Using my noodle to think up of a way to build my own mining case.

I found some 3/4 in. x 36 in. Aluminum Angle Bar that is only 1/16th in. thick.  Should be perfect for a build.  Rivet that together and you can have a pretty decent open air case.

Hey direraptor22,

Were you able to get the blueprints for the mining case?

Yep, coming right up... got some copying and pasting to do. Gimme a few seconds

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy those tall pieces of aluminum angle rods. Get the 1/2" and 3/4" wide ones. Cut them to the dimensions I'm about to give you!

Now cut the following... quantity/length/rod width:

1 x 9.5" long 1/2" wide
3 x 10.75" long 1/2" wide
8 x 11" long 3/4" wide
4 x 22" long 3/4" wide
2 x 21.75" long 3/4" wide
1 x 9.375" long 1/2" wide
1 x 7.125" long 1/2" wide

Now, the 22" and 11" make up the top and bottom of the case, aka the rectangle. The other 4 x 11" ones are the 4 vertical outer pillars. The rest is a little harder to explain, but here are some progress pics:

11" and 22" top and bottom rectangles

Top and bottom joined by the 4 x 11" pillars

10.75" horizontal supports around the middle (third one is for the PSU support as you'll see in the next pic)

Here's the completed case

Basically, the two PSUs sit on top of each other on the left side of the case in the picture, and mobo is mounted to the bottom on a piece of thin MDF riveted into the case. The 2 x 21.75" rods are for the GPU support. One higher up to support the bracket, and the other lower on the other side to support the other side. I just zip tied them into place.

Just so you get the idea etc. sorry it's not extremely detailed, it's much easier to explain in person than post in a forum. Hopefully you get the idea! Any questions I'll try my best to answer as well!

Looking forward to the first person replicating that design and working out well for them. Feel free to add any suggestions or design recommendations!

So I got all the pieces for the mining case.  Cost came to $41.81 in materials including the rivets.

Had to sub out some of the pieces as they didn't have them in stock. I was speaking with the dept mgr who did know quite a bit so I trusted his judgement.  I gave him the dimensions and showed him the pic of what I was building.  He immediately pulled out the measuring tape and got to work.  I still need to make the cuts needed but I  he was impressed with the design in what we are using it for.

What I got:

2x $4.27: 36"X3/4"X1/2"X1/16" THICK ALUMINUM ANGLE

and

7x $3.97: 36"X3/4"X1/16" THICK ALUMINUM ANGLE

True.  This one we can use it to share ideas and other cases we find.  Use the other for a true DIY/Build thread.

Should I change the title of this thread?

I use the USB 3.0 risers. Work better than the regular powered risers.

here is my idea i came up with (used another gpu model just for)
3 on the back of 3 fans at the bottom of my 900D holding 5X 750 Ti's leaving my 780 ti up top for use (short cards fit lol with room for fans on both sides)
i have 6 750 ti SC's on hand as of today
this simple idea uses 1/2"X1/2" C-channel and 1/2" strip from home depot all cut to 120mm
simple idea parts list
2X 120mm long 0.5x0.5 C-channel
1x 120mm long 1/2"x1/16
3x 1/8th ID washers 2~2.5mm thick (1.5 for a tight fit)
3x 1/8 x 3/8 long rivets
4X self tapping fan screws
2X case / thumb screws (if you use tap)

tools needed to make right
6-32 tap and matching drill bit
1/8, 1/4, 3/8 drill bits
something that cuts clean
will post drawings if requested
will post photos tomorrow when i build them 2 am time for bed.
at least i got a free 30 sec foot massage tonight.. lol got to love socal 1 little earthquake and all the earthquacks come out

Got all my measurements and cuts done.  I was short 2 x 21.75" long 3/4" wide pieces.  Heading to home depot now to get them.

Also I'm going to sacrifice my old Thermaltake Lanfire case.  It's had a long 10yr life span and many different builds done with it.  I'll be using the motherboard tray and whatever else I can make use of.
