If you were looking for pictures on the Z77 ITX, I've already asked. The board is in the layout stages and is too early for pics. The production release is forecast for July/August. It's gonna be a long 60 days. So in the mean time, I'm just saving up the EVGA bucks and plan out the build.

You should see my camping gear list. I think I have invested about $1000 already in new gear. Going from the gear must fit in the bed of the truck to everything must be able to carry in a 90liter hiking bag.

Haha, yea such a long wait. I am glad I didnt. The ASRock Z77-ITX works just fine. The 6+2 Phase was enough to do 5.0 GHz on a 2600K without issue (Im sure it could go higher but i fold, so want to keep temps low), as well as run a 690 with a big OC, and I have Overclocked my 2133Mhz ram timings pretty far and it all works. Not to mention its cheap. And since Mini-ITX only allows for 1 PCI-E slot, it doesnt matter if you run 2.0 or 3.0 on it, nothing will bottleneck 2.0 16x. The 690 with a big OC has been proven to be bottle necked at PCI 2.0 x8, but it wont drop to that with one slot =). And then if it did, just pop in ivy bridge and you are back to 16x speeds on both slots. Sucks, because I really wanted the EVGA, and I would have paid alot more for it as well, but rather enjoy my parts now than wait for months...

Yea, I looked at that one too and decided against it. It only had a 4pin cpu power connector which led me to believe that it has little to no overclocking ability, and they didnt clearly specify the power handling or phases on that board. Most of the reviews on it said the power handling on it was limited to about 4.1Ghz. Only good thing about that board was the price. If I was getting a Non "K" Version cpu it wouldnt be too bad.

From what I could see on it for chips, it is a 4 phase power. And ya, no major OC ability. My 2600k has a speed limit of 3.4GHz. It can go faster, but the board doesn't support it for long-term when I need it to fold. 8-pin, 8-power phase for the EVGA board. That should allow the 2600k to finally stretch its legs and really shine. How about the CPU socket, is it moved away from the PCI-e? Thats one of my biggest factors.

subtec Check out this M-DTX concept from one of the guys over a losias.net: The "problem" with that concept is that the PCIe x16 slots are 1) x8 each with LGA1155 and 2) adjacent (dual-slot cooled cards won't work without using single-slot waterblocks). In quotes because it won't be a problem for everyone. But if the second slot doesn't have a high-bandwidth device, why be full x8/x16? There are mini-ITX with x1 and x4 slots, in addition to a full x16 (example pictured below). danny.nguyen Hope they put extra pcie slot for either dual card or sound card if you know what I mean. We could say those demanding the mini-ITX form factor have already made the sacrifice of lacking additional slots spaces ,like a dedicated sound card. But there are mini-ITX boards that include mini-PICe slots and audio cards exist for them; maybe not as advanced as the full-size version but better than integrated. There are plenty of mini-ITX boards with mini-PCIe slots, although most don't allow overclocking and most support older generations (since the primary market aren't enthusiasts). The industrial board company Axiomtek made a miniITX standard board with two PCIe slots, an x16 and an x4, so it is possible: Although the board is four year old using a mobile Core 2 Duo socket instead of desktop socket. Though the successors of this board don't maintain the slot configurations anyway. BTW, when these companies refers to gaming machines, they are talking about casino gaming and the like. Of course, function isn't limited by market, any of us can use whatever motherboard however we like, that why there is no such thing as a "server CPU" or "gaming graphics card.

lehpron The "problem" with that concept is that the PCIe x16 slots are 1) x8 each with LGA1155 So? x8 is more than enough bandwidth, particularly at 3.0 speeds. lehpron and 2) adjacent (dual-slot cooled cards won't work without using single-slot waterblocks). Or single slot cards. Or single slot + RAID card. Or dual slot card in the second slot with a thicker-than-single-slot waterblock (as many are) + card of your choice in the first slot. There are many possible reasons. lehpron There are mini-ITX with x1 and x4 slots, in addition to a full x16 (example pictured below). And the inner slot on that outdated Axiomtek board would be inaccessible in any standard chassis. I don't know why you're trying to make the case that dual slots is a bad idea or people are foolish for wanting it. There is really no good reason why an enthusiast-class Mini-ITX board shouldn't get bumped up slightly to Mini-DTX size and include a second high-bandwidth expansion slot.

The only real reason to go to Mini-ITX is for people who want to micro size their PC's. It isnt always for maximum performance. But I can see these getting more popular in the near future as cards like the 690, the 680 Classified and the upcoming 685 are powerful enough cards to run only 1 card and be able to play anything. They definitely save space and are easier to haul around if you need to. I got mine sitting under my monitors so it doesnt take and floorspace up or any desk space for the most part.

I like the mITX boards for their size and now options to use mainstream CPU's. I'm going in both directions for the mITX builds. One is a small form factor that has the power of a full size PC (Quartz rig). And my next build is to go as compact as possible and give good everyday use power for some light gaming, also to be energy efficent and stay around 100W with a GPU card (Mercury rig).

EVGA + Z77 + Mini-ITX = sweet baby jesus yes!
I've been waiting patiently for the FT03-Mini, Node 304, and ST45SF-G to come out. EVGA please save me from having to use an H77 Intel board. PLEASE!

subtec So? x8 is more than enough bandwidth, particularly at 3.0 speeds. If you're going to presume someone else's perogatives to make a point, then I'll do the same and we'll both be right: 30 months after 8800GT debuted with the PCIe 2.0 spec, GTX480 was able to reach x8 2.0. If I got a system with PCIe 3.0, I expect it to last much longer than 30 months, so x8 wouldn't be enough bandwidth. subtec Or single slot cards. Or single slot + RAID card. Or dual slot card in the second slot with a thicker-than-single-slot waterblock (as many are) + card of your choice in the first slot. There are many possible reasons. None of those other cards require the real estate wasted on a mini board by having an additional full physical x16, per the rendering you refered to. subtec
lehpron There are mini-ITX with x1 and x4 slots, in addition to a full x16 (example pictured below).
And the inner slot on that outdated Axiomtek board would be inaccessible in any standard chassis. If you don't want to use a single-slot [graphics] cards, that doesn't mean the slot is "inaccessible in any standard chassis"; it's just you. Give Axiomtek credit, they didn't make a board on the hunch it will sell with slots no one can use except with creative chassis'. It happens to be a legacy configuration that boards had for many years, before most PCIe cards became dual-slot. Even both the Shuttle Z77 barebone and Zotac's Atom based setup use-- like I said, either their customers have no choice or just want to use it. Consider that Zotac didn't bother expanding their lineup with more mini-DTX boards shows us the demand hasn't grown large enough for those other products, all of their newer LGA1155 mini boards are still mini-ITX. subtec I don't know why you're trying to make the case that dual slots is a bad idea or people are foolish for wanting it. If you see my criticism that way, then you're not hearing me out. I've seen people like you every once in a while, you all get upset when the stuff you like isn't more common or obvious to anyone else (like those wanting higher Vram to be standard on GK104), but somehow the simplest conclusion still evades: There aren't enough people like you to make money from. These companies aren't stupid driving a conspiracy against the best ideas, but someone needs to pay for them and usually a few thousand orders are needed to make it worth the company's money to start.
