I'm having problems achieving stable 4096 x 2160 at 60hz on my LG-31MU97-B 31" Cinema 4K Monitor. I only get the resolution to work @ 30hz. At 60hz setting, I constantly get noise artifacts, distortion flickers and blackouts.

I'm using a Lenovo DisplayPort cable that's rated at 21.6 Gbps of bandwidth.

1. Is it a driver (Nvidia or LG) issue ?
1. Is it a hardware (EVGA or LG) issue?

I'm at a loss here. I've invested too much $ into this system for less than optimal disaplay performance.

Please Help!

My rig:

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N
Intel 6 core i7 X990 3.47GHz
24 GB RAM
Windows 8.1 Pro
Samsung EVO 1TB SSD
1000W EVGA Supernova 1000P2 80+ Platinum power supply

What cable are you using to connect the graphics card to the monitor? What length? Are you using any adapters?

Due to the higher bandwidth of your resolution, your setup will be more sensitive to the length and quality of cable.

    You must use displayport
And must switch the monitor in his menu to dp.1.2 if possible

    I'm not using any adapters.

I'm using the Lenovo Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort 6' Cable rated at 21.6 Gbps. Part #: 0B47091
It is the only direct Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable that I found with the required specs confirmed.

I'll keep researching other cable options. I welcome any recommendations.

DisplayPort is in use and 1.2 is enabled on the monitor.

    Problem Solved:

    After trying several DisplayPort cable brands and getting less than satisfactory results;
    The StartTech MDP2DPMM6 6 ft. Mini-DisplayPort™ to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable I recently acquired, supports  4096 x 2160 at 60hz flawlessly. Persistence Paid off ...

So, as Uberpancakes stated: Due to the higher bandwidth of my resolution (regardless of a Premium GPU), my setup is more sensitive to the length and quality of display cable.

    My rig:

    24 GB RAM
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    Samsung EVO 1TB SSD
1000W EVGA Supernova 1000P2 80+ Platinum power supply
