Within the last few weeks, I acquired an EVGA 1070 FTW. For various reasons, I decided to step up to an EVGA 1080 FTW - and before returning the 1070, I decided to benchmark them with PCMark to see how they compare. I ran both on the same system, under the same process, and with both cards using factory settings - no tweaking whatsoever. To my great surprise, the 1080 did not blow the 1070 out of the water. Rather, the 1080 scored slightly lower. Very disappointing results for a card that literally costs 55% more! ($680 v. $440) As you can see from the attached benchmarks, the key differentiator is the memory clock: 2GHz for the 1070, but only 1.2GHz for the 1080. I can't tell from EVGA's website what the memory clock is supposed to be for each of these cards. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on here? Do I have a defective 1080 - or one that EVGA didn't properly overclock as the FTW badge suggests?

1070 memory clock should be 8GHz not 2GHz. 1080 memory clock should be 10GHz not 1.2GHz. Put spaces in your like for it to show up on the forums.

Resolution: 1280x720. Nice cpu bottleneck comparison.

Too light load for gfx cards? Use 3d mark for gfx tests.

Run firestrike 1.1 (not extreme) on your 1080 ..you should be seeing a graphics score of around 23,000 bud. A physics score around 12,000 with that cpu.

If you're on Steam, download the FireStrike benchmark through this link. If you're not on Steam, then get on Steam. Another test people like to run is the Heaven benchmark from Unigine. Through the same program that you run FireStrike through you can also run Time Spy, which is popular right now. You'll find that your 1080 handily outperforms the 1070 once you give it a real test. As Sajin said, the tests you ran were trivial for both cards, so you wouldn't expect the differences in cards to stand out.
