I have a MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC, since it is a reference card would I be able to use any of the EVGA bios? I have a Dell XPS i have been wanting to use it in.

not cool. my GPU core clock got stuck at 914MHz and didn't want to boost at all under load (50% TDP max). re-installed both nvidia driver (304.79 beta) and precision X (it lost the GPU temp sensor), now all back to normal.
 
however now as everything clocks normal I see some EXTREME POWER THROTTLING under load (when OCed). in deed the TDP stays at max 122.7% (near ideal), but I loose lots of MHz for that!!!!
 
here is a short run of Scanner X at my GPU OC, look how deeply it power throttles under load (dropping from 1242MHz core down to 1138MHz!!!! over 100MHz drop!!!!)

no, I no longer am fond of it. what's the point in OC'ing it if the GPU core drops the speed to its own liking (based on power draw).

The power throttling is application dependent so it will only do it in certain things, my 670SC 4GB doesn't do it during BF3, but from what I have heard it will in 3dmark11 (haven't tested this myself yet). Your card should throttle down for sure at 70C though, that is the first thermal throttle point on these Keppler cards. I don't think anyone is talking about thermal throttling here, just the power throttling. I haven't updated my card either, I haven't had any real big problems with it so I am leaving it be.

Nope my cards never have down clocked during 3dmark11 even when I purposely lowered the fan setting and let the card get well into the 76C temps. I have onscreen display and LCD keyboard display, they never downclock from 1300mhz and 1260mhz ever.
This may be just a issue with the 670 reference and SC models.
The FTW's are actually 680's with one SMX unit disabled.

The FTW are ACTUALLY 680's with a defective SMX unit, they use the same pcb/heatsink/fan.
The reference/SC use garbage components and are on a much smaller pcb/cheap fan/cheap heatsink. Hence why they reach 80C when OC'ed. The FTW's never surpase 67/68C.

Hmmm, i guess im lucky to not even come close to that 70 mark when im OC'ed. I MIGHT get it to 61, and that's it. 

61 C? BS. you people either have fan profiles or you are full of crap claiming to never go over 70 C for full load on an oced gtx670. 

I never see above 67C on either of my 670 ftw's and I have pretty nasty OC's going on both. My fan curve is default and I just have it on auto. My fans never hit 70% so I never hear them. If your cards are getting hotter than that, your cards are bad or your case cooling solution is terrible.

you have to be freaking kidding me. there was nothing wrong with my card as for as temps go and I have excellent case air flow. all it uses is the reference 680 cooler which most certainly exceeds 70 C in every review out there. did you even look at your own link because even at stock clocks it was hitting 77 C? and the 680 cooler is far from the best cooling solution. wow some of you guys really just see what you want to see I guess...lol.

Not sure what to tell ya my clocks are 1300mhz which is a considered a huge OC. Yet to see above 67C even after 6-8 hours of gaming. What case do you have and what kind of fans are you using? Maybe you need to clean your case?

Just about everyone in this forums agrees the cards should not get above 67C...I'd say you have something going on with your set up...

Sorry but maybe we should just start a thread about the temps of our cards and get out of this one about the firmware. Just a suggestion.

Not sure why it went off track so badly. The thread is about new firmware for the Evga GTX 670. It fixed two things:
 

Improved stability

Improved compatibility with DELL XPS 8300 systems    
 
  The arguing about temps, and fans needs to stop now.

 
So after I posted, a couple members posted  Personal Attacks, and their posts were deleted. Let's do this another way then. Looks like some people may not have understood what I was trying to say above.
