Please note that this is a Beta BIOS, but it is stable enough for those of you who wish to test to give it a shot.  We expect it to be official next week.
BIOS is now official.

BIOS 1.11 (Z790 DARK K|NGP|N) / BIOS 1.08 (Z790 Classified)

  • Updates CPU microcode to 112.
  • Fixes issue where BIOS will sometimes hang on 92/A2 POST Code.
  • Adds 8533 OC profile. (DARK K|NGP|N Only)
  • Improves memory stability. (Classified Only)
  • Adds 7600 OC profile.  (Classified Only)

Windows Installation
  • Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
         121-AL-E799-KR - EVGA Z790 DARK K|NGP|N - v1.11
         121-AL-E798-KR - EVGA Z790 CLASSIFIED - v1.08
  • First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Close all open programs.
  • Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and double-click update.bat
  • Press Y to start the flash process
  • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
  • After the flash is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Power on the system again and go into BIOS and adjust settings as needed.
  • NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be run from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.

BIOS Installation within BIOS

  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
  • From the BIOS, navigate to the EXTRAS tab at the upper left and click on "BIOS Update"
  • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

BIOS Installation Without CPU

  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Rename the file "EVGAE7XX.bin", where XX is the last two digits of the part number (e.g. Z790 DARK K|NGP|N should be EVGAE799.bin)
  • Install the USB flash drive into the USB Type-A port on the motherboard.
  • Make sure to connect the 24pin power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  • Switch on the power supply, if it is not already on.
  • Hold the BIOS Update button on the rear I/O for approximately 2 seconds until the flash begins (the cursor on the POST LED will begin cycling)
  • The BIOS update may take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete.  When done, the board will restart.
  • Complete the rest of your build at this point to confirm a successful flash.

Please let me know if anyone runs into problems with this update.  Thanks!

Also, earlier BIOS files for each board can be found on our Download Center.

Edit:  BIOS upgraded to official as of 2/17/2023.

Easy install and first boot. Installed from 1.10 but didn't try to Carey over settings. Still learning the bios a bit.

same here.  wouldn't take my previous saved bios profile.
I had to do a hot bios install in the OS to recover the bios slot.    You may have to enter your old settings manually, instead of loading a previous bios save.

CMOS Clear also does NOT alleviate the issue...@EVGATech_LeeM this might be worth looking into for the bios team...you are basically bricking bios slots this way - as soon as you load an old profile from 1.10 the Bios slot is done unless you recover Bios via USB with the No-CPU method...not really acceptable

yeah, you have to go into the OS under a different bios and flash that slot by changing it to the bricked bios to get it back.

We do not support using older profiles on an updated BIOS.  This will not change in the near future, if at all.

I recommend to take screenshots of your settings before flashing your BIOS and then manually entering them after the flash.

Thats fine but it might be worth calling out that it literally bricks the Bios...

I guess I got caught doing it from one bios to another, and it worked so far.  I'll do the screen shots from now on.

The QVL page for the Classified says it supports the 13900KS as of 1.07. But if 1.08 is beta and the download center lists 1.05. Will the 13900KS work in the Classified out of the box? Or do I need a lower-end CPU to update to bios 1.08?

I guess you can just update it without a CPU so nevermind.

If an updated BIOS doesn't support an older profile (makes sense why it wouldn't), why doesn't the BIOS update process just delete the old profiles, hide them, or display an error message if you try to load them? It seems the error could be handled better.

It does generally delete the ones saved in the bios. Normally, if you try to save one to a USB drive, then load it into a newer BIOS version it will give an error that it isn't compatible as those only work on the same BIOS version. It sounds like it's actually loading the old file for these folks when it shouldn't.

Has anyone had to update BIOS without cpu as I updated to BIOS 1.11 without cpu as I have a 13900ks, at the end of the process had a post code 1.4 showing.

Was wondering if that post code is normal, before finishing water cool loop.

Well, I'll do it tomorrow and let you know with the Classified. Not sure about code "1.4" but code "14" is "Pre-memory CPU initialization is started" which seems fine to me.

Well pretty much have new build up and running, initially wasn't sure about updating BIOS w/o cpu, it booted right up into BIOS. Showing 1.11, so it worked like a charm.

My last 3 boards have been ASUS, this BIOS seems a little easier to navigate and a little more intuitive.

A bit confused here on what to do, currently trying to update bios on my z790 KP board without CPU. (Purchased pre 13900ks bios update) I constantly keep getting E4 post code when trying to flash the bios. I followed the instructions multiple times and have attempted to use different USB drives. (All have been formatted to FAT32)

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Edit: Does the CPU and both 8 pin EPS need to be installed?

from what i understand, that internal usb port to use for the update is VERY VERY picky on which usb devices its happy with.  Seems like the older the thimb drive is, the better luck youll have in it working.  Here watch this video sir -----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y82KuikmHrA

E4 means that the motherboard can't locate the BIOS file, or the file is named incorrectly.

Make sure that the USB is formatted to FAT32, that it's plugged into the USB Type-A on the motherboard itself, that the .bin file is located in the root of the USB, and that the .bin file is named EVGAE799.bin.

Unfortunately this is what I’ve done every time with 4 different usb drives. List of steps I go through:

    -Format to Fat32
    -Download Bios for Windows 11
    -Extract Zip file
    -Rename .bin file to EVGAE799.bin
    -Move .bin file to usb
    -Eject usb drive
-Install usb drive into usb A header on board labeled “BIOS Update”
-Turn PSU on with only 24 pin connected (no cpu or eps connectors)
-Press and hold bios flash button
-Let go once debug led has finished counting down
    -debug spins in a circle
    -debug changes to E4

I don’t know if I’m skipping or miss understanding a step, but this is exactly my process for every drive I’ve tried and retried for a few hours.

I'll check with the team, but did you try installing the CPU before attempting the BIOS flash? Depending on when the board shipped out, it may already have a newer BIOS version that would support your CPU.

By chance are you moving just the .bin file or the whole BIOS folder to your usb, that maybe your issue. When I did mine after extracting the

zip folder I renamed the .bin file and moved the entire folder over to the usb.

Cpu has not been installed and I purchased it brand new from someone back in early/mid January. So it’s pre 13900ks support for bios.

And I am just moving the .bin file/script into the usb drive, not the entire folder.

My understanding is that 13900KS was supported a bit earlier than our "official" support BIOS.  You might try testing the CPU to see if it works.  The BIOS can still be flashed with/without the CPU installed.

Alright, I’ll have to give it a try once I finish up everything. Hope fully it’s not some weird issue.

Fingers crossed, and thank you for all the help!

Will report back if it works or not.

You can disable the wifi/bluetooth module by disabling the slot it's in, M2 KEY-E.

It can also be removed and changed out if someone isn’t going to use it or wants to upgrade in the future.
