I have a FTW edition. To be clear - the ACX fan design coupled with the insane heat of this card at 1401mhz threw off my case's airflow and therefore bumped up my CPU temps ~ 13 degrees(c). My gpu sits at around 65 under load.  My cpu sits at 64c under a 4 out of 8 core stress test(Tj is 70...see my dilemma?) and pushes 70 within 45mins of 8core. Prior to this card my temps were 53/62. Giving me room to overclock my AMD fx 8350to 4.75 (max temp of 69c under a 3hour stress test in prime95) with my corsair h60 (with two noctua fans)  My solution is going to be placing a noctua fan on the bottom on my case an exhaust (ACX blows down) but this won't help in SLI. Perhaps a side vent will. All in all, I should have grabbed the hybrid and overclocked it myself.

All in all, perhaps EVGA should warm people that the ACX setup dumps 100% of the cards heat into the case, requiring some sort of exhaust.

ACX does not blow down at all. Acx blows up into the card, through the fins, hits the heat plate, and then goes out of the sides. More air coming into the case instead of exhausting.

You need positive pressure not negative. Set the bottom fan as an intake, not an exhaust.

Yes, the ACX dumps heat into the case. This is known thing and has been for a long time. Try turning the fans up a little higher on the gpu's to see if you can get them a little cooler.

Already have 6 intakes {one is two noctua fans on a 120mm rad} and 2{top of my case to exhaust the rad's heaT) exhausts. My pressure is positive. 

I will try both options and benchmark em both. Thank you for letting me know that the ACX blows upward. This makes me wonder if I should re-evaluate my entire fan setup. Does the ACX suck in air from outside or from below the card? If the latter, then it makes sense to run the bottom as an intake.

If you are using push pull on a rad, I would personally consider it one fan rather than two.

Positive pressure is definitely a necessity for sure.

Could you post pictures of your setup and maybe we can see something that may help you out?

 
I did count it as one. Anyhoo, I'll see if my fan idea works and post pics if it doesn't.

Also, I'm extremely satisfied with the card overall :) Just a small gripe that is mostly due to me needing better ventilation.

I think you have to purchase them at the right time. For example, right now you can get the tomb raider game, but when you go the page to claim a code for it, it says that you have to have purchased your card on or after Jan 7th 2016. If you bought in between promotions you might be out of luck :(
 
 
Speaking of this topic, I'm considering getting the GTX 980 Ti HYBRID, but its out of stock right now. I'd like to get in on the tomb raider promotion and I'm considering going with the 980 (not ti) hybrid instead. Does anyone have any clue on when the Ti model will be back in stock? Also interested in opinions on performance difference if anyone out there has owned both.

i find it very strange that the 980ti acx 2.0+ sc for some reason is unable to maintain 1500mhz boost , my 970 g1 in 3d mark is constant stable at 1500mhz boost but ur top of the line gpu just can not -
 
i have tried all options in after burner , kept the core at 170 / maxed out the votlage setings / power limit to max etc - the frequency keeps on jumping from 1488 / 1433 to 1455 on its own .
 
only some times in valley benchmark it touched 1502 mhz then again jumps every where below this / temps dont cross 75c  , i have 4 gpus in quad sli and checked each gpu on its own / none of them manage to keep 1500mhz boost . which is very strange .
 
asic values are all above 75% , it seems odd that it wont do it .
 
Evga precesion x latest version crashes in windows 10 , and if you try to enable kboost it some how the nvidia drivers are some how uninstalled as it says no hardware found and i have to manually again load up the drivers
 
 

Hi i got the same card, and got the same results , on 3D Mark i can go +170 on GPU Clock and +500 on memory, i hit sometimes 1507, but frequency goes most of the time jumping from 1468/1433 like you.
 
I got 73% Asic, and use the stock bios for the moment.
Are you using stock bios ?Because in my case i already tried to flash the bios and use the 1420X.rom bios done by Sajin but it failed for me twice, i had every time my graphic card bricked and i had to bring back the original bios.
 
I may probably test an other bios, would you guys have any recommended BIOS with higher power target ?

What's the diff btw the 980 and 980 Ti  besides the cost?

The 980 is a GM204 gpu core and the 980ti is a GM200 (titan x with less memory and a few Cuda cores disabled).

Finally edited my bios, and could achieve 1528Mhz stable on 3DMark with it, but the card heat like a toaster in charge (80/82°C with 75% Speed fan, 74°C at full speed).
 
My waterblock is coming at the end of the week so it will fix this problem, i'm really happy about my card!

Yes, my aging p8p67 is a 2.0 board only (as is my cpu actually lol, 2600k) and I just picked up a 980TI Hybrid. It's purring along quite nicely! A major leap over the 980 I replace with it.

Yes really is GTX980Ti big performance difference and more video memory for 130-150$. Usually NVIDIA ask same price difference only for GTX970>GTX980, for same chip. Now GTX980Ti is one class higher chip,
overclocked BIOS compensate less CUDA cores than TITAN X... Every custom if possible should pay price difference for GTX980Ti.
EVGA sell GTX980 for around 520$ and GTX980Ti is around 660$, more or less depend what customer want, but usually is 140-150$ difference. If GTX980 is only 20% stronger than GTX970... GTX980Ti is 50% stronger than GTX980. Price difference among them same.
 
I have recommendation for EVGA Hybrid model next year.
Maybe radiator should be cubic type as EKWB Coolstream PE or CORSAIR H110i GT.
If that's not problem with company who produce AIO for EVGA.
With EVGA company name on radiator, not to big fonts but visible. Maybe even White LED.
Box, I mean package should stay same, customers are amazed with K|NGP|N and Hybrid package and ask is it so good package only when they order from EVGA. That's significant investment for company when you count how many cards need so good package, but mean a lot for people.

So, I am trying to decide buying the 06G-P4-4996-KR (GTX 980 Ti FTW GAMING ACX 2.0+) or the 06G-P4-4998-KR (GTX 980 Ti CLASSIFIED GAMING ACX 2.0+).
 
The only difference I can find in these 2x cards other than looks is the power phase and max power draw:
06G-P4-4996-KR Power Phase 8+2 and the Max Power draw is 275W
06G-P4-4998-KR Power Phase 14+3 and the Max Power draw is 300W
 
Would the 4998 with its power phase be considered for better OC'ing and consume more power and the 4996 be more power efficient?

No, the 4998 is not guaranteed to have better overclocking capability. The extra power phases are to provide cleaner power under extreme voltage loads and subzero temperatures.

The ftw does provide slightly cleaner power over reference, because it does have 2 more power phases compared to reference 6+2, but again, you are on air, so it will make minimal impact. Same goes for both cards.

The ftw is better for smaller cases because it is 1 inch smaller than the classified. The classified has a full inch of extra space for the power phases from side to side. They are the same length (11.5"), and height (2") but the classified measures in at lose to 5.5" where the ftw is close to 4.5".

Both cards are subject to the silicone lottery. You could get a fantastic card that overclock very well from both, or you could get a lemon from both.

Most 980ti's will hit close to 1450mhz with no sweat on air. Some have gone to 1550 and some have not gone past stock specifications.. It is all subjective to the GPU die.

If you ever want to watercooling, get the classified.. It has a compatible waterblocks from ek waterblocks.

If you plan to stay on air, I would suggest the ftw. Either will do what you want though.. But the classified is meant for subzero cooling in reality.

I bought 2 classifieds recently, only because they had waterblocks and I got them for less than a ftw costed, so I couldn't complain.
