGA will not be selling the kingpin or the block for now, if ever. At least thats what the support told me, only shops like caseking and scan.co.uk will.

Now that a block will be making its way to me, it’s going to talk all of the mental fortitude in the world to hold off on a new case build until the Luxe 2 comes out. Extremely painful but worth it in the end I suppose. Doing it with something like the Enthoo Elite is extremely tempting but the value proposition there is just too poor at this point.
