So I had issues with tracker the other day, so I decided to remove any and all folding clients on my rig.
I have the new drivers, OS is Vista Ultimate.
I got tracker set up but I cant get the two bottom cards to run. I extended my desktop (with and without dummy plugs) and still can't get the bottom cards to work.
I used to have to trick the computer and pull the dummy plugs out before extending. This didn't work. I've never been able to get this PC to fold without plugs, even with the new drivers.
Here are some screen shots. Maybe I messed up during config.

Oh forgot I auto detected and this is what I got. I'm using the 260.99 drivers not these...

When you updated drivers, did you use DriverSweeper and do a Clean install? It looks like there is something being left behind by an old driver and may be causing all of your problems.

Yes I did use driver sweeper in safe mode. Then reinstalled the new drivers on one card then put the two others in.

I have never used the auto detect but I might try installing the driver with all cards in and see what happens.

    Question:
If you go in to device manager and check the properties of the cards, what does it show there as far as driver version?

Why not just install the new driver will all the cards installed? The reason the Tracker is showing an old driver is because the cards you are adding back in later are still running the old driver.

I couldn't get the 260.99 drivers to install with all 3 cards. Just got a black screen after reboot.
Still doesn't explain why I can extend the desktop to the other cards.

You're not the only one having issues.  Sometime early this morning my client.cfg for GPU0 just reset itself and ever since my GPU 0 client has been starting/stopping itself all day.  Every time it restarted,  it made a new log file and didn't send any results.  Probably cost me over 5-6k in the last few hours.

So I reinstalled the drivers using driver sweeper AGAIN The device mgr says they are 8.17.12.6009 I don't know if thats the 260.99 drivers or not.
Tracker would not start the second and third client.
So I tried a dummy plug to extend the desktop, thats didn't extend.
When I pulled the dummy plug out the screen flashed so I tried to extend the desktop and it worked. I did this for both cards, now tracker started them up.

The problem is really quite simple.  You my friend have Gremlins!  Yes, Gremlins.  The only way to get rid of them is to turn off your computer and unplug it then make sure your cards are properly seated.  My .02.

It sounds like Murphy's having a field day at your house.  Try plugging the dummy plugs and restart the rig with them in and then start the clients with the dummy plugs still attached.  If they all start, then remove them afterwards.  When I first setup my 450's, I couldn't extend the desktop unless I restarted the rig with them attached.  Once the all the gpu clients started running, then I could unplug them.

Try setting up folding without using the tracker for the gpus and set them up manually to see if they fold?
Are the new drivers installing the HD audio drivers? Check the custom selection and see if there is an option to not install those.

I was having issues with installing the newest drivers and would get the black screen just as you did. I did a custom install and unchecked the HD audio drivers and was able to install the drivers all the way and not have any issues after that.
Have you tried to manually install the gpu client and get them folding?

    +1 dubzhouse!
I had the same issue with my asus board (which I just replaced with an X58). I could get one 450 to run but not the other, no matter what I did. I solved it by not installing the nvidia audio drivers part of the 260.99. You just need to uncheck the box during the setup.
I posted about this in another of our threads but could not find it again, but that's what worked for me.

When I install the drivers after DS and not check the HDA box, it still finds a way to install the bloody drivers. They're now disabled in the DM but can't get the 470 to run in the 1st slot.

Can't say I know specifically, but a lot of people have been having issues with the HDAudio drivers, especially as related to the 200 series cards.  I have always had to use the dummy plug method until did a "clean" install on both rigs with the new drivers (one vista ultimate, one Win7 Pro) and then used the autodetect feature.  After that no more dummy plugs.  On the Fermi machine I let the HD audio drivers install, but I think they're slowing down my second card which is a 275.  On the Vista machine I didn't allow them to install.

Good Luck, but it still sounds like Gremlins.

    Problems continue.....
I was checking my stats and tracker just froze up on me, I had to go into task manager to get out.
Now the clients are finishing with the oneunit flag that not really on.
I may go back to console if this crap continues.

Okay please take a look at task mgr and process lasso. It looks as if tracker is starting multiple clients. Same with the CPU but I shut it down before I took this screen shot. Why is tracker trying to start them twice?

Are you getting more than 1 logfile per client in each client folder within the main Tracker folder?  I see you are also getting teh "closed unexpectedly" error like I was most of the day yesterday.  Not sure what was causing that as everything ran fine for a long time and then that came out of nowhere.

Thanks for the link, I spent over an hour following the instructions. Nope, didn't work. I also reinstalled the drivers with the dummy plugs in and that didnt work. The only way to get them folding is to put a dummy plug in while I'm in display properties pull it out then extend the desk top. This is stupid!!

I wonder if we are missing anything from Windows Vista in the Tracker but that would be extremely odd because of the tremendous similarities of Vista and 7. But there seem to be issues with XP and the Tracker. Both me and jedi use win7 on our computers and have had no problems. with the newer drivers you shouldnt have to use the dummy plugs to fold on the cards this is the biggest thing racking my mind.

Have you tried it without extending the desktop? I am using the systray client and just put the flags and all four of my cards are folding. I have 2 260's, 8800gt, and a 460. Not one problem with systray.
I would just use the systray client and see what that does.

Tank, the -oneunit flag is normal with the tracker.  It automatically restarts after each WU.  On my Vista (U32) machine I have not extended the desktop and I'm running a 250 and 275 there without issue.  I'm going to add a 470 later today, I'll let you know if I see anything, but I'm at a loss why you're encountering these issues.
