DSP1... Thank You for Your deep insight. Honestly. Hmm, so Pascal, in general, is afraid of heat? That means that keeping GPU core at let's say 50°C and running it at 2050 MHz, will yield more fps, than keeping core at 70-75°C and running it at the very same 2050 MHz? Do I understand this correctly?

uplink_svk Hmm, wont the Maxwell 2 history repeat itself? :/. Not sure, but by 980Ti's were all graphic cards bottlenecked by the chip. And since I had already 4 GTX 1080 Ti, all of them "high end" [Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti, Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti WaterForce Xtreme, MSi GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z and now I'm on EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3], and all were +- same way overclockable, is there a real "real" possibility of achieving e.g. 2150 - 2200 MHz on chip, and 12500 - 13000 MHz on memory? With full body waterblock of course. I wasn't able to get past 2100 MHz stable on any of the 1080Ti + didn't get memory beyond 12500 MHz. That's why I ask.
[my actual baby is running on 2050 - 2080 MHz, depending on a game title and mem is 12 000 MHz].
It is "possible" if you win the lottery. Is it probable? No. 2150-2200 on 1080 Pascal is way above average. 2200+ is golden chip territory, I have seen maybe 4-5 reported cases of that and only 2 of those were 2300.
Were they given to reviewers? I'm cynical. I feel like every card is tested before being shipped out, and that those ones, are ones that are kept or held back to give to reviewers. Can't let consumers have that crazy performance without them having to pay extra for it!

Absolutely correct. And if you can get the temp down under 45 or even 40 even better. nrpeyton ran his 1080 classy on a loop with a chiller and kept his temps under 10C-0 C and got best results for his card and was getting close to 2300, not sure if he ever got there though. And another guy here, can't remember his exact handle kwthlu or something, will tell you the same thing. He can run his 1080's at 2178 but gets best performance when they are at 2112 or something. Again because they are cooler.

These were GTX 1080's, one was an MSi and the other was a Galax if I am not mistaken. This was posted on OCN back in August or Sept of last year. And they were just everyday guys posting their results who were gratefully surprised that they had such great silicon. I don't think that all 1080's were tested. Presumably they did batch testing and some would get out into the wild. It's also important to remember that everything we see posted is only a small % of units sold. I joke about the grandma who has her computer set up for her by a grandchild with a brand GPU that does 2250 but no one will ever here about while she surfs the wool websites. lol It's still a lottery out there.

DSP1... This is like super interesting. I always "felt" that the hardware performs better, I mean like overall, when kept under 50°C and I'm always happy when I see no more than 30-40°C on my loops. Even back at the Core i7 930 age, with my hotter than sun GTX 480, I've had like non-OCed CPU, running up to 40°C at burn, and the GTX 480 was hovering around 43 - 47°C. That was one badass waterloop built by tiche.pc Mr. Očenáš himself. I never OCed anything back at that day, thus I had these temps and everything was running like a charm. Okay, it's great to know that my obsession with constantly cooling down ain't for naught. Anyway, are VRM/FETs also stricken by this phenomena? And what about VRAM? Thank You for now, for really great insight! :)

VRMs and FETS have higher tolerances and are not as susceptible to performance decrease due to heat as the chip is. And the same holds with the VRAM, though nrpeyton would be able to get into that a little more with you as he definitely tried to make sure those chips were kept cool as well and identified which ones on his classy got the hottest and tried to accommodate for that. He posted all his results while doing his mods and testing over on OCN and I am not sure where to find all the links in the huge thread over there on the 1080's, but he had charts and graphs at his various clock and VRAM OCs compared to his Bench scores. He did a lot of work. But the bottom line is with electronics of any kind, cooler is always better.

Opened my kingpin Getting things set up now, but wow does evga do an amazing does packaging. I didnt think much of the golden ticket, until I got one, its metal! The card is stunning. Way better then online photo's, the way the copper looks in the light, simply beautiful. Even the backplate has amazing details. The most beautiful 1080ti ever built.

Yikes. There is an audible noise coming from the card. It started as soon as I started running a benchmark and the clock speed went up. I though maybe it was coil whine, so I checked the card and the fan weren't even spinning because the card wasn't warm enough. If I minimize the benchmark and the clock speed drops the noise goes away or gets too quiet to hear, but as soon as I open it back up, and the clock speed goes up, and audiable noise, like an electric hum or something. Also does it with games. Made a video: https://youtu.be/O0ycWhMHazM

I can literally hear it inside my noise isolated padded case. Calling them tomorrow, because I'm not going to keep it with that noise. edit: changing voltage didnt do anything, gonna let it run heaven all night, maybe it will fix itself. I have a new power supply, so maybe ill try that too' It does do this though. I got 2125 with the memory offset at 0, but dropped to 2113 when the temps raised. 2100 is stable but not with much memory offset, and not when it gets warmer. Crashed after a while of 2088/5900, with fans set to auto. currently at 2075/5800, fans on auto, lets see how she holds up.

Copper plated for fins and pipes, and I think the core contact section is solid copper.

Changing power target and voltage have done nothing. Let it run all night last night at default settings, hasnt changed a thing. I tried different configurations of power cables. 2 individual cables. Guess ill hook up my new evga 1000w t2, if it still make the noise, im exchanging it for another one.

Smart move - Hopefully they have some set aside for exchanges or something. I ended up opting for a full refund since the site said it was out of stock, so I'm gonna try to wait until they work the kinks out. So far between the few of us that have posted, there's been coil whine issues, missing screws, fan issues, and plenty of software issues lol. Worst case I'll use the money for a FTW3 Hydro Copper. One of the two are bound to come in stock at one point or another lol.

Well the ticket is just a metal card that tells you to register your product on the website with the serial number. 6 people will be selected out of everyone that registers. I believe the physical card is just a nice collectible piece :)

If all these problems are happening with this card then I'll probably just get a 1080 ti FTW3 card and add a water block to it instead. AShiddyGamer
gobstoppable Changing power target and voltage have done nothing.
If these issues are happening to people who bought these kingpin cards, then I'll probally just opt a for a 1080 ti FTW3 card and add a water block to it instead. No way I'm spending $1000 to run into these problems.

To be fair, we don't know how many cards were actually shipped out. If myself and 2-3 others are the only ones announcing our issues, and they shipped out 100 of them, it's not too bad. If they shipped out a total of 20, 3-4 of us are vocal about our issues, that still leaves a potential 16-17 cards that may be having issues or may be perfectly fine, but that still means over 10% of the cards are having issues. All depends on the numbers. Unfortunately, I doubt we will know any details about sales numbers so there's not much of a way to judge currently. On the bright side, it is EVGA, so if you did run into any issues, I'm sure they'd be resolved quickly and favourably.

Switching psu's only changed the tone of the noise, but its still just as loud. So right now, sad to say, shes all packed up and ready to go back. People who are getting refunds for defective items, are they charging you a restocking fee since its open? Do you pay for postage? I would accept another card, but if there sold out, then I don't know how long ill have to wait. In the past 2 months I've had several 1080ti's in my hands, sc2, ftw3, zotac amp extreme, asus strix. I have to say, its the fastest card I've had, has a better cooler and any other card I've tried, and it hands down a beautiful work of art, and I would be proud seeing on in my case everyday.

Not 100% on the policy at this point. I was told over the phone that if the card is found to be defective, then I would not be charged a restocking fee and, when asked about refunding the original shipping, they would refund me whatever I paid. I asked again on the forums and was told a different answer to both - That I'd be charged a restocking fee (15% or $150 in this case), that my shipping ($60) would not be refunded, and I'd be responsible for the cost to ship it back ($20+). Luckily when I explained the contradiction (and a little complaining about having to lose $250 on their most expensive defective card), they apparently made an exception and told me they would waive the fee and return the shipping. So your mileage may vary, but keep in mind that EVGA CS is indeed one of a kind and will generally help you out. I've even seen them offer to waive/reduce the restocking fee for another customer, so long as they were willing to put it towards another EVGA product.

Lol, gotta love customer support. They only offered me an RMA, guy registered my card and processed the RMA. I chose the cross shipping option, and he claims they should ship me another one as soon as my credit card is processed. So they must of held some back just for this type of case. When I mentioned they were out of stock, and are you sure you have another one to ship, he put me on hold and checked. I mentioned I was surprised they had any, since people online were being offered refunds, guy said "huh, haven't heard anything about that" lol. Kinda annoyed there shipping the replacement stands grounds. I mean I paid for 2 day shipping the first time because I wanted the dang thing, now I'll have to wait all week for another one lol.

BTW regarding overclocking on KPE, there will be an OC guide and a few tools within the next few days at Kingpin forums.
