Here's to hoping FTW3 drops before my 30 day refund window on the FE expires!

Sorry guys, a little bit of confusion on my part.

So if I get the EVGA 1080 ti Founders Edition.

Can I step up to the FTW if it is released within 90 days?

why wouldn't you be able to? Follow the rules for the step up program and you should be fine.

No. Ftw is a custom board. If you want the ftw, just wait. If you like the founders, grab it asap.

Because ftw is a custom board. Step up is for reference pcb's only, unless there is extenuating circumstances.. the ftw3 will not be on the list any time soon, if at all.

Yeah, just looked into it.

For whatever reason, I always thought you could only step up to a higher tier card, like a 1080 to a 1080 ti. Not a different cooler in the same series.

Looks like I'll be doing that it the wait time is reasonable.

Damn. Oh well.

No worries either way. Just hoping Newegg gets me my EVGA FE on time.

Hi.
This page

states REQUIREMENTS
600 Watt or greater power supply.**** based on a PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2GHz processor.
I have a 550W power supply and Core i7 7700k. It's power consumption is ~100W. GPU is ~250W. Motherboard, SSD, cooler and RAM should be way under 100W.
So the sum is 450W. It's 150W less than 600W.
So why your estimate is 600w?

Damn, i saw on the videocardz post, that the MSI Lightning TI will have : Power Connectors : 1 × 6-pin, 2 × 8-pin

That was what the K|ngp|n 980ti had. Its not uncommon. The card is meant for Liquid Nitrogen overclocking for a reason. Thats why air users should never waste their money on them.

Oh ok , thx for the info ( i'm still new on pc and never see that aha !

Ok, that makes more sense ;-)

The extra 8 pin is supposed to help provide a lot more voltage and stability when pumping crazy high clocks for record breaking benchmarking. For air, it is 100% unnecessary. Anyone that tells you it is, is honestly incorrect. Two 8pins will do more than necessary on air.

This was the 980ti KPE:

It was great for ln2 and extremely overpriced for air. Air users will always always always try to justify buying it, even though it is unnecessary.

so what you sayin is a 6+8 pin wont deliver enough volt to get a good OC on watercooling ?

i plan to WC the 1080 ti, and i read than for a WC the FE card are the best, easy to find a waterblock, and no previous oc or useless foul language removed.

thanks

Anyone any idea on the dimensions?

Seen a few sites saying it has 3x100mm fans, which obviously means it is >300mm in length

Stats on the EVGA website here put it much smaller:

At 266.7mm

Link also suggests it is 6 + 8 pin

Possibly just copied the FE specs and not changed? Sadly can't fit anything bigger than 270mm in my case...

So can only upgrade to the founders edt ti?
Sweet, just 'stepped' up to it bc it's now available on the Step Up program. Well for the 1080 SC at least.
Only gonna cost me 100$ after I leave the SU queue ^.^

Since nobody has any clue when the FTW3 is coming out or how much it will be, I'll just say that it's pretty damn cool of EVGA to offer a step up program to its customers for only $100. Good on you EVGA.

First, dont post vulgar language. Your post was edited.

Second... where did I ever mention anything wrong with 6+8 pin not being enough? 6+8 will provide plenty voltage on air and water.

8+8 provides a good bit more voltage, but isnt always necessary, especially with the nvidia bios having maximum voltages anyway.

6+8+8 on air and water is worthless and unnecessary.

I hope EVGA can surprise us with cards being ready right away, but it is not looking good from what reviewers are saying.  I need more Folding @ Home  power.

There is allegedly a significant shortage of cards, so prepare to missing a 90 day deadline even from now on, probably most won't be able to buy even FE cards until may.

Yes, as I expected.

1. Taichi z370. i7 8086k @ 5,2GHz Stable.
16GB G.Skill Trident Z @ 3,000MHz.

Stock today was quite a bit better than with the 1080 and least from what I saw. And as for missing a 90 day deadline, if you are talking about the step-up then you can already get into the queue for the 1080ti fe. It doesn't matter how long your are in the queue, it only matters that you get in before your 90 days are up. You could join with one day left and you will still get your step-up.

Yeah, many people that entered step up yesterday, were approved yesterday. Nvidia actually planned this one out. I suspect that was because the Titan XP has been out for 6 months, and the founder is nearly the same with one less memory module and faster memory chips.

I cannot wait to see how it performs with crunching. I am even thinking of trying Folding with it.

hehe..i know i'm getting a second card just because I fold and do computing.  I don't play many games where SLI is a benefit so a single 1080ti should be more than enough to keep 60-100fps on 1440 with all my games.  In the meantime...I personally dont mind waiting since It'll take time for someone to develop water blocks for the FTW (unless the HC comes out around the same time).   And i'm still not sure whats causing all my BSOD errors....and don't want to rma something unless i can isolate its cause.

Do we have any estimates for how much more performance to expect out of the FTW3 cooler than the SC2 cooler? I really am not a fan of the GPUs with over sized PCB's, but if the cooler performed well enough over the SC2, I'd consider getting a FTW3. How much better are we talking in EVGA's testing? A 25% increase in wattage dissipation for a given delta T? 30%? Has this information been discussed by EVGA at all in this thread or anywhere else?

Well that isn't good. If it's not ready for basic thermal dynamic testing then it is a long ways from store shelves and they must not even have functional prototypes of the coolers yet.

The good news is you and I both know that isn't true.
