The 640GB Caviar Green I have now is a nice drive for storage, but it's definitely the weak link in my PC. An SSD would just make everything snappy, loading times in games and applications are the only time I'm disappointed with my PC's performance. I also love trying new tech, never had a chance to try out an SSD because of their price. I think it'd be fun.

Having an SSD in my system for the most part help in the time it takes for my games to load up. It will also help in the booting of my system. I hope soon the prices will come down and the capacities will increase and I can do away with mechanical drives all together.I cant wait for the new V series with TRIM in 64 and 128 GB.

The first time i saw how blazing fast a SSD was, was about a year ago and i have a funnny story about the first time i used it.
A friend of mine wanted to experience SSD on his computer so he decided to buy two of them to install his OS and a RAID0.
When the install was complete (OS, drivers etc...)as you guys all know windows ask you to reboot your PC so we did. We've deciced to start to talk about hardware, girls and stuff during the bios and booting time...about 20sec after the reboot the screen was already showing his full loaded desktop. We looked at each other and he said to me "dam we are stupid we forgot to reboot the previous time...!" so we've restarted his computer for the second time and we've decided to look the screen with more attention....and we've realised that we didn't not forget to reboot it the first time... the RAID0 was so fast that we did'nt realised that no more than 30sec were required to boot up a computer based on SSD technology... :o

So now if i have the opportunity to have one i think that my life as webdesigner will be totally different... according to vids about SSDs posted on youtube, loading heavy apps like photoshop/ illustrator/flash etc... is a real pleasure now and i think that the user experience with the OS is totally different everything is more fluent and fast!

Kingston SSD will definitely change my computing experience. It will improve my work to become more faster and efficient. Why? Because it really brings a better speed and reliability comparing with a traditional HDD. Compared to a traditional hard drive, a the Kingston SSD can easily accelerate performance, eliminate noise, and be a more robust solution for the daily use.

I work with computers -web-designing and testing software - more than 14 hrs/day, everyday as my job asks for it. It will help me with loading time of the operating system, all my programs will load faster and help me do my job quietly. It`s more reliable than the classic hdd i work with, and i have in mind either replace my laptop hdd or even add this ssd to my desktop for my operating system for more than 100% improvements. Better protected, better load time, longer lasting- no moving parts the ssd will be more tolerant to vibrations and temperatures. A big plus it`s more power efficient cause it uses less power.

All my work definitely will be easier- as i can do my job faster and keep my boss happy and hope for a raise.

An SSD would change my experience with computers.  I built my rig with my current HD around 5 years ago and never had the chance to upgrade it.  It's currently full right now, with audio and movie tracks that my dad puts on there when he encodes audio files.  He records lectures and makes CD's out of them to give out to people who were not able to go to the lecture but would like to listen to what the Dharma teacher had to say.  I've seen him slave over the computer many times, saying how slow it is and that I should buy new parts for it.  I'm currently trying to find a job to support this upgrade but haven't been successful yet.  Right now, I build computers for friends and in return, they chip in some money so I can afford an eSATA or an SSD but an external is looking good right now since I need the space and SSD is much too high in price right now with my budget.  If I would win the SSD, I would be extremely grateful since that would help both me and my dad a lot by giving us faster speeds so he is able to encode audio and movie files faster so I don't have to hear him complain =]  Thank you for reading my post.

I'm all for speed!  I hate wasting time.  Life is short, live it!

When I get my SSD I'll install Win 7 64 bit OS and watch it load and I'll smile because I'll get the present of time.

What could be better?

Cheers!

Re:EVGA Mods Rigs "My SSD" promotion Saturday, February 06, 2010 4:33 PM (permalink)
I have upgraded my PC from core 2 due to core i7 and 12 Gega rams Plus water cooling system and 2 sli Nvidia 295 but with a regular 1 Tera byte western digital 7,200 rpm and it's driving me crazy it's so sloooooooooooooow, the PC speed is a hard drive if you have a wonderful system but a slow hard drive you won't ever get what you're looking for.

So i think the Kingston V Series will defiantly change the way i use my PC like way faster in searching, browsing or using my regular PC in any way, will be very time saving and great experience that will be hard to go back to our old regular Pin hard drives.

The only downside i see in those SSD drives is the prices it's way so expensive for a small drives 64 Gegs for 300$ or 200$ so expensive in my opinion that's why i didn't want to try one yet so i don't have to buy like 4 of them :)

And i want to thank the amazing company "Evga" for the great products and PC components they make they are really amazing and life time warranty! Who does that, Really Evga deserves the best and everything I'll buy in the future will only be from Evga!

Thank you all!!

I would use an SSD to put an end to my horribly irritating stuttering in all my favorite games like crysis and fallout 3, i have an sli machine with a core i7 cpu so i know it can handle the settings but i just get those little spikes that make my fps inconsistent. The SSD would also give me faster boot times and faster access to my games :) It would complete my rig! EVGA FTW btw :)

Well about a month ago my 70gb raptor drive died. Now im stuck on back on Windows Vista with 3gb and 1Tb Thats full. I think a SSD would help me cause i need a new dedicated hard drive to put windows 7 on as well as important programs. Vista is unbearable and im holding out on buying another 10000 rpm raptor to watch the SSD prices. A SSD would increase my boot speed and allow me to load my heavy load games at light speed!

I am currently a PhD Chemistry student studying X-ray crystallography.  Molecular modelling is very data intensive and having a Kingston SSD hard drive would tremendously improve my ability to process these volumes of data.

If I got a SSD then I would cuddle with it, snuggle with it, and even kiss it goodnight. I would love it more than I love my own kids cause I know it would love me back. I will never have to buy it a car, pay for it to go to college, or even worry about it getting someone or getting pregnant. SSD would bring me joy everyday and never do anything wrong. All I want to do is give SSD a good home. And I will provide the best home for SSD!! SSD would live in the lap of luxury!!

Besides all that....my wife won't let me buy anymore computer stuff, so all I have left is the wishful thinking of winning a prize!!!

With an EVGA hard drive and video card, I will be able to know how performance can really work and give me a stronger clue how SSD are the new way of the future.
I would really like to know how an SSD would help me use Windows 7 better.
I can't afford one yet.

Solid State Drives are a great leap over standard 7200rpm and even 10,000rpm Hard Disk Drives using the SATA interface. My current Hard Drive is a WD Velociraptor 300GB 10,00rpm Sata HDD running on my EVGA Classified x58 E759 Motherboard, If I had a SSD I would definately install windows 7 64-bit O/S on it and set it to be my boot up drive so I could have a wicked fast boot up time and I would install my games and hard drive intensive programs like photoshop on it so I can really benefit from the faster access times. All in all it would boost my windows Aero score up to a 7.9 since currently my only score below a 7.9 is from my 300GB Raptor Sata drive which drops my score to a weak 5.9 of an Aero score since the weakest score sets the Base score.- EVGA_FAN http://www.evga.com/community/ModsRigs/comment.asp?sysid=17183

Re:EVGA Mods Rigs "My SSD" promotion Sunday, February 07, 2010 6:19 AM (permalink)
I have a little SSD story.

Back on the morning of 28th January, Newegg ran a quick shell shocker special for an OCZ Agility 60GB SSD, the price a relatively low $129 (after $40 MIR). Pretty sweet deal, so I jumped on it and put one in my cart, then started looking around the site for a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to mount it on. Imagine my horror when I added the adapter to my shopping cart and hit continue to process the purchase, and suddenly the SSD drive was removed from my cart, and instead I got a popup message informing me the item was sold out.

I was not happiness filled.

I sent a rather blunt email to Newegg expressing my annoyance, and they actually replied and apologized but said they can't let items sit in shopping carts if other people want to buy it.. while I understood the reasoning, I was actually still on the website shopping at the time.. just a shame their system could not recognize that, but whatever.. I lost and that was that...

..or so I thought..

Later that evening, long after the SSD was sold out, I was sifting over alternative SSDs and eventually decided to just wait for another deal, so I added the sold out model to my wish list to watch later in case it dropped down in price again.. imagine my surprise when I refreshed my wish list and it said "in stock"..

I very quickly put an order through and it was accepted!!! This was actually at about 1:45am EST the next day, but it was still 28th January over on the west coast where the Newegg server was based, so I still got the $129 price (after MIR). When I looked again at the product page, it was 'sold out' again. I can only assume that someone canceled their order, and I just happened to be refreshing the page at the exact right moment, and I got the drive!! ! YAY!!!

I now have the SSD drive running my Windows7pro 64-bit o/s and loving it - and I scored a windowed panel for my case for just $9.99 the day before the SSD went on sale.

The new SSD has made a remarkable improvement to my PC user experience (this is the first one I've ever owned), with super-fast loads and processing, and Photoshop CS opens in just a second or two - it's awesome!

What would be even more awesome is a second SSD to load up some of my gaming software, since the new SSD I have is limited to 60GB, much of which is taken up already by W7, Office2007, Photoshop CS, and a few other non-gaming software items. That is why I am posting here - and hoping to get lucky a score another SSD compliments of EVGA, since I certainly can''t afford to buy another one. The SSD has already changed my computing experience, and a second one will improve it even more! Thanks for the opportunity EVGA!

Here's a new pic of the windowed beastie:

I would love to have the awesome performance that an SSD would give my build.  I work in animation and motion graphics, so my work is quite CPU and RAM intensive (as you can imagine).  I dream of having an SSD to finally rid my build of my final bottleneck... my often, if not always, painfully slow 1 TB drive.  I am grateful for the space, but in the world of peformance hardware... my computer just can't keep up to my workflow.  This SSD would change my life by giving me the freedom to create and imagine without the wait.  I would be very grateful for such an opportunity and I would sing your praises all day long.  Thanks for the opportunity!

Being a 3D artist working in the film/TV industry I am always on the earch for something to boost performance when it comes to visual effects software and applications like Maya and Photoshop. Loading large files and other data can take a toll on our poor old drives and my time. Not having had the chance to try out an SSD drive yet, I would be curious to see the difference. Although it seems rather obvious the performance gain on apps like photoshop or video editing could be increased significantly just from the recent reviews on Kingston SSD drives. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Also ehhh yea lets not forget the fragging. After all, the faster I can load my games, the more headshots I get in before the boss gets back from lunch =P

I have always strived to make my system boot as fast as possible.  From overclocking the system and removing start-up processes, to setting windows into performance mode to free up as much of the system resources as possible.  Every little thing helps.  I always brag that I have a system that will boot to windows and idle in under 55 seconds.  I have watched  a couple Youtube videos of ppl with ssd drives and the boot time is amazing.  There is no competition between standard mechanical drives and a ssd drive, the boot time is amazing.  If I win a ssd drive it will be used as a boot drive for windows and a few choice games that I play the most, and my 2 wd caviar black 500g hdd will be used for everything else.  My current setup on drives is 2x WD caviar black 500g 32meg cache 7200rpm drives run in a striped array (raid 0).

I plan on using an SSD hard drive to increase my performance in video editing. I recently bought an HD camera for home and amerature movie taking and stuggle with my access times and transfer rates. I have not migrated to RAID because it doesn't make sense unless I update my hard drives. So I figure if I am going to upgrade, do it right and go SSD and get the best I can. I also have taken on the responsibility of digitizing my families old VHS home movies. It takes a whole night of editing to make a nice "Grandchildren's Greatest Hits" for my grandma. I look forward to making my time-use more efficient. Of course I will also be using it for increased game performace. That is a given. Also getting my Win7 boot time close to or under 30 seconds would be AWESOME.

My mechanical SATA hard drive is bogging down the performance of my computer.  An SSD will greatly increase the boot up time and program opening times for everything on my Windows 7 computer.  The mechanical Western Digital drive that I have installed now is starting to lose performance and bog down my entire system.  Boot times are steadily increasing and the hard drive has a hard time copying files.  A solid state drive will solve all of these problems that I am having and greatly increase the overall speed of my PC.  My Windows 7 Experience and every day use depends on a new SSD.

Acquiring an SSD would allow me to handle my MMOs and photoshop/CAD/3D work with ease compared to mechanical solutions, this would also open up my budget for a better video card since I wouldn't need to buy more drives to RAID them. Even with the RAID it wouldn't match the speed of a solid SSD.

My Mods Rigs is here: http://www.evga.com/commu...omment.asp?sysid=16082

Building a new i7 rig though, it's all a matter of parts.

I'm with iceboil714 on this one.  My desktop uses the Kingston 40GB SSD for the boot drive, and it has been the single best performance booster that  I can think of.  The SSD's quick random read time makes it perfect as an OS/program drive.  If I get another one, I would use it with a laptop.  I don't store a lot of music or videos on the laptop, so a Kingston 64GB SSD would give me plenty of space for the work that I need to do.

An ssd would make my system much quieter since it doesn't have any moving parts.

It would also improve my load time in general for all the applications that i currently have

A SSD would function as an OS drive on my rig (windows 7 ultimate - 64 bit) and better yet, hold my compiling software. I am currently a Computer Engineering student with hopes of working in hardware. A SSD would drastically decrease the compile times on the ridiuclious assignments my professors give us. I had hopes of buying a SSD when I built this rig but the drive was out of stock.  When it came back in stock, the price had skyrocketed thanks to some nice reviews from various websites. So I installed the OS on my 1tb WD caviar black and called it a day. A SSD would complete this built for what it was meant to be ! =]

If I got a SSD that would mean I would have open my case up and clean it out I haven't open my case like in 50 years, well, with all that dust in there it sure seem like it. After I get my case all clean out I would need to install the SSD to the MB and then hook up some power to it . Then after I install the SSD I would have to tell everyone how great a SSD is and how fast they are. That seems like a lot of work to me but that okay, if I won a SSD it would be worth it in the end. The end

An SSD will help me lose less time in Windows boot and make everything better... (and faster)
