Hello guys!

I got my case yesterday and sadly it has quality problems.
There are uneven gaps between the metal and the plastic parts, at the top left side of the case there is no gap at all and on the right side there is a 2-3mm gap,
the left side door where the two exhaust fans are does not close perfectly, and there is a 4mm gap at the bottom, but only a 1,5mm gap at the top.
The front door is bent and wobbly.

I'm not ready to move my parts inside the case yet, so I don't know if there are going to be more "surprises", but for an expensive case like this, I expected more.

man, the ocd posts on this case continue to get more and more nit-picky. putting a tape measure to the metal back panel that should be against a wall and never been seen. whats next, someone puts too much lighting inside their case and complain that they can see through the mirror front panel into the case? (this is real btw, you can really do this.)

Well, the gaps are not that big of a problem, it's not nice, but I can accept it. The front door is another matter...

How common is this, do other people that own this case notice the same kind of gaps?

When people pay over $200 for a case, they have every right to nit-picky about it.  That is why people like real world reviews, people will actually mention stuff professional reviews won't tell you about.

My back panel needs a little force to be pressed into place, but I don't find it to be a big deal.  My case doesn't have any of the other gaps.

the led strip is powered via a sata cable in the back of the case where the molex power is to power the controler.

Ya, my case as well has gaps which is a bummer. You would think with a premium price you would get premium parts.

How is the front door? I fixed the youtube video link in the opening post. I will have to apply some kind of glued foam to the door to make it not vibrate when a plane is passing by.

I would reach out to EVGA, see if they have replacement parts for the case (for free including shipping). I know Corsair has replacement parts to ship out to customers (100% free including shipping).

I would update this post to let others know if evga has replacement parts ready and if you had to pay anything to receive the replacement part (including shipping).  I think current and future customers would be interested in knowing that information too.

The fit and finish on my DG87 is darn near perfect ... gaps are equal all round inc. both left and right doors,
very happy.

Re: EVGA DG-87 Questionable Build Quality 2016/09/10 14:06:29 (permalink)
Overall very happy with my DG-87 but here's my two cents:

While the chassis is very solid the outer plastic feels cheap and you have to be careful how you lift it.
The perspex glass became a dust magnet when I peeled the protecting film off so I use wet screen wipes to lightly wipe it and instantly noticed scratches all over. It just seem to scratch very easy...
My EVGA front plate has a few pin holes in the layers so when the LED strip is on I can see those pin holes. This can be quite annoying if you are a perfectionist but this is more a QC issues not design, I don't really mind, QC will only get you so far.
The main HDD caddies could have really been plastic and clip in type, I do like the tray system though. It's really just weight saving thing.
Now this one I really don't get, if this case is designed to be: Right=Front, Left=Back, then why is the Back door made out of metal that weights a ton? Seriously that door so incredibly heavy, if the Front door is wobbly and thin why couldn't the Back door be slimmed down too? I'd welcome a plastic door myself.
Getting the top intake filter (not really) off it really tought, you have to yank it up or whack it from underneaths to unclip it...I really don't enjoy doing that, why couldn't the click-in system be used here too?

But it's my components new home for the next few years so I will have to learn to live with some of these issues.

Still think the case is really cool and unusual with a ton of space and features, I was after a case like this for a while.

You paid good money for the case. If the QC issues bother you, request replacement parts.

Guess they made the back panel so thick, to make the case more rigged.

I have contacted EVGA and they sent me a new case trough RMA, the shipping was free, I did not have to pay for it.
The new case arrived in less than 3 days and it has little to no gaps, the front door is good too.
I'm very happy with their customer service.
