Hello All, I have a new 3090 Kingpin and I Have noticed that there seems to be an electrical buzzing sound coming from the card. I have read the threads about pump noise and I don't think that this is from the pump, it sounds like a buzzing transformer, if I had to try and describe it. I got two recordings of the noise here: Buzzing Noise Clip 1Buzzing Noise Clip 2 It doesn't seem to be tied to the load the GPU is under. the buzz happens about every 10-20 seconds I'm not sure what to do. I plan on replacing the hybrid cooler with a waterblock eventually, but I will probably be running this setup for at least a few months. If it's not the pump, then, for me that indicates an electrical problem that isn't going to be solved by putting a waterblock on it. Thanks for your thoughts. -Jason

What’s your PSU? Almost sounds like a fan issue but that’s not likely. Have you tried the magnet trick?

I'm running a Corsair 1000W RMi. I saw the magnet trick mentioned, but haven't seen what it actually is.

kraade IS the fan spinning?
In those two clips, the computer was at idle and the fan was not spinning.

I recently replaced my PSU that was buzzing after i got a 3090. I initially thought it was GPU coil whine, but once I put my ear closer to the bottom, closer to the PSU mesh, it was much louder. I got a bigger one to replace my 850G2 with a 1000G6 and its much quieter. The 3090 is so power hungry it, this new PSU does hiss a little when gaming, but its nothing near my previous one, literally crying out loud screaming to stop.

Never heard such weird noise before. If I were you I would open a ticket with EVGA and get their opinion.

That is what I a leaning to right now. I have an open air chassis so the buzzing is definitely noticeable. I'll see if I can move the radiator around a bit to see if that helps. I'd rather not have to RMA, but we'll see. I'll see if I can get more clips of the sound. -J

I doubt that moving radiator around will help at all, that noise sounds electrical to my ear. How it sounds when card is under full load (say under TimeSpy Extreme stress test)?

Yeah, it is the card. I was running a FTW3 card before I got my KP and the rig was silent, except for some minor coil whine at very high frame rate. ZoranC

The noise seems pretty consistent, I'll see if I can capture it under load. On for a few seconds then off for about 10 seconds or so. -J

Are you absolutely sure it isn't the water pump? That sounds a lot like mine was on my KPE3090 that came and went every 10-20 seconds till I used magnets and tapping to get get it straightened out and then it went away. I also moved my rad from the front up top too during the process. To verify you could disconnect the pump power header from the card and boot and see if the sound appears during idle usage since you indicated it happens whether under load or not. You can also use the old sound isolating trick and use an empty paper towel holder placed on your ear and look around to get a general idea of where the sound is emitting.

Just a thought, but your radiator ports are mounted above the pump/card? Doubt it's your issue, but couldn't hurt to see.

Is your pump plugged into a fan header with smart fan enabled? It comes on and off at random it seems.

The pump on the Hybrid card is in its stock configuration. So it is running off the the GPU. The system is at idle. When underload I get the same types of sounds, and doesn't seem to be tied to the pump? But it is coming from that area of the card. Still scratching my head at this one.

I'm probably going to stop buying EVGA PSUs. They've seriously gone downhill in the QA department or something. I recently bought a P+ 1300W back in November and it had insane buzzing that could make you go deaf after a while. RMA'd and got one that didn't seem to have buzzing at first, but I did notice there was some buzzing a couple weeks after installation. RMA'd that one and the 3rd one has some slight buzzing as well, but it's not nearly as bad as the 1st and still better than the 2nd. Debating on RMAing this again or keeping it, but it's such a pain to have to go through 3 "premium" power supplies. I have a G3 1000W one that I replaced that was quiet as a mouse at full bore, but it's in my daughter's computer now, so I can't really switch back. Just tired of all the QA/build quality issues.

I sent tech support an email today, we'll see what they say. Say if it's not an electrical issue with the card then I don't have a problem keeping it. But if I can't definitively tell me it's the pump then I guess I'll start an RMA. I don't know.

If you put the rad above the card, does the same noise happen? You will need to leave it above the card for a little while as it will take time to work any air in the pump out. Also, is the card mounted straight up and down? I’ve had the card being at a weird angle cause massive pump noise similar to what you got there.

I don't buy it. People keep throwing words like "power hungry" and nop. That a cope, and not the problem. The problem lies in the psu or the gpu and not in the amount of power, but the quality of components. Power has nothing to do with it. Its ether a crappy gpu or a crappy psu. Sometimes its a crappy motherboard and that will give out a hissss as well. Because you still hear a little his this points to it being something else that is causing the problem and not the psu. Coil whine/ interference whine is preventable 100% if a company is not ass, shame on them. This should not be acceptable at all in the industry.

Try your psu in another motherboard or with a different gpu. Sometimes the motherboard can cause the buzzing.

How would that make sense if the G3 1000W didn't have any buzzing and each 3 different P+ power supplies have different buzzing sounds on this same mobo/gpu combo? The buzzing was also coming from the PSU, NOT the mobo. They are in quite different areas so it's easy to pinpoint.

I also had the same problem with the exact same psu that I just RMA'd, and was a little bit scared to hear loud coil whine upon starting the pc up but then it went away. I do have very minimal coil whine on full load but I'm afraid it might happen again in the future. I should've done more research first but my last 3 evga psu are still quiet but they were made by a different manufacturer that are then supplied to evga. Each letter/ number usually tells you who the manufacturer are like superflower, hec? and a few others. Superflower did not make the P+ 1300W psu and are generally very reliable.

Almost sounds like possibly a wire against a fan but I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of air in the pump that could cause that sound.

It could definitely be the psu. I don't know how, but I had a motherboard cause buzzing.

Just heard back from EVGA, they have started the RMA process for me. I sent them the audio and video clips in this thread. In my email I didn't specifically ask for an RMA, just for their thoughts. I guess I have their thoughts on it. Well, I am always a little nervous on the RMA process, but I do appreciate EVGA and their customer service. So I guess I'll be without my GPU for a few weeks. ugh... Fingers crossed I don't get a dud. Thank you all here for your responses. We have a pretty good group. -J

my KP buzzes the loudest during benchmarking in PR. I suspect it is coilwhine from rays gettin traced. otherwise, it is nearly silent I had a hybrid KPE where the pump died and it made some nasty sounds shortly before hand but certainly not as bad as yours at a random idle interval
