So I'm a little confused about the normal (non-Ultra) BIOS. It shows an OC version. Is there an on-board OC switch on that card that I'm missing or is there a difference in the OC/Normal BIOS or what?

The FTW3 non ultra has a bios switch yes. Normal and OC. They are indentical in terms of physical hardware, one just has vbios(es) with a 60mhz OC on it.

Good to know. I must've totally missed the BIOS switch when I installed the card. Guess I'll have to pop the case open and try it out! EDIT: That little switch is TINY. No wonder I didn't see it. It took me a while to find it and I was even hunting for it.

evgatorator A couple of n00b questions/opinions from me too: - Are the GPU BIOS and firmware the same thing? As @Zeddivile indicated above and in my totally untested and unproven opinion I think my 3090 FTW3 Ultra's performance dropped after I installed the PX1 v1.1.0.11 which in turn installed the firmware v2.1.1.4. Seems like there's no going back either... Why would that be though? - With my first 3090 card (a Z0TAK), when running Port Royal, I was consistently hitting 450W. Not so with the FTW3 Ultra set on the OC bios (the original not this beta yet)--I hit 450ish but it's not nearly as consistent during benchmarking as it was with my previous card. Having read quite a few of the past 374 posts in this thread, I haven't found a good reason to upgrade my BIOS to this beta version yet. IMHO, if you've just received your beautiful, shiny, new FTW3 Ultra and are reading this, avoid these two things: upgrading to the latest version of PX1 and updating your BIOS to this beta version for now! - My last and most distressing problem is regarding the results of my Time Spy runs. I've run it several times and I've been getting absolutely awful results--even compared to a 3080 (an Aorus Master) I played with for a few days! My best result for now using mem & GPU clock at stock and fan set at full speed has been 14,436 (Graphics score of 15,635)! In contrast, with my previous 3090, I was getting graphics score of 19,4XX! Surprisingly, in Port Royal my scores are very close (almost better than) the 3090 Z... Also when running Port Royal, I get close to 450 a lot, but when running Time Spy, it's very rare for the power to reach 430 even... Nothing else in my system has changed since Z0TAC. My PSU is an EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 80+ PLATINUM just in case and 3900X, ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero, 32GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600, etc. I understand my questions are general and not specific to this beta BIOS but at the same time, since I saw some similar posts re the firmware, I figured maybe someone can shed some light on my current situation and offer some tips.
GPU firmware and vbios are not the same thing. Firmware is updated from Precision X1 and is specifically the MCU firmware. The MCU controls fan operation, pump operation in the case of hybrid cards, and RGB operation. Probably deals with icx as well.

joshjd93 So just for fun I tried reflashing the stock OC bios back over the beta one for now since there are issues with the 500w one obviously. After doing so, I couldn't get the card to pull more than 350w at 100% power limit. It seems the bios that was posted by Jacob is either modified from what shipped on the cards, or something else is going on after flashing this beta bios. I double checked the bios version numbers and they match from the shipping and the one Jacob posted, but obviously there is something wrong. I reflashed the beta bios and its back to normal. That said, the beta bios rarely gets to 500w, but I seem to be able to get the card to pull 500w in firestrike extreme after a few minutes of heatsoaking the card. Otherise, I rarely see 450w+ power draw with this new bios. I have left the normal shipping Bios alone and have been doing everything on the OC bios switch side. Not sure if any of this is useful for testing but this has been my experience the past weekend.
Ya I also replicated this behavior.

The original BIOS is on the first page of this thread. I went from original BIOS to the 500W OC one and found worse performance. I flashed back the original one and performance came back to original levels. On the original BIOS, I reach as high as 455W in Timespy and games. Using 500W BIOS, I only reached 430W.

I have the Ultra. The non ultra original BIOS is also on the first page of this thread. I unistalled the video drivers and PX1 before reverting to original BIOS. Make sure you also delete the PX1 folder as well. Then I rebooted and installed drivers and PX1. I am back to hitting 450W consistently again.

I think there is something wrong with the non-Ultra OC vBios that Jacob posted as the original or shipping vbios for the card, not the Ultra one. Glad to hear the Ultra one is working properly when flashing back. I was unable to hold anything close to 450w let alone 400w with the one for the non-Ultra.

vgerik1234 @arestavo what are the gains like? Is Port Royal able to average over 2060 MHz now?
No gains on air for me with the limited amount of testing that I was able to do before work. I don't have time to clean boot and dial in an OC, so I just tried my standard +150 +750 & clocks and power draw according to afterburner were the same in port royal (~1950 MHz and 420 watts). I didn't get a golden chip, so others will likely see more benefits on air - which is why I am waiting for that hybrid kit. Hi Arestavo: What does your +150 and +750 represent? Thanks!

Shunt modding is really the last resort and you void the warranty if it is discovered. In fairness we should not have to shunt mod our brand new cards (I payed ~2300 USD for mine in Sweden!) just to reach the 500W the bios states, hence I prefer to see a solution through bios (if possible) and let Jacob and team come back on this topic.
Also 120+ W on PCI E slot might not be good on 24/7 basis ? Will the MB be able to handle it ? Do we have any sources on reliability there ?

Exactly what I said it did: about 1950MHz average GPU in Port Royal for the +150, and VRAM was +750.
A day later I was able to test in greater depth, as per my later posts. +200 and +800 was the most I could get out my card for Port Royal. The GPU was just under 2GHz average for Port Royal.

I think because there is nothing beneficial being posted by many. Everyone needs to take a pill and let EVGA continuing working on this beta bios. I've posted my experiences and feedback, thats what everyone else should be doing, not flaming EVGA for working on a vbios that was not a part of the original purchase anyways and is something extra they are doing for owners. Let them refine it and fix the bugs.

Thanks for clarification, and for posting your experience. For maximum stability across most games, I find need to stay bellow +150 for GPU clock, and below +450 for vram. Additional volts, don’t seem to do much. That’s without the bios update, so hopefully will be able to clock higher for both.
I can clock higher with some benchmarks, but not stable in games. Have you tried those clocks in actual gameplay?

My old OC for any game had been +75 +600, and with a higher wattage I've settled on +100 +600 because I value stability more than an extra FPS here and there. Most games still run around mid 1950MHz give or take a bit.

With the original OC or 500w OC bios I hardly break 400w in gaming or Time Spy Extreme (a few spikes to 415-420). Card is on 3 solo PSU cables, temps in mid 60's, power slider maxed, but no OC. GPU-Z still says I'm PWR limited most of the time. Any ideas on how to get this up? I know some in this thread were having issues with the 500w bios but I never even hit 450 or close to it on shipping bios.
