If you are holding off, wait for pascal honestly. It should be more powerful for a lower range card. If you are going to go for it, I still suggest the FTW since it is $50 cheaper.

So the upcoming 1080, or whatever the initial, presumably end of May release will be branded is considered a lower range card? I was highly considering just getting a 980ti for the short term, due to wanting play Dark Souls 3 with a lot more eye candy for a first playthrough than what I'd get with a GTX . It's not like the 980ti would be a "waste" of money if I ended up being stuck with it, but I find it odd that it would be considered a higher range card, and not elligible for a Step-Up swap.

Keep I mind, when Nvidia launched the 980, they launched them at Nvidia.com almost 2 weeks prior to retailers being allowed to sell them. The May release is possibly a soft release, not a market release.
If you get the 1080, it will be equal to the 980ti at best, but it will draw much less power, which is the winning point of the newer cards.

Hmm. I do realize that the "2x performance per watt" is most likely simply meaning "the same performance with half of the draw", but I doubt I'm alone in hoping that Pascal was actually going to be a large step up in performance too. Either way, it sounds like getting a 980ti would most likely give me the boost I am looking for. It just wouldn't be as cost efficient in the long run. This is quite the conundrum. At worst, say the initial public offerings for Pascal are released in July, that's ~3 months after the release of a game I wanted to be able to boost upon my first playthrough. Rationally, it's not particularly smart to spend this kind of money for a single game, when I could get a better deal not too far into the future, but you can't ever have another first experience with the same game, and I'm definitely not going to wait to play it either. I do actually have a few other games that my GTX 780 chugs with in specific areas, but I had no problem waiting until up to even September to replay them, so I'm not really factoring those in. Honestly, I might just wait until closer to the release of Dark Souls 3 and just pray that someone has a few benchmarks @ 1080p with AA/HBAO (if supported). Right now I can play The Witcher 3 with Hairworks off with it dropping as low as 46fps, but it usually stays right at, or near 60fps with everything on high or ultra. Getting the upgrade bug this close to the release of a new series sucks!

I went ahead and purchased an FTW a few hours ago. I'd be gaining around a 50% increase over what I currently own, and considering it will probably be Christmas at the earliest before the large die cards start appearing, whatever. I'll get the performance I was wanting now anyway. If the 1080s are actually released within time to use Step-Up, and whatever stock form EVGA ships them in regarding noise levels are comparable (with them obviously having at least equal performance) I'll use it. Otherwise, not a big deal. It's not like I'll be needing more than that for a long time anyway, since I do most of my primary gaming on a plasma TV. Then in the event that something is realeased that actually taxes this card, I'll just get a 1080 Ti in a year or two. My older system that I retired to basically a media/storage along with emulation PC is still using a GTX 580 from the beginning of 2010. Swapping it with my current GTX 780 will be a decent upgrade for that system as well. Plus, it already died a few months ago, and was temporarily resuscitated by throwing it in the oven. No idea how long it actually has left.

Did you at least get a backplate on yours ? I spent $650.00 on one thru evga & no plate . They should make it retroactive like they did with the 470/480 hi-flow brackets . Just my 2 cents ...

I am having an issue. I was running 1 980ti classified on a x99 classified motherboard and an EVGA 1600 t2 PS. Everything was running fine until I add a second 980ti classified. I set them to run in SLI and about 3 minutes later the first card was no longer showing up. Looked in the case and only the bottom card had lights. I removed bottom card leaving the first card still in and restarted PC. Everything is running fine with only one card. Never had issue running 2 780 sc's in SLI. Any suggestions as to what problem is?

It would be best to post a new thread for this. You are in a very general thread, and your post will get lost very easily. For the time being, Could you please try SLI again, and see if it happens twice? If it happens again, head to the Device Manager, and see if card one is showing an error.

So how do you determine if you have a card that is problematic, vs software conflicts? Since getting my 980 Ti FTW last Thursday, I've had the driver crash four times, and another oddity with Rise of the Tomb Raider. I know that one of the more recent Nvidia drivers was causing a lot of stability issues, so they pulled it. What I grabbed was the replacement. I also know how to install drivers clean properly, so that's not the issue. This is also on a system that just had a clean Windows 10 installation.
The initial crashes happened while simply watching Netflix. This has never happened with any other graphics card that I've owned so far. Although I don't know if it's card related, even though I did have my GTX 780 in the Windows 10 machine for almost a week without any conflicts. Basically the screen would go black, and I'd get this humming/stuttering sound that would sometimes go away on its own, and sometimes I'd have to reset the PC.
With Tomb Raider, I was trying to see if I could even run it with Very High textures, which are supposed to eat up a ton of memory. Well, according to Afterburner, the card wasn't even using 5k vram yet before a Windows error would pop up saying that it has to close down the program due to there not being enough memory, closing the game. This only happened when trying to use Very High textures, and it happened every time. I don't see why this is happening either, because there are plenty of reports of people playing that game with a single 980 Ti with Very High textures. My system ram wasn't full either, and that's not even counting the page file. Doing multiple loops of the Tomb Raider benchmark with textures at simply High resulted in no issues. Anyway, after these crashes happened, freaking me out, I decided to do a couple of hours worth of benching with Unigine Haven and Valley, as well as 3Dmark Firestrike. With the ultra setting for everything, including tesselation and 8x AA, no problems at all. I have yet to actually play through any games to see if they unceremoniously crash though.

Okay, I'm sure this sounds odd with everyone having issues buying a 980ti SC. But I'm trying to buy something else that seems to be being ignored. Check out the VR version of the 980ti. http://www.evga.com/articles/00981/evga-geforce-gtx-980-ti-vr-edition/ Check out the ports. Is there any way that a person can purchase one of the ports without buying the card? Why? I already have 2 980tis. I love them. If you check out the rest of my rig specs you'll realize I practically have an EVGA computer. I can't run any more 980s in my system as the benefit would be almost nothing due to bottle-necking. I simply can't justify buying a new videocard for a port. I am willing to buy the port and have the slots in the back of my PC to run the cables back in and plug them into the port. I'm sure there will be a 3rd party version created, but I kinda figured EVGA would rather have repeat customer money than a 3rd party. If there is a way to purchase the bay alone, can someone notify me? Thank you.

Purchased a 980TI FTW. So far, the card itself is very nice. However, the controller that runs the LED lights doesn't work. Took the card back out and looking at the 4 pin connector near the two 8 pin...the plug is very wobbly and doesn't feel snug to the PCB. It actually moves a great deal. This is probably why the lights don't work. Overall the card is close to 20% faster than my GTX 980 SC, but I am doing an RMA with EVGA, rather than Newegg, and hopefully receive a brand new card that works. Hopefully, I don't get a reburb to replace a brand new product...

Typically when you buy a card, you'll get the CD key as a separate email. You have to login to uplay to access the game, since it is an UbiSoft game. Once you activate they key, yes it will be linked with your uplay account, and you're free to download and install as many times as you want.

You will get a brand new product still factory wrapped. The white box special is refurbished cards that are sent after the 30 day initial period. http://www.evga.com/suppo..arranty/graphics-cards/Warranty terms: All products returned from EVGA's RMA department are thoroughly tested recertified products. If an RMA is necessary within 30 days of the original purchase date, a new in box OEM replacement will be sent in return if the product was purchased new-in-box, subject to availability.

Odd...tech support says no to the unopened shrink wrapped product. Says that even though the card is new, I get just a card. Not happy about that. Might RMA to Newegg..which will take an extra week. Can't get consistent answers out of the techs
