For my FTW3 3080 Hybrid gpu-z reports that I'm using 94.02.42.C0.04 BIOS, I see that only 105% is allowed.  I'm guessing I'd have to update to 94.02.42.80.FC to get to the 450W bios?

Edit* Found the Jacob thread with the .exe files to update to 94.02.42.80.FC and can get over the 105% cap from before.

Does anyone know if anything can be done about the KL FTW3 Ultra 3080 power maxing at 105%, even though I now can raise it to 118% but it does not actually ever do it.

Hi, MSI supprim bios in EVGA rtx 3080 ftw3 :) If you want more power BUT not always more performance you can try it, with the msi Bios the number in gpu-z is not accurate but if you monitor your power supply you will see the card pull betwen 450 and 500watt. At your how risk ;) sorry bad english...

EDIT: Ok so all is well with the new BIOS except, it doesn't want to go above 420W, infact it averages around 400W underload. Anyone else have similar results? I have power target at 118% in X1 and voltage slider at 100%.

SOLVED: Lol I spent 2 hours combing through the first 30 pages of this thread looking for my issue. I'm a dumby - the resolution was on the last page  - flashed and works great now.

Does this BIOS work for the LHR version of the card? To be exact, I have the 10G-P5-3897-KL.

When I go to update it says "No compatible display adapters were found."

I cant get over 408 watts.

I have the power set at 118%
core at +155 memory at +1025

running port royal:
52c max on core 82c max junction temp
perfcap reason is power
8-pin #1 129w
8-pin#2 147w
8-pin#3  82w
pcie        50w
it looks like there's a load balance issue

I seen there's a RMA for 3090s that couldn't hit targeted OC specs. Is there anything like that for 3080?
I have 3080 ftw3 ultra.

if not, I may try a shunt mod in the future.

I have a 3080ti that exhibits the same behavior. Supposed to pull max 450w but I've only ever seen a max of 434w and typically it is around 420w range in benchmarks. I also have the power balance issues where the 3rd pin never pulls more than 80w. I'm curious if the new 3080 12gb will have the same issue. I really like my card and am quite pleased with the performance but I would prefer if I was able to harness all of its power.

Re: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 (3897) XOC BIOS BETA 2022/02/07 17:45:35 (permalink)
I'm one of the unlucky ones that has a 3080 FTW3 Ultra that keeps hitting the "power limit" despite the power slider cranked to 118%. Using GPU-Z, I did notice that if I cranked my fans to 100% if the temps went higher than 60C, I would get spurts (not continuous) of 425W when running the Heaven Benchmark test. Not exactly the power hovering near 450W (continuous) I was looking for BUT, before I flashed my GPU's BIOS to the XOC version, I was not getting past 380W while only being able to crank the power to 105%. So if anything, I got a soft extra 20+ watts with this BIOS. It's just sad that I keep hitting the "power limit" making it seem like this BIOS update gives the illusion that you can crank it up to 118% when in reality, I'm only getting 105-108 tops

My other 3080 is a Gigabyte OC Gaming card and it won't go past 360W. The difference between the 2 3080s I own? I only see the difference in benchmark tests. But in-game? Both cards perform identically (while the FTW3 was overpriced and I'm wondering why I got a card with an unbalanced power load issue). Oh well.

Did you ever manage to fix this? Looks like I'm in the exact same position with an LHR model. Doesn't matter that I'm on the 450w BIOS, pegged at 400w.

I'm watercooled with temps at like 32~34 degrees, so it's not thermals. This LHR card was only delivered like 2 months ago, so recently manufactured.

I've sent a support ticket to EVGA along with my evidence, if you ask me this is beginning to look like an LHR limitation. Either that, or fingers crossed it's just a buggy BIOS no one has really complained to EVGA about as of yet.

Here is a very clear example of the issue

My curve in this is set to 2100 / 1.0v max. Maintains this fine in Kombustor as it's drawing just under 400w, max around 397w, quite a few dips to lower 39x/high 38x.

Here is a curve set to 2160 / 1.05v max, instantly hits 400w power limit, even although it is set to use to 450w, frequency craters down to 2010mhz as the card desperately tries to balance itself at a power limit wall with current voltage.

There is a serious issue here, either with the BIOS, or the hardware. I'm watercooled, hence the temps, so thermals are not an issue here.

The card is refusing to draw more than 400w and is completely ignoring it has a BIOS set to 450w max

I'm crossing my fingers this is a faulty BIOS, I wouldn't like to think the LHR cards from EVGA are all "faulty" or there is some sort of hardware power balancing issue...

Given a lot of the power hardware OCers likely somehow got a card at launch, or went and paid scalpers prices, a lot of prior watercooling OCing might have been done on the non-LHR model. More LHR cards finally getting to people, so folks like me who waited patiently and now want to OC/watercool are starting to complain

Though I'm a bit worried there are a number of posts going back months in here with no resolution or comment from EVGA. Hopefully me sending a support ticket helps!

The load balancing issue has been known for quite awhile and I believe affects all EVGA 30 series cards (3090ti and 3080 12gb might be exceptions). However, my 3080ti has the load balancing issue but does pull its maximum 450w when using Kombustor. Other programs like CyberPunk, 3dMark, Heaven, etc draw more than 400w but never quite get to the full 450w. Mine is air cooled so on water you should definitely be able to pull 450w regardless of the power balance issues.

So it's a hardware problem that has been known about for months and no real response from EVGA? Great...

Interestingly, I tried running an Asus Strix 3080 LHR 450w BIOS just to see if it helped, it was even worse, struggling to go over 330w. So that suggests to me the EVGA BIOS plays a large role in power balancing.

Given I've raised a ticket I hope I get some sort of response as to whether they're going to work on the BIOS or if they'll confirm it's a hardware fault on certain cards.

Other manufacturers have absolutely no issue going up to 450w, so EVGA have cut corners or designed something poorly...
