Re:EVGA GeForce GTX 670 Firmware Update v80.04.31 2012/08/27 00:45:37 (permalink)
Hello,
I'm new here and pretty new to EVGA but I seem to have had no such luck with this bios update.
I flashed my 4GB 670 GTX SC yesterday and the flash completed successfully.  I rebooted and was playing games like Anno 2070, Warcraft, Rage, CS:GO all day and the card performed great.
One thing I did notice is that using Adaptive Vsync from the control panel no longer worked e.g. WoW and CS GO were running at 150+fps and maxing out my card to 99% of it's usage.  Enabling Vsync in game fixed these issues though.
Then around 8 hours after flash I went to launch CS:GO and my two screens blacked out and machine froze - next reboot all I get is what you'll see in the screenshots.

I can't find how to get a factory bios for this card officially through EVGA forums.  I don't want to deal with any 3rd party sites. I've created a support ticket too - really hope I don't have to RMA this card and be without. :(

I can get into Safemode and from here uninstall the nvidia drivers.  This allows me to log into Windows and can apply the flash, however after rebooting I can only get back in via Safemode because the drivers install for the display adapter automatically.

Anyone know where I can get my hands on a stock firmware for an EVGA 4GB 670 GTX SC before I send it off for RMA?  I just want to try once more.

I don't want to unlock clock speeds or fan usage, just revert it back to normal.

Just about everyone in this forums agrees the cards should not get above 67C...I'd say you have something going on with your set up...

I just got my 670 today, and started Skyrim up and played about 5 mins myself before I got artifacting and crashed.  I'm still looking for answers myself.  I'm using the latest driver 9.18.13.602.

Like others I updated the firmware to this 80.04.31.00.70 and now boots with artifacts on splash screen and crashes after the Windows boot and loops.  I had to re install 285 to get into windows.

I just flashed my GTX 670 FTW and I get constant crashes playing games; starts with a black screen and leads to all fans go max speed until the machine reboots itself. This usually occurs 1 - 15 minutes in to gaming now. I'm using the latest beta drivers and 670 FTW bios update. I had to switch to my old 560 Ti or I would give exact driver versions.

Re:EVGA GeForce GTX 670 Firmware Update v80.04.31 2012/09/04 01:10:53 (permalink)
I have one of the PNs mentioned specifically 020-P4-2670-KR. I also am attempting to install it in a Dell XPS 8300, one of the reasons for the firmware update.

I have now spent two days or so installing and uninstalling the board. I attempted the install according to the eliminate all previous graphic drivers, start clean approach, and then get a black screen on start-up. I read some more in the forums and then attempt another install which means I must uninstall the 670, re-install my old graphics card, make some recommended changes to the audio programs, etc., uninstall my old graphics card and drivers again, to then re-install the 670 and end up with a black screen again. I have been through this exercise probably 8 times trying various recommendations over the last two days.

Now we are talking about a firmware update and want to try that, but I am unsure how to run a firmware update with the 670 installed and looking at a black screen. This has been an exercise on installing a graphics card and making changes to the system while blind. Any help would be greatly appreciated as at this point I am losing my will to live. LOL

Hello all,
I am an unlucky XPS 8300 owner. 2 Weeks ago I bought an MSI 670 card not knowing about how annoyingly stubborn that Dell is and attempted to install the new card and came up with the black screen (NEVER buying Dell again). No one was able to troubleshoot my PC until I ran into this thread. 2 Weeks later here I am still running my old POS nvidia graphics card and waiting for my new eVGA GTX670 FTW card to arrive from newegg. I am quite nervous and excited at the same time.

My question mainly revolves around whether or not the card currently shipped with the new VBIOS that will enable it to run on my xps 8300. If it shipped with that new VBIOS then fantastic, but what if it didn't ship with the updated VBIOS? What can I do here? I do not have a spare computer to install a new VBIOS unfortunately. Is there any solution for me if it isn't preinstalled with the new VBIOS?

Just got the new card this afternoon and thankfully the card was already flashed with the updated VBIOS. I'm happy to report that it runs like a CHAMP on my xps 8300. Thank you eVGA, you have quickly earned my respect for helping out the "little guy" and BIG thumbs down to Dell, they have eternally lost my support...never again will I buy a PC from those scumbags. eVGA has my support!

thanks,
Jeremy

What if you accidentally used the wrong firmware? I used the FTW LE on the FTW.

The firmware did well for me. I noticed a tad of performance loss but to a gain of stability. You should be okay Madogre essentially the 670 FTW LE architecture is the same as the KR version that I use. I'm not exactly sure what is different on the LE, I just saw they a were a few bucks cheaper than mine.
306.02 driver-
The 306.02 driver is garbage, if it was worthy, a WHQL version of the 306.02 beta would of already launched.... I play about 30 different Dx9/DX11 games and so far the 304.79 is the best yet. First game I played after installing the 306.02 driver (Test Drive 2 Unlimited) crashed within first 3 mins and prior to that I noticed stuttering. No problems with 304.79, although I would like to see some better SLI support or increase in SLI performance.

I just checked my EVGA GTX 670 FTW video BIOS version in the Nvidia control panel system information and it says I have 80.04.4B.00.71 should I apply the firmware update or wait for a better update?

With all the posts about artifacting and black screens, I will wait for a more stable firmware update.  Nothing wrong with my card as is right now anyways.

How do you install this firmware update?

Ran the update for the 4GB card, the DOS screen shows 2 cards were found and available for update, pressed Y on each one and then I saw it say verifying and then the window closed.   Restarted and checked
Nvidia system properties and I'm still on 80.04.31.00.70, so ran the firmware update again using admin - same after reboot it the DOS window is closing as if it updated both cards but the version in system information is not changing.

The same thing is happening to one (or both) of my cards now too.  I flashed the firmware update last weekend and played a bit.  All seemed well.  Next time I boot it up and start playing BF3 it crashes to black screen, but the sounds and all other windows sounds goes on.  I can't even get to the task manager.

The cards ran flawlessly until I flashed the firmware.  I was given a successful install on both.  Now this.  It only occurs in SLi.  When I run benchmarks in single card mode, no crash.  When I enable SLi it even crashes in a browser.  I've installed the newest beta drivers from Nvidia (306.02) same problem.  Not a driver issue.  It is a bad firmware install.

EVGA can you please advise?

Actually, 306.02 is WHQL'd for the 660Ti for some strange reason (not sure why nVidia is still separating this model's driver), though I have no problems with the beta on my 670 FTW and was definitely better for me than 304.79 which kept crashing when I played either Diablo 3 or World of Tanks. I suspect it's just a random set of variables that cause drivers to be fine for one person and garbage for someone else.

EVGA, are you guys planning on releasing a more updated stable firmware patch to fix those issues mentioned earlier in this thread?  Just wondering if I should take a chance with this update or wait for a newer more stable version.

So, one can only assume that EVGA is aware of the firmware problem(s).  I know my system is completely disabled right now.  I have a $400.00+ plus card that is setting in my system that when enabled, crashes everything.  It wont even open a browser before it crashes.  Disable SLi and it is fine.

When I get home later this week...I'm going to try and flash my card(s) individually and see if that corrects the problem.  I would however like suggestions and/or a link to download the previous firmware version.  My rig was running great before I flashed to the newest version.

Trust me.  I will definitely wait before flashing again.  This is a total bust for me.  I'm not very happy right now.

I'm very surprised that EVGA doesn't make the previous firmwares available for download. Because there are potential unfound bugs in ANY program,  is exactly why they SHOULD make them available, so peolpe aren't left being SOL while the company figures out what went wrong.

I can't say I've had any issues yet, but I flashed late last night and only did minimal things and I also don't run SLI(which seems to be the problem).

Anyway, come on EVGA, make the old firmwares available.

and I'm wondering if the problem is really the compatibility with some motherboards, in my case I've a maximus extreme IV gen 3 - P67, that is one of the luck ones, right?

I've the same problems the a lot of people with those cards are having ... BSOD, crashes, artefacts and all of that.

Now, is this a problem with the card or some driver, firmware update will solve it ?

Because if somebody could answer me that some update will solve this whole mess, I'd get another gtx 670 ftw and wait.

So please, help me on this matter.

The problem with your card (most likely) was the firmware.  I think v80.04.31 has some bugs.  Not working in SLi for some user is an obvious one.  I flashed my firmware 2 weeks ago and used SLi for short time after that.  All seemed well.  After I shut the system down completely, and fired it back up again is when the crashing began.  It wont even open a browser in SLi before it crashes to a black screen.  All of which I attribute to the firmware flash.  My system was 100% stable before the flash.  I tested it for hours using 3DMark 11, 3DMark Vantage, Heaven benchmark 2.1 and 3.0, plus countless hours of BF3 (settings @ ultra), Dues Ex: HR, and Diablo 3.  So, I know the problem lies with the flash.

*update*
So, I removed the functioning card and tested the card that I thought was bad.  It is bad.  Apparently the flashed has seemingly malfunctioned the card.  When I test the card with the Heaven benchmark it crashes 5 or 6 seconds into the flyby and gives me this error "D3D 11 Appwindow:Swap():device removed" and "lDXGl swap chain: present device failed: device removed.

Just for fun I ran 3DMark:Vantage and was given this error:  (DXGl_Error_Device_Removed).  And of course the old stand by:  Nvidia drivers stopped responding.  Windows Kernal mode driver 301.42 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

None of the errors were present before the "firmware" flash.  My machine was running perfectly.  I'm wishing I would of never of flashed my firmware now.

DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE.  It just isn't worth the risk.

Beginning RMA process.

Wait, so the firmware just made everything worse ?

I was thinking in taking another gtx 670 ftw, in case that one (3rd) also came with problems, I'd try the firmware.

I think that is a no for this, right ?

Thanks.

I wouldn't do it If I were you.  At least not until someone from EVGA says something official about it.  I know I have to RMA my product as of right now because of this flash.
