I just got the email for the 3090 FTW Ultra and ended up buying it because idk when this card is going to come out, and how much a pain in this ass it's going to be to get one.
 
Also would prefer that Elite members get first dibs.
 
If it's going to be mid November then we'll hopefully get a price next week.

Probably be doing the same thing, but more due to the fact I won't put it under LN2. Chiller yes, LN2, not likely

Ended up the opposite of what you did. Email notification regarding 3090 FTW 3 Ultra came, but then saw the king article and this thread. Decided to leave the FTW Ultra to the next person and wait for this.


My friend questioned me today why on earth would I spend 50% more to get the modest performance gain. I suppose I just want a kingpin to sit nicely on my openbench table rig that’s all

That was kind of you to let someone move up a notch and get a 3090 FTW.  Hope you enjoy that new Kingpin when they come out, it sure is a looker.  You won't have to leave the house, just sit there and stare at it's beauty.  :-)

@QueueCumber If not "binned" but hopefully at least tested to run consistently at the stated boost clock... ;) Has it been stated somewhere that they are really not binning the GPUs (binning in the sense of specifically selecting the chips in accordance with certain hardware-driven pre-defined criteria)?

And second, I totally understand! It's not just the performance gain. It's about getting it by slowly playing around with the settings. Eke out an extra FPS feels so satisfying. But then again, I am just a fanboy! lol

^^^ KPEs are always binned. They ensure that the cards will hit a minimum frequency and run stable. The over built PCB and cooling enables the card to maintain those speeds. The chip itself is tested to ensure it meets the minimum specs, otherwise it is likely used for a FTW3 or XC card. They won't slap KPE on a card that cant perform and likely ensure that as much as possible.

Indeed! Especially during this time when you can see threads where various users are talking about their cards failing. Not just EVGA. I know higher quality components do not negate issues and problems, but it reduces the odds of problems. When I get the card, I want to mess with its performance, and waste time trying to get it to work!

I agree buying a card that doesn't fall is a priority, but I feel like you didn't need to buy a KPE to ensure your card works. I think EVGA is fairly reliable across the board, with some outsets, but the fact this is a reason to buy KPE is a failure in the part of manufacturers.

I'm almost positive KPE has never been on the step up program. Several members have chimed in on this, the KPE units are more limited run.

Yeah, I don't think KPE will be on stepup. They haven't done it before and it doesn't make sense to put it on when demand is the highest it's ever been.

Its already been said there is no step up to KP. EVGA if your reading this please give Elite members with registered KP cards first crack at buying one.

Definitely very interested in grabbing at least one of these.
 
I'd love to hear from someone at EVGA re: OpenFOAM applications. We do some very interesting work in my company - custom climate models which directly result in yield increases for "local for local" greenhouse-based products.

I think any kingpin product buyers who are elite members should get first dibs. Lot's of people bought the kingpin motherboard to pair with the kp 3090
