I was having red/white/(insert color here) screen crashes originally and the firmware update seemed to have stopped them. However, I still encounter display driver crashes, regardless of version, every single time I play Battlefield 3. The screen (both monitors in my case) go black and then lose signal.

Occasionally I'm able to alt-ctrl-del out of the crash and recover from it, but other times the system goes unresponsive and I'm forced to hard-reset. I'm not too thrilled about doing so either since I'm running my OS install on a RAID - I'm just waiting for the time it corrupts.

The firmware upgrade seem to help with some things but it hasn't resolved whatever is causing my 670 to absolutely dispise Battlefield.

Ok a new bios that throttles more,  I'm going to stay on the original.
I just got my 670 FTW a week ago and I have noticed some weird behavior in terms of boosting.

My max boost clock is 1163mhz at stock, but it won't get there unless it hits 63-64c with TDP peaking 100% - 104%, with my current fan profile it barely hits 61c while playing BF3, Skyrim Modded.  But if I change my fan profile to allow those games to reach mid 63c/64c/65c/66c the card will boost to 1163mhz.  Otherwise it's 1150mhz at the most.

I thought these chips were meant to get the highest boost possible out of the silicon draw as long as the thermal requirements are met.  Basically anywhere below 70c.

Try updating punkbuster for BF3 crashing.  I went to evenbalance.com and downloaded pbsetup ran it, added bf3 to it and updated.  Hasn't crashed my game since.

I was also getting an error message pointing at and an Nvidia dll.

I would really like to see a full white paper on the new bios,  my card is already middle of the road and I don't think it needs the bios update for more aggressive power throttling.

Dumb question but I'll ask, sorry if someone already has.

Assuming we follow the instructions, updating BIOS does NOT void warranty, correct?

Re:EVGA GeForce GTX 670 Firmware Update v80.04.31 2012/12/01 14:41:52 (permalink)
Well finally today I've updated my bios...

I bought a while ago an SLI Bridge from EVGA and it that doesn't work properly, it makes my cards have some strange artifacts and well I thought "I may try the new bios", tried it but I haven't got rid of artifacts... So I thought in testing each card which they worked flawlessly when not in SLI, So I replaced my "new" bridge and it seems I've got everything fixed ( Yeah spent some money on a bridge with about 2 weeks and it isn't working, quite bad evga  )

Resuming I've updated my bios *, and well the best part is here, previously I couldn't get more than 15+ on GPU Offset with 550+ on Memory, keep in mind that my cards boost out of box to 1228/1215, now with this new bios I can OC alot more! It's working at 70+ GPU Offset and 550+ on Memory, which result in 1293/1280 Mhz which is an awesome OC In my opinion for two GTX 670 FTW's, thanks alot evga for this update!

* Keep in mind that I've modded by my own my bios ( the newest ) to take advantage of full Fan speed ( 25-100% ), that way I can keep cards under 63Cº at the OC'ed speeds!

Im having no luck with the new bios. I would appreciate it GREATLY if a mod could send me a copy of the vs 80.04.31.00.70 for the 4gb Sc. I thought I had it saved on my computer, can't find it...the newest bios keeps locking up my computer at the same clocks I used previously. Thanks!

I have two EVGA GTX 670 SC+ 4GB in SLI in a system I upgraded a few days ago (new HD, CPU, RAM and new, clean install of Win7 64-bit with all updates also) and I am getting artifacts on my desktop (pieces of old windows, dialog boxes and pop-ups left behind). They go away if I do anything that overwrites that screen location, such as a selection drag, or move a window, etc. It occurs mostly in the gadget tray area, but also sometimes along the top of my taskbar.

There are no artifacts in games (DX9, 10 or 11) that I can discern.

Also, I have had this problem before on the taskbar (I was not using gadgets so I don't know about the gadget tray) with my old GTX 470 SLI pair, never updated the video card BIOS.

Will this update get rid of my artifacts, or is there something else I need to do?

Hi I have searched and cannot find this problem in the thread.  I have a 670 FTW. GPU-Z screen:

When I try to run Update.exe, it says something about searching for compatible devices, then gives this error:
"no display adapters were found that are compatible with this update"
It goes so fast, I had to click it several times to figure out what the message said before the terminal window closed.  Can anyone shed light on this issue?

Edit: I just noticed some strange behavior.  I installed Assassin's Creed last night and the setup program seemed to think that I have a 4GB card.  I definitely have a 2GB, didn't even know the 4GB existed when I purchased it.  I ran dxdaig, and it also thinks that I have a 4GB card.  Strange..

2nd Edit: Sorry guys, just figured out my problem.  I called EVGA support to ask about this and had to look up my serial number.  When I pulled that up, I realized that I actually have the 'LE' card and not the regular FTW.  IMHO it's kind of crappy that the LE even exists, but I digress.  Problem solved!  Still don't understand why dxdiag shows 2x my actual video memory..  Intel HD graphics helping out perhaps?

Finally I've found someone else who sees this behaviour, I have exactly the same situation with 1 of my SC+ cards. It's freaking weird that nobody has been able to explain this. It's happened across all vBIOS and driver updates. For me it ticks over once the temps get to 62+ degrees.

I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW Signature II (seems to be relatively unknown, but from what I can tell it is basically a FTW with 2 fans instead of 1).  I purchased it in the UK.

I cannot get the BIOS update to work.  It flashes up for a moment, and from what I can tell it says it cannot find a card.

The current BIOS reported by GPU-Z is:
80.04.31.00.70 (P2004-0005).

Device ID:
10DE-1189

Subvendor:
EVGA (3842)

I tried the FTW bios, and I think I tried the FTW LE too, but no joy.

Can anyone help?

There is no BIOS update in this thread for the 670 Sig2, product code 02G-P4-3677-KR. Is there a particular reason you want to update the BIOS on this card?

I was under the impression that it is exactly the same as the GTX 670 FTW, except with a different fan arrangement.  The bios is likely to be exactly the same, perhaps with a few tweaks for said difference.

I wanted to update for the same reason everyone else has; the purported stability enhancements.  The update wouldn't exist if there was not any enhancements or fixes.

If there is no bios update for my card, then fine - I just wasn't sure if there was something I was doing wrong and thought it was worth checking.

If you are having stability issues, you can give it a shot, but if that BIOS update doesn't detect your card as valid for it...I'd trust the updater and not try to force it. While it could work, it could also mess up your card.

EVGA GeForce GTX 670 Firmware Update v80.04.4B - Updated 10/16/12

Q. What are the changes in this new firmware?
  • Updated in 80.04.4B - Updated compatibility
  • Improved stability
  • Improved compatibility with DELL XPS 8300 systems

Q. Do I need to reapply this update every time I update a driver or reinstall the O.S.?
A. This update is attached to the card, no matter where it goes. If you update the driver, the EVGA firmware update is still applied.

Q. How can I tell what version I firmware I currently have?
A. There are multiple ways to do this, one way is to right click on desktop and go to NVIDIA control panel. Click on Help, then System Information. Scroll to the bottom of the Details window and it will show your "Video BIOS version". It will be listed as EXAMPLE: 80.04.31.00.72. The numbers in bold identify the version number.

Q. I just bought my card, will it have this updated firmware?
A. Chances are yes, as new firmware is release, new products shipping from EVGA will also have this firmware version applied.

I am another unfortunate XPS 8300 user who is looking to upgrade my graphics card.  Seeing as the best 670 on the market is the FTW+ 4gb, when can we expect this firmware update for that card? I would really like to buy it, but I cant until this firmware update is released for it.

Just came back to the evga family good to be here. I did not need new bios but flashed them anyway.
This system runs like a top no problems at all.
Plays all my games at the top settings without a hitch. Is a good multi tasker too. The one thing i have found is 3Dmark gets lower overall scorse because of my CPU. Its works fine for me.
it say new member I have been a member since 2003" if a moderator sees this please fix that. thanks i do 18 EVGA bucks still.
