Unclear what started this but OS (Win 7, 64b) became less responsive with freezing- a subsequent reboot led to freezing during boot with "Marvell 88SE91xx Adapter BIOS XXXXXXX  Initializing.............."

I can't get into BIOS to disable Marvell SATA III.

I have tried the following without success:
1. Removed boot SSD drive from SATA III and connected to SATA II slot.
2. Cleared CMOS

Appreciate any help.

You have 3 bios available, try switching to one of the other bios and see if it will boot that way-good luck

It should timeout eventually.  Short of that someone or EVGA can set a removable flash chip to disabled for the Marvell Raid but what would be the point?  If that chip (Marvell) is bad the boards gotta go back no? ... Give EVGA a look at it.  Joe

boot on another bios , and when you setup is running in windows, flash other bios again, so it's good again.

When mine freezes, I just go into the BIOS setup menu and exit. I don't do anything, but for some reason, when I do this, it finally detects the drive and boots normally.

Just for the sake of clarity : Do you save or do you discard without saving from BIOS?  Piligrim

I do hit F10 to save on exit. But I don't make any changes what-so-ever. I just go into the Motherboard Bios, Press F10, then yes and done. It boots fine afterwards. It's wierd. I think it's a motherboard<->marvell chipset issue.

I had the exact same issue. I tried and tried to get Marvell to pay nice with my Raptors but I ended up ditching the sata3 ports and moving everything to the intel ports.

It WILL timeout after like 1-2 min but it did seem to help if i would hold the power button down to just kill.. wait 5 seconds and start it up again.

I have a support ticket in on both the SATA3 and Marvell network controller.. I've been way to busy with a project to format my machine..

Note about the intel ports.. i was also having what felt like lag in windows, like opening files and folders. After updating to SP1 I havn't noticed it since. Unless I just got used to it.

The Marvell controller is completely bogus. It wouldn't boot up if i plug in an IDE cdrom.
EVGA needs to ditch this controller, issue a recall like Intel did and sue Marvell for the losses.

just bought this board and im having a similar issue. only thing is that i cant even access the bios. tried switching to the bios but no good....tried clearing cmos....still no good. Was working fine and then i re installed my gpu drivers and restarted windows....and from there on...its stuck on the marvel driver initialization screen. Would really appreciate if i can get some help on this. Using OCZ vertex 120GB SSD and plugged in the sata ii port.

I had this problem but I think I just fixed it.
    My setup:
    - Asus Maximus 4 Extreme-z. Running the Bios from the included disk (can't remember the version number)
    - OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (Plugged into a Marvell(red) SATA 3)
    - Under device manager the Marvell controller has a black and yellow "!" (Under storage controllers)

50% of the time it freezes at the 'Marvell Adaptor. Initialising...' but sometimes it carries on through saying cannot find storage device but seems to boot in to windows anyways. Other times the pc will run for a few hours then freeze randomly.

So I went to the Asus site for my board:
Downloaded the driver for the Marvell adaptor (Marvell SATA 6G AHCI Driver V1.0.0.1051 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit 7.(WHQL)) under SATA. Installed it, the device manager doesn't have the "!" any more and each time I reboot I don't get the 'Marvell Adaptor. Initialising...' bit, just carries onto windows like normal. So hopefully this has sorted it... we shall see (been 3 reboots now and about an hour)

Saying that its cropped up again, ill have to try something else, a few posts have said change the boot drive sata to the one closest to the board. So sata6g_1 and sata6g_2, '_1' is next to the pcd and  not at the top.
