Choppy gameplay with GTX 970 SSC

Hey all. I am new here and need some help with my system. I upgraded from a Asus GTX 760 to an EVGA GTX 970 SSC and am now having problems with playing games. Where I could get 60 fps with my 760, I am getting 20-30 fps with the 970. Is this a driver issue or something that I can easily fix?
 
My build:
Mobo- ASRock Z97 Extreme 4
CPU- Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40 GHZ
RAM- Corsair 16GB 2133
GPU- EVGA GTX 970 SSC
OS- Windows 7 64-bit
 
If anyone could help me to stabilize my fps, I would appreciate it greatly.

    It doesn't make a lot of since... Maybe you set your settings higher than what you set your settings for on your other card...

    Maybe someone else knows more on the issue.

    No, the settings weren't touched from the other card and that is why it is confusing me. I figured it would run everything nicely and I would slowly up the graphics until I got it the highest it could go.

    This is kind of a silly question, but you did install the drivers from NVIDEAs website right? It's just such strange problem you are having... Maybe you enabled vSync ingame? Maybe you should call EVGA support if you cannot figure it out as they will probably be able to help you quicker. If you do decide to call, make sure you update the BIOS first.

    I used the CD drivers, should I download from the website instead? Also, how do I update the BIOS I am kind of new to the interface side of computers still.

    CDdrivers are old and you can just download the new one from the website. Also, when your there you should download NVIDEA Control Panel and NVIDEA Precision, these will allow you to easily update your drivers and tweak your card.

    Just a petpeeve of mine but it's spelled NVIDIA.

    To the OP, what res are you playing at, what games are you playing?

    Could be that you had a 1:1 ratio with your CPU and 760
    Now that you have a 970 it could more like 1:2 or 1:3, your CPU probably just can't keep up with your 970
    Overclocking could help

    That "ratio" thing sounds a lot like BS to me.
    The CPU may bottleneck the system, producing a lesser gain from the video card upgrade, but there's no way it will make the 970 run -slower- than the 760.

    He contacted EVGA so hopefully he figures it out. Maybe it's just a bad card.

    Bottlenecking is when one component holds back another whether it be the CPU, GPU, RAM, or something. In this case the CPU is holding back the card but as to why, I nor anyone else since he hasn't replied to his thread as to the games he play and at what resolution.

    Not sure which game you are talking about, but some of them will notice a change in system hardware and change settings without you knowing.

    Can I say I am having exactly the same problem I5 4670k  O/C to 4.ghz and have a drop in performance . Spent two days and cannot figure it out .

    Novateck 500w modular v2 good 12v have put old card in and put new back seeing some improvement
